SPECTOR'S NOTE: Shanahan doesn't want to either move his family out of the New York area nor does he want to spend next season playing in another season away from them. New York or New Jersey allows him to remain at home. Edited July 15, 2009 by Rock

nyrsuck26
C'MON LOU! He's basically asking to be re-signed.
Devils731
Please, go be on the Rangers Shanny.
Triumph
just say no to shanahan. i like what he did here, he's a solid addition, but i cannot trust jacques lemaire with brendan shanahan. this was the reason i was against signing shanahan last year. and now that the rangers are eviscerating their bottom lines, shanahan would actually fit on that team now. bostondevil11
If that friggen guy signs with the Rangers! ... It would be our fault. It would be because we showed him no interest. Don't kid yourself. Do you go to Panara Bread with Lou to know who he has showed intrest in?

Don't kid yourself. I don't know if he said it publicly or not, but I thought Lou wanted him back. But besides that, I just hate it when Devils players jump to the Rangers. It becomes a huge distraction when we play them. (And yes, I do realize he was on NYR before he came to us.) adavid
Heck, wait it out Lou. Maybe we can grab him at the half season mark again.
Devils Pride 26
I don't think we'll hear anything about signing Shanny until Zajac is locked up. Once that gets done Lou knows what he has left to play with in terms of money.
Maddog
Quote from Gulitti's Blog- Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said last week that he was still interested in re-signing Shanahan. The 40-year-old left wing also is interested in returning to New Jersey. I kind of hope he does come back.
overtime98
CMON Lou!!! I can see the Rangers signing him just because the Devils are interested in signing him!! but the Rangers got to have no cap room for Shannys million...... CMON LOU 1 year at 1 million!!! Kulags
i cannot trust jacques lemaire with brendan shanahan. this was the reason i was against signing shanahan last year. so you knew brent sutter was going to leave and be replaced by jacques lemaire all the way back in december? why didn't you tell us??? the lemaire hatred around here is starting to disgust me. i think the deception (not perception) that he "hates offense" and is incapable of adapting to the newer version of this team is absolutely overblown. all of you in that camp are not giving the man enough credit or respect. IMHO I can see Shanahan flourishing under Lemaire. But hey, I can't see the future like Tri can, so what do I know?
BlueSkirt
I think we saw last year what he brings. A high level of skill, relative to much of the rest of our squad, and incredible heart as shown in the playoffs. Most would prolly see him as a PP specialist. He did score 3 goals in his first 5 games, and then only 4 more over the remaining 29 games. And no PP goals during those 29 ! 30 PIM in 34 games also. So statistically it does not show much, and he may bring intangibles. Similar to Weekes, he is a guy that is easy to like.... Yet, I think it's best to move on. But hey, I can't see the future like Tri can, so what do I know? this is a pretty deliberate misreading of what i said, although i have to admit i wasn't clear. why i didn't want shanahan signed last year is because he was shot in the playoffs for the rangers as a result of overuse. the devils used him intelligently for the first few weeks, but quickly moved his ice time up to unacceptable levels. given jacques lemaire's usage of bobby carpenter in 1998, lou has to leave jacques with as little chance to hurt himself by completely overusing a veteran player - he already avoided part of this problem by not re-signing madden. if shanahan were a 12 minute, 4th line, PP type of player, who sat out all the back to backs - fine. if he's again a 17 minute, PK, PP, does it all - it will be a disaster, mitigated by the fact that new jersey fans inexplicably went nuts when shanahan would rush down ice, or by the exceptionally smart and creative plays shanahan will occasionally display. MantaRay
If that friggen guy signs with the Rangers! ... It would be our fault. It would be because we showed him no interest. Don't kid yourself. That is just laughable. Marty you should know better. Shanahan was jettisoned by Sather who toyed with him all season until we signed him. The Rangers are in no position to sign him, he is just using this as a negotiating ploy.
