John Madden hasn't had the best season of his career and his role has been diminished to the point that there's a lot of speculation that he might be traded. But Madden came through tonight by going to the net to knock in the rebound of a David Clarkson wraparound for the winning goal in a 2-1 victory in Columbus.

"I think John has been playing fairly well," Devils coach Brent Sutter said after tonight's game. "Everyone looks at John points-wise because he put up 20 goals (last season) and he's done it in the past and so when he doesn't get points people think he's not playing well. His No. 1 job is to be strong 5-on-5 play and to be a strong penalty killer for us and in this trip he's been that. He scored the big goal for us tonight and he was rewarded in the end because of what he's been doing."

Weekes admitted the Malhotra goal was a bad one.

Madden is a better player than fans are seeing I think. The guy deserves more credit than he's getting all together. He does his job, and unfortunately his job doesn't necessarily require him to score goals. Well playes Johnny Madden, well played.
