GDT: Devils @ Toronto

I blame this all on that piece of sh*t Mike Brophy. Ever since he wrote that article begging God to not let the Devils win the Stanley Cup, so many bad things have happened to this team.

Seriously though, the injury situation is a little frightening. Injuries are going to happen and I guess its better to have them now then in April but 3 important players have been blessed with possibly the worst injury you can have. Groin injuries are truly the worst. Even if we get Madden, Gio and Elias all back, its very likely that they may not get back to 100% for the rest of the season.

3 players with injured groins. I know some of the players questioned the ice but did anybody ever wonder if maybe there might be a conditioning issue?

Rupp has not exactly been impressive on the top line. In fact it was his lackadaisical puck pursuit that allowed Toronto to keep the puck in when they scored their second goal.

Bergfors-Gomez-Clarkson

Parise-Zajac-Langs

Pando-Pelley-Brylin

Rupp-Down-Janssen

We need extra offense. It just isn't there right now. Bergfors is the best offensive option we have available to us.

Probably a 90% chance Gomez is gone cause off of this year since it's that much more unlikely with the more he slumps that the Devils pay him what another team would. And then he'll get 70 assists next year with someone that can actually convert on his passes and people will kill Lou for letting him walk

And as for the leadership, Marty's still the leader on the team regardless, C or no C. It would be nice if the coach showed a bit more leadership in situations like this but I guess now's not the time to really go there with a depleted roster :P

He can't be any worse than what we are throwing out there right now. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I am not saying he should be up full time but it is clear that this is barely a one line team offensively right now. Noone else really has goal scoring ability. Bergfors does.

The Devils don't panic and call up prospects just to call them up. Bergfors hasn't demonstrated goal scoring ability in the AHL - he has 30 goals in 115 lifetime AHL games. There are guys I think Lou would call up before him - and I think Lacouture will probably be the guy.

Minard, I doubt it. His skills will not translate to the NHL.

I dont see why not, if Clarkson and pelley can preform reasonably well in the NHL i dont see why Minard cant. He leads lowell in goals, why not try it.

Also if he has played with Gomer it might add some chemistry, which Gomez lacks right now.

From what I have read Minard is not NJ Devils property so he could not just be called up. It's not a panic move. It is an obvious move. This team is stocked with big guys with no offensive skill adding Locuture is not addressing the offensive problem this team has. Bergfors addresses that. He may not be setting the AHL on fire but he is the best option available.

He is 20 years old. It is not like he is just 18. I really don't see how playing 4 or 5 games in the NHL could hurt his development. He would know it is an emergency injury situation. I think having a taste of the top flight would motivate him.

Minard is 25 years old - he will not be an NHL player. He might get a few games with a poor team in the next few years, but he simply won't play in the NHL full-time. There are a lot of players who have outstanding stats in the AHL that can't hack it in the NHL.

Bergfors doesn't make too much while Gionta is out. The Devils save no cap space while Gionta is out because they don't get to take Gionta's salary off the cap, they're just allowed to re-use that same portion of salary while Gionta is out but any extra is not added to the cap. I just thought I'd clear that up.
