MadDog2020
Guys, I have seen the light... I bought a 32" Vizio LCD on Saturday, and the only time I have moved from in front of it was to go to work. I'm having DirecTV come out on February 17 to hook up the HD service. I'm FINALLY gonna get to watch hockey in HD- something I've never experienced. Not to mention the Xbox 360 experience is dramatically enhanced!! I'm pumped!!!!!!!!! Devils731
I just bought a new TV as well but won't be setting it up until I move into my Condo in about a month.
sammyk
Nice, but how much HD hockey will you be able to see on DirecTV? I don't think you'll get MSG and FSNY in HD because Dolan doesn't share those with anyone. I'm tempted to buy a 50-60" DLP soon as the prices look too good and my six year old Mitsubishi 55" is starting to show signs the end is near. D731, what kind did you get? Devils731
I got a 50" Panasonic Plasma after doing a bunch of research online. I can't wait to set it up.

D731, what kind did you get? Did you compare the DLP to the Sony's. The Sony has a better pic than DLP IMO. But any more who makes a bad TV? Polaroid even has tv's now I want to move our 50" up to our Bedroom and put a 60"+ in our family room. I'll have to wait until after Valentines Day yet I don't know what to get her yet Nice, but how much HD hockey will you be able to see on DirecTV? But for now just HD Net and sometimes VS is all there is
MadDog2020
Enjoy. How is the pic on that? Did you get it at BJ's or?? Picture is very good. Bright colors are just insane- as vivid a picture as I've seen- and this is without the HD. I got it at Costco. There's no way on earth you can beat the qulaity for the price. I had vaguely heard ogf Vizio beofre, but I did some research and it seems they make a prety solid product. With tax, it was only $750. Can't beat that with a stick. And like I said- the 360 looks AMAZING on it- I've been playing NHL'07 on it every night, and it's incredible. Nice, but how much HD hockey will you be able to see on DirecTV? D731, what kind did you get? I didn't know that - that sucks. Oh well, nothing I can do to control it. We'll see come playoff time if there's more HD hockey available I guess. sammyk
I'm afraid of plasma because of burn in. I have a tendancy of putting things on pause and forgetting...or having Center Ice on and me being in another room and then it goes to their logo. I already got burned by that...literally. D34, when you say Sony, Sony what? Sony makes DLPs too. The screens and processors in the TVs are made mostly by the same companies so that is why you get good TVs from off-brand manufacturers. Burn in from what I heard it is almost non existent anymore I thought maybe you were referring to the TI DLP Seeing Sony doesn't call theirs DLP If you look at the TI DLP's you can see the break down of the colors at lower angles. Devilish34
Whats amazing is Plasmas are actually cheaper than LCD's now
Devils731
Ya, a lot of the LCDs that get advertised a lot are the 1080p which is more than I need right now and makes them really expensive. It would make HD DVDs look fantastic though. Burn in on the plasmas isn't really a big deal anymore. They will change that shading of a cell so subtly that the human eye doesn't notice the shift but the plasma has changed so the burn in doesn't happen. Basically you're just as likely to burn in an old CRT TV as a Plasma now. That was my big concern when talking about Plasmas though. W/ LCDs I'm one of the few people that have a problem viewing them like the rest of the world. I see drastic blurring even when other people won't see any at all. It's my cross to bear which is too bad because they may have been able to talk me into a 1080p despite the expense if it wasn't the case. I have a 37" Sharp Aquos LCD and an Xbox 360 as well. It does make for an awesome experience. I have DirecTV, and unfortunately you can forget about watching the Devils in HD for the most part. You can only get them in HD on cable. I've thought about getting cable for that reason alone. They need to add some more HD channels in a big way too. There's just not enough of 'em. It's true that there aren't really any bad TVs anymore. The only risk you run with going with an off-brand product is trying to get your warranties filled should something go wrong, or how well the product holds up over the long haul. Hockey on the 360 looks incredible...I'm a 2k7 guy myself. Ya, a lot of the LCDs that get advertised a lot are the 1080p which is more than I need right now and makes them really expensive. (It's not bad on mine.) Edited February 6, 2007 by Colorado Rockies 1976

Yah, DLP is a TI trademark I believe. If the burn in problem is solved that's great but a 50"+ plasma is beyond my reach but a DLP isn't. That and they don't look all that bad either, good enough for me. As I get older my eyes will probably get worse so who cares!?
mddevsfan
I have a 50" Sony LCD Projection, and my parents just got a 50" Toshiba DLP. Under most conditions, there is very little difference between the two. I can hardly stand watching shows in SD anymore. There isn't a ton of HD hockey on DirecTV yet, but I only get Devils games on Center Ice, so satellite vs. cable makes no difference to me there. I get so pissed off during games when Doc does the plug for the game in HD "only on cable." I couldn't get my cable from Dolan even if I wanted to, so I just end up getting screwed. I was also told(tweeter salesman) that within a year they will have those(Sony) TV's down to 7" thick and they should be cheaper. Unfortunate for me he teased me with pricing on a front projector and 80" screen.
sandman441
HDNet is a pretty good channel to watch hockey on and they have jersey drawings for every game. You kind of lucked out though because the Devils are on the 22nd then next month they are on HDNet 3 times.

I know that's Mark Cuban's channel, but I'm not really familiar with it. What kind of programming do they typically show? Would Devils games be blacked out on it for me? They show a few different shows without commercial interruption and uncensored. They have concerts I think weekly. They have different sports Boxing, MMA, Hockey, Soccer and I think some basketball. They also have a few shows that have bikini clad girls. Edited February 6, 2007 by sandman441

Yeah it's their own feed and people. They have a new guy I can't remember his name and I think Vanbiesbrouck and I think sometimes Larry Murphy they either switch out or Larry Murphy quit not sure but it's one or the other. I got my jersey when Larry Murphy was on there. They don't do playoffs though it's just regular season. And yeah bikini clad girls in HD. I know of 2 shows one is Get Out! and the other is Bikini Destinations. They also have perfect 10 boxing which is basically model boxing but I'm not sure if that is still on. If you haven't checked out their site yet here is a page to some of the shows they show. http://www.hd.net/series.html You also get the HDNet movie channel which is ok but not that good. They just had Back To The Future 1,2,3 on there. Edited February 6, 2007 by sandman441
