GDT: Pittsburgh @ Devils

Going to take this in a positive stride. Everytime the devils play badly, they come back with a powerful win streak. Look at this season, they started off badly and put together a 13 game streak. I'd much rather see them start to peak in about another 2-3 games rather than right now. This team knows how to bring it together.

After the first round exit, during the off season, we re-sign all the defensemen, and get two more experienced defensemen, 11 is way better than 9. This way, we can ensure, games like this will end 0-0 and then we can try our luck in the Shoot Out riding Marty. At the trade deadline, we add another defensemen and now, we can play each game with 3 defensemen and 2 forwards each shift. Each line change we swap defensemen and when the puck is heading towards our zone, we shift the forwards. I think this a fool proof recipe to success.

Yeah the D was solid tonight for the Devils. Hey do you remember when I mentioned that the Devils might get shut out 12 times this season and you said you would take me up on a bet for that. Care to revisit that one? I'm joking obviously but man are they inching close or what?

As for this MVP debate, consider this. Martin Brodeur has played in 10 games, or basically 600 total minutes of hockey, where his team has failed to score a goal for him. And he still has 40 wins. I know he didn't get much work tonight but where would this team be without him?

We don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

We will lose all remaining games by shutout or 1 goal scored.

Rangers will laugh at us.

Marty will be injured in the final game.

Enough darkness for everyone here....jeez.

BTW - Remember all the "Oh yes, now PIT has no chemistry" posts on Trade Deadline Day.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :argh:

In fairness to Brodeur, so much of the Devils' hockey played now is for his benefit. The Devils just don't pass the puck in the offensive zone cross-ice anymore, which leads to less odd-man situations the other way.

The sad irony is that this team could win a lot if they had some defensemen who can shoot the puck on net, leaving rebounds for the forwards crashing the net. Johnny Oduya's offense has totally disappeared in the last 10 games, White and Vishnevski are ciphers, and Brookbank can't shoot either. That leaves Martin's weak shot and Mottau's weaker shot. Sigh. At least get Rachunek back there.

Good point on Oduya. The one thing I have noticed about him is that you haven't heard his name lately and I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. His D has been fine but the offense is nowhere to be found. And as for the rest of the Defense...yeah we all know how that song goes.

My only hope is that the team doesn't get down on themselves after whats been going on. You can see that they're trying but their confidence has to be shot right now.

I no longer care about where we finish as long as we are in the playoffs, what i want to see before the end of the regular season is some Chemistry and scoring.

The whole team needs to pick it up, especially those who are out there to score, i remember in his first season Parise said he wanted to be the go to guy on the team, well he needs to start putting the puck in the net.

I think the conference has gone now, the division will come down to pretty much the last game, i don't hold much hope for that either.

Getting shut out this mush is also very embarrassing.

I'm fine with the slump coming now, as opposed to the playoffs. I'd make these the lines:

Parise-Elias-Langenbrunner

Zubrus-Zajac-Clarkson

Pandolfo-Madden-Gionta

Rupp-Pelley-Asham

Oduya-Martin

Mottau-White

Vishnevski-Rachunek

and go from there. I know Sutter won't ever scratch Brylin but I don't see that many positives in his play these days.

Tonight was our night to break out of the offensive funk. We were playing a Pittsburgh team on the second night of a back to back, they're not that good defensively and Fleury has never been very consistent.

The team has not developed offensive chemistry all season, despite having talented players up front, none of them compliment each other. Incompatible talent.

Now we're going to face a Rangers team that traps fanatically and has a goalie that takes up 90% of the net. The funk may continue.
