Devs4LIFE
There was a thread about this a few weeks ago there weren't any pics though. I hope the final statue doesn't look dumb like a piece of modern art, I know my friends who are Rags fans are gonna make fun of it even if it does look halfway descent...oh well. Then they can go back to their out-dated, urine-scented, statueless arena.

Satans Hockey
If that is it than I don't like it. I don't understand why we have to have an ugly looking thing like that. Why couldn't we do what the Phillies did... Edited August 3, 2008 by Satans Hockey

JWomp
Yeah, I don't like it very much either. On one hand, I'm glad we're getting a statue of some sort, but on the other hand, I think a realistic, life sized or slightly larger statue of a real player like Marty would have been way better (like the Phillies did). devilsadvoc8
I know the artist quite well. He does great work. It is different b/c that is his medium. Some won't like it some will. One thing to point out, Jon is a HUGE devil fan and he built this with great pride. This isn't just some artist looking to get paid for their work, he has been a fan since they moved to Jersey. It is something that he is very excited about and is a dream come true to contribute in such a visible way to the franchise that has meant so much to him throughout his life. CupChamps3X
You would rather have what looks like a tin man instead of a sculpture of Stevens or Brodeur? Do we know for a fact that the "tin man" is the finished product? I was assuming it would be somehow painted... maybe not?
Devils731
I guess I'm in the minority. I seems I'm going to like something that is an interesting impression on a hockey player. It's different, unique, and it looks like it'll be pretty cool to me.

RowdyFan42
You would rather have what looks like a tin man instead of a sculpture of Stevens or Brodeur? I'm not so caught up in idol worship that I need a sculpture of a specific player in order to feel good about myself rather than a piece of art meant to represent a general idea. I guess I'm in the minority. I seems I'm going to like something that is an interesting impression on a hockey player. It's different, unique, and it looks like it'll be pretty cool to me. For the first time in a while, we agree.
devilsadvoc8
My guess is that it will be polished metal with no paint. That is how the majority of the artist's sculpures are finished.

HellOnICE
This has nothing to do with a statue of a players, etc. This is one artist's work, a Devils fan, building a massive landmark for our new palace. Who says the Devils aren't up to anything else.

Who says the Devils aren't up to anything else. Exactly. They didn't go out and find this guy to make something. He wanted to and they agreed to put it near the Rock. And why does everyone want a Brodeur statue? The man still has 4 years left in the NHL. Can't he retire before he's immortalized? If there are going to be any player statues they will be in Triangle Park, not at the corner where this is going. As for being painted according to the article from a couple of months back (and from what devilsadvoc08 said) it should be polished metal. The artist said it will reflect all different colors from different angles. It will actually be very different and unique. We should appreciate it, not complain about it. ice dog
i appreciate modern art, hopefully this sculpture works...hopefully it does not look like sh!t...lol! It also looks like it will be really shiny, wonder how it will interact with the sun on a bright day. ...could wind up being annoying to motorists etc.

I agree, and there is no reason why we can't have this and a statue of a player as well, so I don't know what all the complaining is about.
