El Diablo
Im late to this party - But Im happy to be here.... Lou has a plan - he knows the CBA - he's got the Devils $$ numbers and he knows who is coming back. I trust in where he's trying to go but a lot depends on others. I like my team more today than yesterday.
devils102
Well we gotta give sportsnet credit here, we always bust on sites that make mistakes, well sportsnet had the story two whole hours before anyone else and it turned out to be correct. bah, just like the Burke to Pittsburgh deal, this one was probably reported before it was a sure thing. I don't dislike sportsnet, but they've reported deals so far in advance of everyone else that I've gotten suspicious. Since they claimed Burke was going to Pittsburgh incorrectly, i've stuck with tsn.

Elias Sports Bureau
Almo! This is very cool! Where is ESB????? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm around sorta, Nieuwy. Hope you are well. I'm more excited than I thought possible. The Devils are my home team. One of my very fave players is back. When Patty comes back, my dream line will be together. I feel like I'm dreaming. And hi PK ... I mean DD!
Nieuwy25
Good to "see" you! The first thing that entered my mind when I saw this was Paige will be sooooo excited! After all the things I had heard about Almo, I was really looking forward to watching him play last year with the Leafs, but he got hurt early on so I still haven't really gotten to see him much. Hopefully, things will go well for him and the Devils this year.

daneyko_booster
When Almo signed with the Leafs Al Strachan said it was because he, like everyone else in the league, hates playing in New Jersey. At that time I said, yeah, and I'm sure he hated winning the cup and playing for it again the next year. Now he's back. I guess he hates Toronto more. Have you still got that massive quote file on Mogilny ESB? Was it you that posted it? Anyhow, I still have a bunch of it, so here it is folks, the witticisms of Alexander Mogilny: On his nomination: "Lady Byng is more of a consolation prize. I don't need it." On forcing Game 7 against the Senators: "We had to go back to Toronto, so we thought we'd take them with us. The monkey went back to the zoo, I guess," he said about scoring the game winner, his first goal of the series. Reporter: "Alex, what do say to all the fans parading up and down Yonge Street after your Game 7 win?'" Almo: "Get a life." On getting knocked out: "I wasn't sure what was going on. I tried to open my eyes a couple of times and I got really out there. Then I kept them closed. I saw a lot of good things when they were closed." On Domi saying he gets concussed a lot: "I'm not used to getting hit in the head like Tie. Sometimes hits like that hurt." On Nik Antropov's quick recovery from a broken bone: "He grew up near a nuclear power plant. That must be it. I think maybe he has an extra bone in there, too,'' Mogilny said. Interviewer: ''Alex, you've gone several games without having a goal but you have four assists during that stretch. The team is also winning. Is this a good thing?'' Mogilny: ''Gee Paul, last time I checked winning was a good thing.'' On the difficulty of moving Antropov from the front of the net: "He's 7 feet tall and 400 pounds!" On reaching milestones: "They're just an indication of how long I've been around and what an old man I've become." "In the end, nothing, not even records, can equate to winning the Stanley Cup (with New Jersey in 2000). That was the best, especially when you go through all the bumps and bruises to get to the top of the hockey world. I cherish that. "Heck, I never dreamed my career would get to this point. It has been wonderful, a real blast." Can he play center? "Maybe 10 years ago, yes, but not anymore. I'm slowing down." On sports stardom: "I'm not a star athlete. You say I'm a star athlete. I'm not anything big or special. I'm a hockey player. That's what I was from the beginning, a hockey player, even when I was playing for nothing." Any problems during practice? "Before they turned the lights on, it was a little difficult." On his foot injury: "Oh, that's OK, but my pelvis is out of whack!" On talking about injuries: "To me. It's not anyone's business how my head feels or how my stomach feels or if my little finger is okay." Is Tomas Kaberle cocky?: "He wears khakis?" On the face shield: "I can wear it one day, then not wear it the next day. It's like a pair of glasses, some days I wear it, some days I don't. I'm not wearing any underwear either. There is no reason." "Since my kids were born, I put on a shield. I wanted to keep on seeing them." What about a mouthguard?: "No reason. Trying to get rid of these teeth." On drinking Gary Roberts' protein shakes: "I don't know what's in them and I don't want to know," said Mogilny, "All I know is I don't want to be 40 years old and be growing a second head." On struggling early in the season: "There's a lot of hockey left to play. But the way we're playing right now, we'll be out of it shortly.'' On a postseason series win: "I don't understand what the fuss is all about. There is a bigger hurdle coming up. The last time I checked, you have to win four series." About the All-Star Game: "The first couple were exciting. After that, it was a waste of time." What's the most difficult thing to do on the ice: "Everything's hard. The guys are bigger and stronger now. It's fast. It's hard. Nothing comes easy. Something may look easy, but it's not." On playing pro hockey:: "It might be hard for someone who's not a hockey player to understand how good it is. We're together doing what we love. Of course, now we're well paid for it, too. It's the best job in the world." On deciding not to play at the Olympics: "I'm not good enough anymore anyway." Regarding Santa Claus, who was nothing more than a mysterious legend to kids who grew up in the old communist system: "Does he live in the north? I don't know where the hell he lives, really. They never told us. Maybe he's in one of those government project buildings. But he comes from somewhere." What are you gonna do for Christmas break: "Get pissed." Christmas memories: "In Russia I didn't know better about Christmas (presents). New Year's was the bigger celebration and I was happy just to get a nice orange." "You put presents under the tree and hopefully, by the time you (sober) up the next evening, something is still there," Mogilny said. On a blocked shot: "Hey... I was trying to get out of the way." On scoring: "People can say whatever they want to say. I've scored 76 and 55 goals, but I've always been a 30-goal scorer. I had two great years, and everybody thinks I'm going to score 55 to 60 every time. It is not that way. Maybe I raised the bar too much for me." "I can't score all the time. It was not long ago that critics would say I had a bad year if I scored 30 goads. Lots of guys would love to score 30 goals a season. Me, they'd say I was in a slump." "Who cares if you score 60, when you can score 30 and do what you always dream." On getting traded: "I'm a big boy. ... It's just a change of everything. The color of the uniforms, everything, the traditions. On a possible trade: "I'm not in a management position. I don't make decisions and I know it's not easy to make trades. But if it doesn't change I hope when they make a trade it's me." On holdout Pavel Bure: "It's his decision not to come and if the guy doesn't want to make $8 million, that's his choice. I wouldn't do it but Pavel can because he knows he can probably get it somewhere else. "I've got enough to worry about--kids, a wife, dogs -- so I can't worry about Pavel." On a ref giving him the gate after he yelled at them: "He didn't have to throw me out. He hears those words all the time." On a legal goal not being allowed: "It's not like it was my 100th or something."

