Baggy Spandex
( Fat?) I don't get that either. If anything, he's just short. Rangers fans have this obsession with weight, and it's funny because most Rags fans I've seen are the fattest sons of bitches I've seen. If that loser never called Marty fatso, there would never be any of these comments. Edited February 7, 2009 by Baggy Spandex
theamazingtiny
People talk about the devils "drinking the koolaide" sounds like they all drank the Gomez Koolaide...and are now realizing what they really got. The one comment made about "lackadasical attitude skate all the way down and shoot into the goalies stomach." Summed it up for me. Gomez had flashes of brilliance sure but mostly I was just pulling my hair out as he skated past everyone and wasted a great chance...over and over. MadDog2020
It's a sign of "respect and affection" among Ranger and Flyer fans to call him that. Indeed. But my personal favorite is "Uncle Lou".

RunninWithTheDevil
Are any of you guys going to boo Gomez at the Rock on Monday? It would be cool if both the Devs and Rangers fans boo him. Thanks devils - we would appreciate that

arena2003
http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=604138How many threads just like this one did we used to post over here? Classic stuff!! Thank you and great thread as I love this: "Who's the most useless as a Ranger that has also played for the Devils? Johnny Mac Holik Driver Kamensky (I think he played for the Devils) Gomez Malakhov Dunham Walt Poddubny was pretty good for us and sucked for the Devils. Please add to the list I'm forgetting some names besides Shanny." Can somebody, who doesn't have kids to chase around at present, please add up the $$$ that the market was going to pay for these indivduals and then please add on what the Rags overpaid to obtain their services. Oh WHAT FUN THIS IS! Gomez... "A 7.357m cap hit until 2013."

Microwavepizza
i remember the day i found out... i was VERY pissed... then mid-season last year... i LOVED how he was gone.. and NOW... muhahahaha have fun ranger fans... enjoy him, and enjoy well i was at the game monday.. i wish people would STOP booing him... just because who cares, hes useless to them and useless to us. We're just acknowledging he exists.. when he didn't exist really on monday..(minus 4 minutes in the box)

We're just acknowledging he exists.. when he didn't exist really on monday..(minus 4 minutes in the box) I was actually far more pissed about Rafalski leaving, although at what he signed for I understood why Lou let him go. I was pretty much indifferent about Gomez. Maybe that's because he seemed so indifferent during his last season here. My whole take was "If this is how he's playing in a contract year..." But such details are lost on uncreative GMs like Sather, who's solution to everything is to throw money at whatever names are out there. halfsharkalligatorhalfman
Gomez and Drury are both great supporting players getting paid WAYYYY too much money. Its clear the frustration is boiling over for the Rangers fans but I would love to have either player on the devils at a lower price. Gomez in particular was great for us and one of the most consistent performers in the playoffs. But boy it's fun watching his cap hit sink the rangers. I am loving this just like every other Devil fan, but let's be honest. Gomez ran roughshod over us last year. But what a difference a year makes! Triumph
it is funny how sather basically repeated the holik mistake again with drury. yes, he's a guy a winning team loves to have. but he doesn't shoot or pass well enough to be paid what he's being paid. Colorado Rockies 1976
BUT HE WILL FLOURISH IN A MORE OFFENSIVE SYSTEM AND NOT THE BORING DEVILS TRAP LIFE!!!!! (I'm sorry that gets me EVERY TIME!!! ) Yeah I'll never forget that day...I remember thinking oh really? How exactly? And over at HF, Ranger fans completely bought into it. "100 points easy" was posted more than once. Sather is the worst kind of GM...arrogant, yet clueless. Redden is the latest perfect example. Other offensive defensemen were available (Hainsey, Streit), but Redden was the best-known name of the group, so Sather jumped all over him. It didn't matter that the Senators couldn't wave bye-bye to him fast enough, or that his play had declined. I could almost hear Sather discussing it: "That Redden guy, didn't he used to be pretty good? Let's get him!" There are fantasy league GMs who could do a better job than that overrated blowhard. Revan
Great post, halfshark. Can you imagine if Gomez was on the Devils now? We might be where the Bruins are. (OK, that might be a stretch.) Actually, after Ottawa kicked us out of the playoffs back in 2007, I thought the Devils needed some serious changes. Not changing 4th line guys anymore - swapping guys from the top lines was necessary. And although losing Gomez and Rafalski made 2008 painful, the team will benefit from this mini-rebuilding in the long run IMO. Sometimes guys who look good on paper just can't succeed with the team anymore. Letting these two go let Lou sign many new [old] guys, Rolston, Holik, Shanahan and it's been great so far with Sutter's new system. Let's hope they don't disappoint us in the playoffs. LOTCB
It's not the player, its the system. Of course. It's the coach. It's the lack of effort. It's the GM. Its always something else besides the TALENT in NY. They make the 2nd round twice in 2 years and some Rangers fans feel a sense of entitlement; here is a news flash: Getting to the 2nd round means you are LESS then 1/2 the way home to a Stanley Cup. Can the Rangers be better with the better coach? Sure, how much better? I don't know. Stop the excuses Rangers fans and realize maybe they just are NOT that good. Get rid of $ather first.
