coldply123
While I will hold out hope and watch for a Red Sox style Comeback. I think it might be time to ease some of the pain by looking at some of the changes that need to be made. Players Who Should/Need to/Must Stay -Patrik Elias.....Not sure if hes worth the max contract, but he needs to be resigned. -Brian Gionta......Needs to be resigned, did disappear against faster teams though this year, always played better against physical teams. -Scott Gomez......Gomer finally showed what we all expected and wanted from him... Brian Rafalski........Obvious Paul Martin........Not a great year, but solid. John Madden.........Overpaid, but our only faceoff man. Jason Wiemer........Reminds me of the McKay/Peluso type who invigorated this team. Brodeur......Obvious Players Who Must Go. Grant Marshall.......Waste of money......Does nothing offensively. Ken Klee.......No Comment Needed Viktor Kozlov.......You play games, not shootouts. Sergei Brylin.......Sarge has lost a step, hes also overpaid, need to take a massive paycut. Jamie Langenbrunner.......People may shake at this, but "Floppenbrunner" does more disappearing acts than Houdini. He looks slow and gets beat to pucks too easily. Rumor has it the Panthers are going to throw money at him, which means we should let him leave. Hes not worth much more than hes getting now. Cutting out Marshall, Kozlov, Brylin, Langenbrunner alone saves you like 8-9 million. Things we need. -A second line center who can make plays, big strong Arnott type preferred. -Speedy Scoring Winger for the 2nd line. -Lemieux type agitator for the third line. -Another defenseman capable of actually playing defense. sundstrom
won't think about it until it's truly over. then i'll really think about it and we should get a big thread on it with thoughts like this. plenty of posters can come up with full analysis and thoughts rather than silly lines like "langenbrunner stinks so let him go". I didnt say Langenbrunner stinks. But if youve watched the games, youd see how poorly he plays. Hes a slow skater, not fluid at all, he takes bad angle shots constantly on the PP. I personally dont want him back, but I dont think its a problem since Florida will pay for him.

Yep. I expect to be starting a thread in the next week, but until then, I'm not doing this when they're still playing the game.
Jimmy Leeds
Do NOT compare Jason Wiemer to Randy McKay. He could not ride his handlebar.
emptynet
WhereamIer is not even close to McKay.
coldply123
He is a Randy McKay type in terms of physical play. Randy was undoubtedly a better offensive player and two way player at that. I was just trying to frame what Wiemer could bring to the table that we need for next year. Geez, everybodys testy on here. That said, I really want some changes with this team. UnderDogX
I didnt say Langenbrunner stinks. But if youve watched the games, youd see how poorly he plays. Hes a slow skater, not fluid at all, he takes bad angle shots constantly on the PP. I personally dont want him back, but I dont think its a problem since Florida will pay for him. I agree about the content of the post as far as it's not over until its over and then I might even give my two cents about who should go and who should stay but I completely disagree with this statement....Langs is tied at fourth in the league in playoff scoring with 12pts even having played 1 or 2 less games then most and even having the team get shutout one game....he's been playing just fine...although he takes a few frustrated penalties, that seems to just be the type of playe he is....and even though he certainly doesn't deserve a raise....he's a good hardworking player who has more skill than most of our hardworking players and is an asset to the team when he makes goals like he did during the Miracle in Montreal during the last game of the season....he doesn't play poorly in any sense of the word and isn't slow either....I personally would rather have him rather than Sykora or anyone else who has the same skill sets at around the same price because of how hard he works..... it's not that people are testy but given the topic of the thread when there is still a game to be played and the analysis of the players which is more opinion then fact you have to understand that some are going to disagree.... And although Rafalski won't be a Niedmybrother, no one will....he, like Stevens, is a rare breed...and although Lou over paid slightly because we did need to keep him, I think he's an asset to the team as well and is a top 15 D-man in the league....you have to realize this season he was being asked (for the most part) to step up and not only take Stevens' place but Niedmybrother's as well...you can't be an offensively minded defensively playing defensemen...once White steps up a bit more (like he did toward the middle to end part of the season) and we have a more rounded core (with Hale and Martin maturing and older players like Klee and slow players like Matvichuk and Lukowhich not playing as much) then Rafalski will show his true skill set and score more while being a great solid D-man.... Mitico12
Gotta disagree... Rafalski (poor man's Niedermayer) needs to go.... Big D..think long and hard about your comment. I think you've not seen that Raffy has been by far our best D man in the playoffs...he's no Niedermayer, but he's definitely one of the greatest puck movers out there... He doesn't give up either...you saw that diving stop he made on the empty net last night...Marty should take lessons...
BlueSkirt
I hate to say it, he's been such a solid Devil, but you are correct about Sarge. His best days are behind him.

I expect to be starting a thread in the next week, but until then, I'm not doing this when they're still playing the game. you were one of the ones i was hoping that would be involved in this. I mean, like it takes so much to set off the Stevens fantasies??? You aren't exactly what they call a "tough audience".

coldply123
Maybe I did post this thread a lil too early. Perhaps its a rush to shock and anger......I find it therapeutic. I think playing the Rangers in the 1st round was the worst thing possible. The problem I have with Langs and his point total is they came in like the span of two games. I dont care about how gets point totals, I want consistency. And Langs is very very inconsistent, and while I like his fit into the style of Devils hockey, his shooting/scoring shows no approach or acumen. Maybe Im too harsh on him, but I think hes a goner anyway. Hes not worth the money the Panthers might end up paying him.
LizDevil30
Nah after watching this series and the Sens/Sabres one, if we didn't face the rags in the first round, we may not have made it to the second.

Pepperkorn
but I missed him during the intermission... I dont have OLN. Did you see it? What all did he say? I mostly day dream about watching a game with him.
Motorcity Devil
Gotta disagree... Rafalski (poor man's Niedermayer) needs to go.... Are you fvcking crazy? Oh, waint a minute... I forgot... The Devils have such a depth at defense that we can afford to let a guy who plays 20+ SOLID minutes a game go... Oh yeah, there's plenty of those players around the league. WTF?! That's ridiculous.
