Letter to Philadelphia

Speaking of Philly concerts, a few years ago, Pearl Jam came out with a bunch of live concert CDs from different venues around the country. There were like 30 or 40 of them total. Two of the CDs were labeled as Philadelphia Live shows. The only thing is that the concerts didn't take place in Philly but in Camden. During at least one of the shows, Eddie Veddar asked the crowd whether they were from New Jersey or Philadelphia. You can audibly hear the crowd booing when he said New Jersey. I know a few people who were at that show. They said it was pretty embarassing for everyone there from Jersey.

I was at one of those PJ shows! I'm never ashamed to cheer for Jersey - I felt like I was the only one in my section cheering.

They did a show at the Borgata in AC about 3 years ago... the response was very different. Everyone cheered for Jersey. It's amazing what a difference a couple of miles makes.

considering the flyers have had two playoff series with the rangers in the last 15 years, both where they won, i have to think otherwise.

philadelphians just love to hate things, so they will probably tell devil fans they hate the devils more than anyone else.

It's understandable that the fans of Philly teams are so angry, I would be angry if I had to live and work in Philly. In their case the grass really is greener on the other side (of the bridge).

That's a bold statement considering that Camden is on the other side of the bridge. :P

Philly doesn't have time to deal w/ their criminal citizens because they are off doing something far more important like making THIS executive decision:

from imdb: "The city of Philadelphia refused to allow the film's poster to appear at bus stops because the title contains the word 'porno'."

Again, not just Philly. In fact when Kevin Smith filled in for Ken during one of the intermissions Steve Cangelosi only referred to the movie as "Zack and Miri" It's been happening all over the country and it's quite silly.

Im not saying they shouldn't tighten security and I am sorry you had a sucky experience and were unable to get assistance I'm sure it was frightening and totally not necessary.

My point is, I could get a flare passed airport security lines, how exactly do you plan on preventing that from happening a at a hockey game? Flares can be really small, you could easily tape one to the inside of your leg, hell you could get a flare that fits inside your sneaker. You could never stop this from happening if someone really wanted to do it again.

You don't think you could slip that passed security? I'm sure I could.

Just put a flare in your boxers.. if security asks "is that a flare in your pants?" you just say, "Thank you ver much! I'm very proud of it too!" :)

Thought I'd add. Last night was the first time I've visited Philly that I haven't wished to kill everyone living there upon my leaving.

Went with a bunch of friends to Bar Ferdinand (TAPAS!!!!) in the Fishtown section. That place is awesome.

You should've worn your Devils hat and a t-shirt with "1975" printed in gigantic black numbers.

I wish I could say that this surprises me but I've been to plenty of games vs. the Flyers at the Prudential Center as well as at Continental and even as the visiting team, Flyers fans are disrespectful, violent, and if you're sitting near any of them they make it impossible to enjoy the game (even in your own building!!!!)

Last year, I went with a big group of friends to a Devils vs. Flyers game and a female Flyers fan very obviously INTENTIONALLY spilled an entire beer down my friends back after she had spent the whole game ranting at us anyway.

Flyers fans, Eagles fans, Phillies fans...they're all the same. trrrrrrashy! and they wonder why no one likes them!

As Doc said, "the Flyers are wearing their black jerseys today...and most of the Atlantic Division would say it's to match the color of their hearts."

It's not even Division rivalry - the Flyers fans act that way when they play here in DC at the Verizon Center! Sub-human is a good description- the only fans that match their obnoxiousness are the Pens'!

The Rags fans were remarkably quiet and well-behaved here last Saturday - losing tends to do that to them.:dance::dance:

  • 3 weeks later...

So I'm reviving this because I guess the issue isn't dead yet?

I got a call from a Flyers PR guy this morning but I was heading into class so he said he would call me back later this afternoon. He said Ed Snider (Flyers owner) and Peter Lukko (pres of the Comcast Spectacor company) had both personally read my letter and told this PR guy to contact me to discuss it with me....

So I wonder what he wanted to talk about? We'll see soon...

Also he said that Ed Snider read it and saw it on a Devils message board (this is the only board I go on and therefore the only one I posted this on). So uh... does his people read the board here?

1. They're going to say "sorry" and "we do not condone that type of behavior".

2. I'll bet, if he truly read a message board, he was emailed a link to it. Ask 'em

3. They will ask you if you have any ideas how they can do things better.

SEE YA THURSDAY!!!