Darwindog
Hi ESB!!! I thought of you too! You know that whole list of comments... I forgot --it just brought me down... sure it's funny but you know it's too close to serious... it just seems so negative... But I do think he never wanted to leave NJ -- I think his signing with the Leafs is just like his comments...You know that whole well jeez Lou never contacted me. I mean that's SAD if a person really feels that way..and see I think he DOES. I think he's just negative even if he puts a humorous spin on it.. but I may be wrong... I like him I do... OH I'm glad he's back .. I AM... but I just - it's just exhausting to a part of me. Combatting negative "humor" is just a freaking drain. At that time I said, yeah, and I'm sure he hated winning the cup and playing for it again the next year. Now he's back. I guess he hates Toronto more. That's just Trashcan being Trashcan. Almo left because he wanted more money than Lou was offering. If I remember the story correctly, the Leafs were willing to give him slightly more than the Devils were, but that small difference was enough to seal the deal. Almo even went to Lou and said he'd come back if Lou would match Toronto's offer, but Lou told him to take the money and run. Did I get that right? Darwindog
I thought he was another Lou never got back to me.. but you're probably right -- it was a Lou wouldn't negotiate. He probably would have taken some ass kissing but the guy is Mister Reality -- he says I'll come back for more money you say Aint' got it.. you dont try to kiss his ass -- he's the kind of guy that acts like ass kissing is a waste and then goes and signs.. see i dont dislike him -- he just irks me because his logic DOESNT run consitant... even if it is all just consistant kind of Eyoreish delivery... I've got to stop reading because it's coming back to me.. my early debates with ESB at the Devils News board
Devils731
I can't wait to see Mogilny this season. He was so good breaking out with the redline, he should be on of the guys who benefits the most from taking out the redline.

coldply123
I have to say Im pretty excited about this signing. Mogilny was very well liked by the Devils players when he played in 2000 and 2001, and I think that can be rekindled with the likes of Gomez, Elias etc. He still has that beautiful ability to position himself for a shot and find the open net, he also still has an excellent wrister, and his slapshot will get it done. The only concern I have is his trademark speed and skating ability, if his hip is healthy, Mogilny will bring everything we saw in 2000 and 2001 and then with the Leafs in his first two years to the table. As for the leaving NJ, Lou told Mogilny he did not think the Devils could pay him what other teams were going to offer him, with the big salaries the Devils were paying already for Stevens, Brodeur etc. Mogilny called back and supposedly was willing to talk to Lou, but Lou told him to take the offer and dont let it get away. MadDog2020
oh happy days!I remember when "7" and I had running battles with Tri when Mogilny has allowed to walk away from the Devils........and how valuable he was. I am sooo stoked about this! Now, my wife can take her Mogilny sweater out of the mothballs............ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm stoked too man!! I might have to get an Almo jersey. I was thinking the next jersey I get would be Martin, but I might get an Almo now.

Weekes Head
Wow, I can honestly say I'm shocked here...I really thought there was no chance Lou would ever sign Mogilny, but I do hope this works out for the best. I agree, Mogs could very well benefit from the rule changes, and I hope he does -- God knows we need any scoring we can get right now. I think I'm going to get a Mogilny jersey too with the free jersey thing...would be nice to have.

Derek21
Yeah, I felt the same way about Pavel Bure in his prime. I could watch that kind of hockey player all day. Just beautiful. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah. True that Blackjack. A lot of the Russian players have that quality to their game that make them fun to watch. Fedorov Kovalev (when on) Kovalchuk Datsyuk If you really think about it, many European stars have that: Forsberg Jagr Sundin Elias Naslund Hejduk Hossa Gaborik Havlat Selanne (before decline) Bondra Sykora North Americans: Lemieux Lecavalier St. Louis Richards Sakic Modano Kariya Yzerman Weight Gomez Tanguay Gagne
StarDew
Hip surgeries have come a long way...better range of motion...stronger too...Bo Jackson had a traditional THR and played again...these new ceramic/titanium ones are wonderful...he could have a type of bursitis though...nothing a cortisone shot couldn't help...just something one has to deal with...beats pain
