LOTCB
Yes he is, but not by overpaying for UFA's like 99 percent of the UFA's get every single offseason. I, for one, used to be mad that the Sabres did not sign big ticket UFA's...no more.... I sure miss your semi-annual posts from March & July about the Sabres lack of action. They were classic rants. I don't miss the rage it caused me LOL.... I just wised up: Buffalo is one of the least desirable places to play in the NHL...what are the selling points: Anchor Bar wings? I love the city, but let's be real here...plus, UFA signings do NOT guarantee anything (see Rangers)

GOLDJR41
Don't be suprised if you see 1 of our "guaranteed" top 5 defensemen traded for a forward. Or potentially Greene placed in a deal for a forward. I think that is more likely than a lot of people are thinnking.
Colorado Rockies 1976
Yes he is, but not by overpaying for UFA's like 99 percent of the UFA's get every single offseason. I, for one, used to be mad that the Sabres did not sign big ticket UFA's...no more....almost every single big UFA signing back since the lockout has only duplicated or fallen short of what that player did before getting the huge $. Stay the course is the best way to go...draft well, make good trades, stay under the cap a bit to have flexibility for the trade deadline. I've gone into this before, but what so many GMs, in all sports, fail to understand (see Sather, Glen) is that paying a good player superstar dollars rarely (VERY rarely) leads to superstar performance. As poor, intellectually limited Scott "the Devils didn't use me right" Gomez found, signing your name and doing radio interviews and press conferences constitutes the easy part of signing a big free-agent contract. Living up to expectations and the actual value of the contract is something else entirely.
Triumph
Murphy had one of the best CORSI numbers on Tampa as well, -8 in 24 games.

I love this signing. It's cheap, low risk/high reward. If he can help out the PP as specialist and still be effective playing on the 5th or 6th pairing he can be very helpful to the devils. He's been on some terrible defensive teams before, so maybe in NJ the system will make his job on the defensive end much easier. If not then he can dominate in Lowell. Devils Pride 26
You know, I'm not to sure about this. Martin, Oduya, White, Salvador, and Mottau are the 5 guys that are should make the team. That leaves Greene, Murph, and Corrente for the 6th and 7th spots. You would think Greene would make it because he signed that 2 year deal. If we could trade one of Salvador or Mottau for anything I think it would work better. I will be pissed if a 31 year old Murphy blocks Corrente this year. We need to start playing some prospects and finding out if they'll have a future here or not.

Jerseydevils0324
I really hope Cory gets a legit shot at making the team. I believe Corrente could use another year of tuning in Lowell especially since Scotty Stevens is a part of the Lowell staff now and can hopefully develop Corrente along the way, it couldn't hurt. I also think that Murphy is better than both Greene and Mottau.

Plus, there is no need to rush Corrente if he isn't one of the top 6 d-men in the organization.

insanity_gallops
Don't think I saw it in here, but my apologies if this is repeat information. TG reports Murphy's deal is worth $500k at the NHL level. That's a damn fine price tag for a low risk/high reward player of Murphy's caliber.
