If Marty doesn't rest soon, he can start resting after we are sweep in the first round. He looks and is playing tired these past few weeks.

When you leave fantasyland let us know. :P He had a bad game, no doubt about it. Lousy time and lousy game to be lousy, but it happens. He's not resting. He's in net from here on out for better or for worse. I think he plays superb for at least 2, subpar for at least another and average for the other 2, hopefully with the rest of the team being the difference maker. I think Luongo has a better chance at the Parent record and thus the Vezina. Sid's got the Hart. Now what I would love is Marty's name on the Conn Smythe and that other big silver thing.

I agree Manta.

Listen, Marty's durability is LEGENDARY..no question about it...and he is as mentally tough as any goalie I have ever seen...but he is in his Mid 30's now...he is human...he really does need a rest from time to time..but I am sure considering that Marty has been an ironman for years now...I'm sure he convinces the Devils coaching staff to play..but for the benefit of the Devils going into April, he needs to be fresh.

As for the game last night, no overractions from me, nice win...and I thought a good confidence booster for the Sabres going forward. Believe me I know madden and gionta were out, but you are preaching to the choir when it comes to injuries when you talk to a Sabres fan, last time we met the Sabres had 8 regulars out.

The only thing is, the last three times these teams have met it is really hard to get a 100% feel for how they would look come playoff time. At different times this year, the Sabres and Devils have not had their full compliment of players...but we will see what happens, if they meet in the playoffs (I still want no part of you guys!) :P

In the month of March, Marty has started 12 games, compiled a very UNMarty like:

5-6-2-1 record, a 3.09 GAA and poor .891 save %.

Fantasy land is over---he is tired and it is showing every night for the past month.

that's the defense, mostly. Carolina annihilated us - hanging a 5 spot on Brodeur in a period and a half - and the total lack of offense has had the defense on its heels all game long. Brodeur hasn't been superb, but he hasn't been awful either.

I love how whenever Brodeur does poorly, it's always 'he's tired' - goalies go through good and bad stretches regardless of whether they're tired or not.

Including overtime Marty has played over 4450 minutes compared to Luongo's 4200 which is almost 4 more games than Luongo. In addition, Luongo's back up has started 8 games compared to Clemmy's 3 games.

Marty is tired and its showing.

Correlation does not imply causation

So what you're saying is that Marty playing approximately 5% more than Luongo over the course of six months means that Marty is tired and Luongo is not?

he will have all summer to rest, after the playoffs are over.

the guy is a 12/13 year veteran, one of the greatest goaltenders ever and "we" think we know what is best for him.

jeez!

Exactly. It is ridiculous and actually quite humorous that a bunch of fans think they know what to do better than the PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES, COACHES, AND GM'S almost all the time.

i don't know marty could use a rest of course, maybe a game, but would that make much of a difference? he'e fine, don't worry about him, the man keeps breaking records almost every game. he's having a helluva season. once the playoffs start, he'll be fine. now that we got elias back that makes a difference, espec since he and gomez work so well together. i don't see why the hate for scotty, he's a good player. and when he get madden back, it will make a huge difference on defense. last night was a tough game, we should have won, but the sabres are tough, it's gonna come down to the two of us. i respect briere, good player, but we can beat these guys, you saw that when we scored that last goal with a second left. we don't stay down. and clarksson is showing something now too. i can't stand the penguins, not as much as the flyers who we should beat, but i want that division title!

Every time Marty has a bad game, why does everyone just assume that it is because he is tired? People have bad games. It's not always because they are tired. There were times this season where the Devils had 5 or 6 days between games and everyone was saying Marty was tired.

He'll turn 35 shortly after the team is bounced from the playoffs, he has to start cutting back eventually.

The negativity from Devils fans is getting ridiculious. :blahblah: Have some confidence that Brodeur has a chance for the record and the Devils can win the division and the #2 seed. Screw Pittsburgh!

I've been worried about the overplaying of Marty all year too but it's too late to do anything about it now except hope he gets a second wind before the playoffs - and that's possible considering the team has no road games other than Philly the next couple of weeks (little travel).

I know people say well Marty played more minutes in '03 - which won't be the case by season's end, and Grant Fuhr started as many games one season. In '03 the game (and the Devils' team D) wasn't what it is now, playing 79 games now is like playing 90 or so under the old rules and team D. And Fuhr's team wasn't contending for a Cup.

Marty himself is biased in wanting to play too many games, he believes he can play basically any game he wants to and I do admire the fact that he wants to play every game. He feels like the leader of the team (which he is), so he's that much more determined not to sit because of it.

I just hope we're not sitting here after a six-game loss in the first round wondering if the team pushed too hard for the division. And I don't just mean the overplaying of Marty either, really most of the top defensemen have been overplayed as well.
