haha me and chiamara were just arguing over this yesterday, with me on the negative side. certainly can't hurt, and if he slips through waivers he'd be huge in lowell. i'm surprised he would choose here - as i said yesterday, murphy seems a little too similar to andy greene. didn't realize he's a right handed shot though.

Props to you and Chi for calling this one. Although he gets more credit :)

He is a little older.... I think he is going to be given all the opportunity in the world to make NJ but is likely going to Lowell...

-4 last year playing for Panthers/Lightning... not to bad.

i actually doubt he goes to lowell - i don't think he'd make it through waivers. i think he's a 6th/7th D. he enables the devils to send jay leach to lowell for depth there. leach looked okay when he was up here, but he doesn't do anything special at all - murphy is at least a PP specialist.

also 731 should be pumped, he's wanted this guy for a year and a half now.

I don't know if I'm "pumped" but I definitely think it's a good move. The Devils get a second guy who be the big shot on a PP unit and it looks like they got him cheap since getting a 2 way suggests Murphy had little leverage.

If Murphy's defense isn't good enough to play then it's no problem losing him but if he can stay healthy and keeps his defensive mistakes to a reasonable amount then he becomes the teams best offensive defenseman, IMO. Greene's defense better have improved a good amount or I would definitely think Murphy would beat Greene out for his slot. Of course Murphy can't ever stay healthy so Greene will play there either way at some point.

I hope this doesn't block Corrente.

oduya, martin, white, mottau, salvador have guaranteed spots. unless im forgetting someone that leaves murphy, greene and whomever else to fight for the last spot.. i wouldn't be surprised if murphy wins the last spot and greene is the extra, pushing corrente to another year in lowell.

hey nmigy you think the Devils will start calling this Murphy their forward of the future only to put him back at defense later in the season because he obviously couldn't play forward... God damn Mets

HAH. You know, last night in that "Who's left" thread when I was talking about Murphy, I thought about him on the Devils. I dismissed it, though, with the Devils re-upping Andy Greene.

Oh, Lou. You're a crafty one. Good call, Tri - I didn't see your response to my post in that thread until just now.

haha, i added that after murphy was signed, i never thought he'd sign here.

one hopes he is good at setting up brian rolston.

Lou is tearing it up this off-season!

Yes he is, but not by overpaying for UFA's like 99 percent of the UFA's get every single offseason.

I, for one, used to be mad that the Sabres did not sign big ticket UFA's...no more....almost every single big UFA signing back since the lockout has only duplicated or fallen short of what that player did before getting the huge $.

Stay the course is the best way to go...draft well, make good trades, stay under the cap a bit to have flexibility for the trade deadline.

I sure miss your semi-annual posts from March & July about the Sabres lack of action. They were classic rants.
