Do not know too much about Edmonton as I have not been there as of yet. Will soon travel there possibly on a WC trip in the near future. thefiestygoat Posted September 2, 2008 Share Posted September 2, 2008 I have never been to Edmonton so I can't comment on that. I went to Montreal last year and was blown away. I wasn't in town when the Devils were up there and I didn't catch any games, but the city is beautiful and everywhere you go there is hockey stuff. The Maurice Richard display was in one of the local museums which was awesome, although its moved on now. There are a ton of hockey stores and when you turn on the tv there is just non-stop hockey coverage. Besides all the hockey stuff there was plenty of things to do and see. The historic part of town was one of my favorite places to visit while up there. Getting exposed to some French Canadian bands was also pretty cool. I can't wait so if anyone has some suggestions on where to stay, sights to see, etc would be much appreciated. So far I know I'm gonna hit up the game and Marty's pizza place but we're gonna be there 2-3 days so is there anywhere else we should visit? annabelle Posted September 2, 2008 Share Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) Edmonton..it's like Winnipeg but bigger, which is like Grand Forks but bigger ..boo..it's pretty much where the people who can't afford Calgary live.. It's kind of like asking, "where should I go, New York City or Buffalo..." Honestly just for the culture/things to do/people go to Montreal..plus Les Habitants don't suck as bad as the Coilers. If you go, be sure to make the trip to Quebec City as well. It is a beautiful city. Like Anna said, your also close enough to Ottawa as well if you want to make more of a trip out of it and see another game or two. Edmonton is a brutal city to drive in (if that's what you intend to do) but, like most Canadian cities, it breathes, sleeps and eats hockey 24 hours /day. ( Quebec city ) And Montreal Canadiens celebrate their 100th, so it could be a cool trip to visit both ! About 3 hours max between the two cities. I wil probably go to both Devils games this year since they are both on a Saturday. I usually stay in a Bed and Breakfast on the McGill side of town. I made the trip to Ottawa a few years ago and really want to go back. Went to Vancouver last year for theh Devils game but never made it to the game as I lost my wallet as soon as I got in to Vancouver. That kind of ruined the trip a bit. Devil Dan 56 Posted September 2, 2008 Share Posted September 2, 2008 I've been to Montreal a bunch of times and I always have a blast. It's a great city. The atmosphere in the arena is fantastic. I was up there for the 2004 World Cup where Canada beat the US 3-2, and the fans were good for the most part. A few jerks, but thats to be expected. We caught the Canada-Slovakia game the next day, too. I've been there for a few Devils games, and also caught the Isles and Penguins up there in 2006. The drive is boring as hell though. There isn't much of anything north of Albany on that trip. I recommend going with a group that won't drive you crazy! I'll be going up in March, too. We're catching the Isles-Habs game on Thurs, a QMJHL game on Friday, and the Devils on Saturday. Should be great! I'd love to see Edmonton, but I need to see Ottawa first. I've been in both cities but I only went to Bell cneter (I stop in Edmonton and take a brief look) and not SKyreach Center (now they call it Rexall Place). The impression Edmonton gives me is another Ottawa city, which I also travel before. Alright, I just make a list here except for Calgary (if you really want, my sister was a student of University of Calgary and I can ask her for that) Vancouver is the best because it is virtually another Hong Kong City (my birth place) and a passionate hockey-mad city. Montreal is the second best largely I spend the best time with my girlfriend there and Bell Center is a rocking place, but parking is a challenge if you've got yourself a nice car/a brand new car. Ottawa is the third option although it is same as TO IMO, but I prefer Ottawa because, first, it's closer to MTL (2hrs drive) and easier to get a ticket. TO ranks fourth although I have a permanent home in Scarborough because I hate their arrogant fans and of course, I wear a Devils jersey during 2000 playoffs. But still, they're harsh on other fans IMO. EDM: as mention, I only take a tour from the hotel to the airport, but the city looks nice and it is pretty similar to Ottawa IMO. My suggestion would be if you pick a hotel, don't pick downtown Montreal (Centre-Ville it reads on the map or just avoid any hotels around Metros Guy-concordia, Peel, McGill to Berri-Uqam and China town should be omitted as well) because the city will set roadblocks for certain types of activities and after games, you'll have a tough time getting back. I think they just had me fill out a little form on the plane and then go through customs at the airport. It was easy. They actually asked me less questions than when I've driven across the border.
