Shanahan joins Devils

He's not signed and it isn't known when he will sign but Shanahan has apparently joined the Devils per TSN.

Brendan Shanahan is a New Jersey Devil -- sort of.

Sources says the unrestricted free agent winger is joining the team but has yet to agree to terms on a contract and it isn't clear at this point when that will happen or when he will be ready to play a game with them.

But sources say Shanahan will start skating in New Jersey today and the details of him officially becoming part of the team will be worked out in the days to come.

I'm...conflicted, at best.

haha, you summed it up for me.

i was about to post today that the devils do need depth for the playoffs - their alternate winger being sheldon brookbank - but i don't see what shanahan adds. plus he will likely get something like 4 million a season which will eat all our cap space.

It could be worse, Shanahan does bring something to the table because his shot is still pretty good. 4th line time plus power play time wouldnt be a bad gig.

Rolston, Holik, and Shanahan = Most expensive 4th line in the NHL. If this is true, I just don't know what to say.

Leadership and help with a sorry power play I suppose. And Lou's always held him in high regard even if the feeling hasn't been mutual. I guess Shanahan finally gave up the pipe dream of the Rangers taking him back and just wanted to take an offer.

I would be more skeptical of this if it wasn't TSN...I mean really, not having a contract or being in game shape sounds like pretty flimsy evidence. But I had a feeling some shoe was about to drop with the way the team was playing.

this is brendan shanahan guys .. a legitimate goal scorer and great on the power play .. forget age - its for one year .. great addition in my book

+1

He will help out the Devils horrible PP and it is an upgrade to replace possibly Rupp.

One year deal I am sure won't be much - possibly $2M at most - still having room under the salary cap.
