GDT: Devils @ Toronto

MadDog2020

You know, I can really see why the negativity around here drives so many good posters away.

Well that and the utter fifth-grade nonsense in the game thread which has become more and more common lately here in general

No offense to MadDog but with how emotional he gets you know things are bad when he's actually a voice of relative calm!

I agree 100%. If one of those posts went into the net and they won in a shootout, it would have been a completely different attitude on here right now. Instead, the good game that they played gets completely overlooked. The team was not horrible to watch tonight at all, the posts and missed shots were frustrating, but they played well, which is a great improvement over the last game.

That's why I'm so pissed- they did play a very solid game tonight. We deserved better than we got. But at the same time, the silver lining is they didn't lose because of bad or sloppy play. They lost because they didn't get the bounces.

This wasnt as bad a game as many people are making out.

Don and MadDog are right.

The fact that we had that game so close playing half of Lowell is a credit to the team and the organisation.

The post saved more shots than Raycroft this game.

Gomez was poor, he gave the puck up at one point and then didnt even seem to care and just watched it drift off.

I hope he can turn it round for the playoffs, we all know what he is capable of, we saw it last year , he knows he can do it. He makes the offensive zone so easily it makes me cry, but he's not getting any end product.

I still dont want him out of a Devils jersey, but i dont want him in one which costs 5-6 million dollars.

That's because we have literally fifth graders cluttering up the forum with nonsense.

Totally agree 100%!

Devils a bounce here or there this would have been a win by at least two goals. devils as of late have everything going against them. Tough loss when you play that well.

Gomez deserves scorn for this game - not for the miss of the empty net, which is perfectly excusable (he didn't have much to shoot at - it was hardly empty) but for his lackidaisical backcheck on the 2nd goal, where he loafed around the offensive zone.

That's fair...but people were ragging on him for the shot only, before the second goal. I didn't see the goal but I guess whoever told him he's gotta start playing like a $5 million center earlier in the season needs to have another talk with him?

I don't think it matters about the division. It really doesn't. Just play good hockey is all I ask. PLay hard and give it their all, and whatever happens will happen. That's all I can ask. Win or lose.

They played a pretty good game tonight. I just wish Gomez would take the offense on his back and skate through checks, create stuff down low, and back check hard. I'm a broken record, but he's just so good. I wish he would play to form. It's sad.

Don't we all. I've refrained from the Gomez bashing because honestly, there's nothing that I can offer on Gomez that hasn't already been said a million times- I'm pretty much in the Color-Me-Irate-at-Gomez camp right now like most everyone else. But what I will say is this: he's costing himself money, and I don't think he and his three-sheets-to-the-wind attitude even realizes it. His performance this year has been maddening.

I'd like to put a nice cheery face on this but I can't. This team needs to play flawless defense with the injuries and they did not come close to that tonight.

I didn't see a drop of urgency until they were down 2-0.

This is a team without a leader right now. Someone needs to step it up.

It is important that Elias, Madden and Gionta are fully ready when they come back. However, it is just as important that they come back soon. You can't go from not playing for a month straight to the playoffs. That is a recipe for disaster.

It is fitting that the Meadowlands gave the Devils a parting shot. The crappy ice took this team from an apparent contender to a team that right now looks like it would be lucky to get out of the first round.

If Rass is hurt please for the love of God call up Bergfors or Papineau. Clarkson and Pelley have been fine but we need an offense first guy.

Gomez is gone guys after this season. Do you really think he wants to stay in new Jersey? No way by the way he has been playing this whole season. Some dumbass team will pay Gomez 5-6 million when he is really a 3 million dollar player. Just sad considering he had his best season last year.

Sorry but I disagree a lot. When you have your top 3 lines as Parise-Zajac-Langenbrunner, Rupp-Gomez-Clarkson, and Pandolfo-Pelley-Brylin, you're not exactly going to generate a consistent forechecking pressure. Parise-Zajac-Langenbrunner got chances all night, especially Parise, who is that leader I think you're speaking of. 3 of the biggest leaders on the team are hurt (as is Papineau, FWIW). Also, Bergfors has been struggling in the minors. I suspect if Rasmussen is hurt, we're getting Dan Lacouture, aka Rasmussen 2.

gomez didnt play a terrible game tonight... but with the way he has played all year, i'd hope other gms wont take a chance on a big contract with him making him sign here for less

i wish players had to play to earn extra incentives and stuff... he'd step up a little bit

You make some good points here. Yes if Rasmussen is out of the line up with the upper body injury then call someone with OFFENSIVE skills like Bergfors! papineau is another good choice.

Also you are right without Madden and Elias this team has NO leader right now and look lost at times. Some one needs to step up and you think it would have been Gomez. maybe Brylin now since he is the longtime veteran of this team along with Brodeur. You can bet there will be a players only closed meeting sometime tomorrow.

Rupp has not exactly been impressive on the top line. In fact it was his lackadaisical puck pursuit that allowed Toronto to keep the puck in when they scored their second goal.

Bergfors-Gomez-Clarkson

Parise-Zajac-Langs

Pando-Pelley-Brylin

Rupp-Down-Janssen

We need extra offense. It just isn't there right now. Bergfors is the best offensive option we have available to us.

Probably a 90% chance Gomez is gone cause off of this year since it's that much more unlikely with the more he slumps that the Devils pay him what another team would. And then he'll get 70 assists next year with someone that can actually convert on his passes and people will kill Lou for letting him walk

And as for the leadership, Marty's still the leader on the team regardless, C or no C. It would be nice if the coach showed a bit more leadership in situations like this but I guess now's not the time to really go there with a depleted roster :P

I blame this all on that piece of sh*t Mike Brophy. Ever since he wrote that article begging God to not let the Devils win the Stanley Cup, so many bad things have happened to this team.

Seriously though, the injury situation is a little frightening. Injuries are going to happen and I guess its better to have them now then in April but 3 important players have been blessed with possibly the worst injury you can have. Groin injuries are truly the worst. Even if we get Madden, Gio and Elias all back, its very likely that they may not get back to 100% for the rest of the season.

3 players with injured groins. I know some of the players questioned the ice but did anybody ever wonder if maybe there might be a conditioning issue?

Bergfors costs to much he would get double what Rass costs (I think) his contract is $800,000.

Papineau hasnt played for a while and i dont think would score many goals in the NHL.

I hope he gets 70 asssists somewhere. Just not here. Take his lazy ass and get out of here. He'll get a contract, and sit happily ever after. He's won two cups, that's good enough. Show him some sun, and show him some money. Bye Bye Scotty.
