RockingTheRed81
I dont know what to think of this....I dont even know what line he will play on and who will get sent down in place of him?
sundstrom
btw i am pretty sure shanahan will make something like 2 million pro-rated because why in the world did bobby holik get 2.5 million? i don't think shanahan would play for less than a million pro-rated. i guess we will have to see, but just look at the money he paid to alexander mogilny in august of 2005, i don't think there were teams beating down his door. it was a different time in the offseason. i still think the devils overpaid holik - we all know he wanted to come back here and nowhere else. $1.75 or $2MM woulda done it but i guess it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. it did not keep the devils from doing anything else. i think he's coming in at $1M - $1.5MM prorated. as for lou's conf call comments that Shanny is here for the PP, well, I've already covered what the obvious problem is and it doesn't really require bringing in a 40 year old forward to work the wall. HellOnICE
Maybe something with Oduya for Jbo. I really think if we land Jbo, he's going to stay here. He's going to come in and see all the vets, a world class goalie, the Stanley Cup banners, and he'll be ours. No doubt about it. His numbers have been pretty good this year, so I guess I'm just all-around biased against him. I would love to dump him off to Florida instead of Johnny O. I'm also a fairweather Brian Gionta fan, so obviously, I like him now, but I would trade him in some Bowmeester package as well. I worry about messing with the chemistry more than anything right now. NJTank99
His exit may have been ugly but we got Scotty Stevens and in the end it was a great day for the Devils. I like this move for half a season, if he gets in playing shape, Marty comes back strong it could be Stanley the Fourth hanging at the rock. As for Shanny I think this is a fitting tribute song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8Qyv3XCLI4

Salvador-Martin White-Bouwmeester I don't know how keen Florida will be on trading Bouwmeester considering they are in the thick of the race right now, and figure to be challenging for a playoff spot down the stretch. It's quite the predicament Jaques Martin could have- do you trade Bouwmeester and get something for him, or do you hold onto him for a playoff run and take your chances on losing him for nothing in free agency? Florida hasn't made the playoffs in 9 years- they need to be able to get the fans down there interested in the team and the sport again. That will be an interesting situation to keep an eye on for sure.

If it was about getting a good seed (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 even perhaps?) then OK but I dont see Florida getting past 7 or 8.. Plus I'm not so sure Florida can beat Boston, Washington, NJ, NYR, Philadelphia, or Montreal in a 7-game playoff series. I don't think seeding or opponent matters when you haven't made the playoffs since 2000. Home playoff games = $$$ and equals some buzz for the Panthers in South Florida for the first time in forever. It also equals an increase in season ticket subscriptions for next year too. When your fans are starving for the playoffs, getting there is really all they will care about and can reasonably expect. adavid
And yet, the only team older than us won the Cup last year.Age doesn't mean that much, and the experience level cannot be underestimated. We've got guys who have won Cups here and guys who have won them elsewhere. Guys who clearly know what it takes to win, don't have to be told or learn it the hard way. Yep. but its funny how age can easily become an issue as the season grinds on into the playoffs. Besides, Chelios screws up that average anyway
ALBDEVSFAN
Now I wouldn't really be suprised If we send Clarkson/Leblond or Leach (any package of decent tough players) To Toronto after Brian Burke already made the move for Brad May. This would piss me off because I don't like Rupp. It seems like he has to be persuaded to play physical, like Sutter has to promise Scooby Snacks to him if he Hits and Fights, But if it means Kaberle then I guess im for it. Lou's a genius, I tells you.
Triumph
the devils' best players are in or around the prime of their careers. the depth guys are the ones who are oldest, aside from brodeur.

MantaRay
I don't understand this move at all. We don't need him. I would rather have Rupp in the line-up. One big hit and Shanahan is done.

Cmon man. 1st, White has a NTC. 2nd, do you really think Florida would trade a top 5 dman in the league for a trade centered around Colin White?
