Other Location 4-3 Make sure to put the WINNER in CAPS and the Loser in Lowercase (save for the first letter(s)... locations are proper nouns silly). If you are confused, I will have my personal brackets up for reference. 4. Please follow current NHL seeding charts. In other words, make sure your second round matchups would be the ones that would actually happen if the first round happened as you planned. If you have all the first round winners right but then fail to re-seed the teams correctly, too bad! 5. Anybody can participate, regardless of whether or not you participated in the regular season predictions contest. SCORING Scoring will be done progressively with more points awarded after each round. FIRST ROUND 3 points for predicting a first round winner (8 total possibilties, max 24 points) 1 point for predicting the amount of games it took (8 total possibilities, max 8 points) SECOND ROUND 7 points for predicting a second round winner (4 total possibilities, max 28 points) 1 point for predicting the amount of games it took (4 total possibilities, max 4 points) THIRD ROUND 15 points for predicting a third round winner (2 total possibilities, max 30 points) 1 point for predicting the amount of games it took (2 total possibilities, max 2 points) FINAL ROUND 31 points for predicting the Stanley Cup Champion (1 possibility, max 31 points) 1 point for predicting the amount of games it took (1 total possibility, max 1 point) The max for each round is 32 points. The total number of points that you can get would be a massive 128 points. Why am I doing it this way? Basically, if you predict the Cup winner, you have gotten 3+7+15+31=66 points (plus however many points you get for predicting the right number of games). Although each round is worth 32 points, the total number of points you will get increases as the playoffs go on. I think it makes sense. Predict a first round winner: 3 points, at least. Predict a second round winner: 10 points, at least. Predict a third round winner: 25 points, at least. Predict the final round winner: 66 points, at least. I think you will all see what I mean. There is no need to keep updating this thread. --- FAQ Q: What if I predict ______ as a second round winner but have the match-up wrong? A: You will still get the points. Q: What if I predict ______ as a second round winner but they didn't get past the first round? A: You don't get any points. The way this works is that you are rewarded progressively as the rounds go on. The more accurate you are longterm, the more points you will get. Q: What if I predict ______ and ______ as second round winners but they end up facing each other in the second round? A: You get the points for the one winner. The reason you still get points is that (presumably) you would have gotten more points if you predicted the second round match-ups right, so you're rewarded for getting the winner but punished for not getting the match-ups right. Q: What if I predict ______ as the winner, they actually lose, but I get the number of games right? A: No, you didn't get the number of games right. You did in a way, but if they lost 4-2... well let's just say that's different from winning 4-2. You only get the point if you get the winner. Q: Does the regular season predictions matter? A: No. It's a whole new game. The point totals will be far different so combining them would be useless. Q: Can I change my predictions as the rounds go on? A: NO! Q: Ask me a question...
