Veterans, too, for that matter. The 25-year-old appears ready to make last season's breakout year look like a prelude to even bigger things. He has been the standout of training camp, where he doesn't even get to fully use his trademark aggression. "I really worked hard this summer. I hope they've noticed," said Clarkson, another in the Devils' great line of never-drafted free-agent signings. "I feel it's going to be a breakout year for me, if given the opportunity." xxchaznjxx
i was wrong about clarkie. i never thought he'd be more than a 3rd line, mckay like player, but he seems like he could pot us 20-25 this year and still keep that edge. i hope this means he'll fight a little less, letting peters or pl3 handle most of that now. Prucenterrules
A line of Rolston-Zubrus-Clarkson could be a pretty effective line. They'd be very hard to knock off the puck because of their size, their fast, and they can cycle the puck and get good chances.

I like that line too, unfortunately that doesn't help us once Elias is back. Do we swap out Zubby with Patty?
Vic Rattlehead18
I like that line too, unfortunately that doesn't help us once Elias is back. Do we swap out Zubby with Patty? I hope so. Once Lou said he wants to give Clarkson more ice time, I assumed that meant taking Gio's place on the 2nd line. But not too sure now with Shanahan, who Lou also wants to give more ice time to. SS-SS
I am really happy about Clarky...he deserve to get a lot of time and he also deserve to see more than only 3rd line action...he works so hard every game. He is one of the 4 players that I've loved in this training camp with Murphy,Bergfors and Rollie.
Devils731
Clarkson had 3, I think, really tough deflection opportunities that he got his stick on every time. None of them went in, in fact they all might have missed the net, but just getting piece of the shots the way they came was impressive and bodes well for him. Devils Pride 26
I'm excited to see what happens with the 2nd/3rd lines. Rolston and Elias on the 2nd with Shanny and Zubrus on the 3rd with two LWs; Clarkson and Bergfors. Both have different skills sets and can hopefully bring out the best in which ever lines they are on. I also like it because over a long season Clarkson tends to get into streches of playing like he's a Parise and forgeting to pass the puck, Lemaire can remind him real fast by switching around the lines. There's an example of why hiring Lemaire was a good decision by Lou.

Yup, Clarkson's definitely a "Darcy Tucker" type ... 20+ G, 100+ PIM per year easily.
nmigliore
I hope so. Once Lou said he wants to give Clarkson more ice time, I assumed that meant taking Gio's place on the 2nd line. But not too sure now with Shanahan, who Lou also wants to give more ice time to. There is no way Shanny gets 2nd-line minutes. brickwall30
I feel like it might not be the worst idea to have clarkson usually on the 2nd with patty and rolston, because he's gonna fight from time to time. its just the type of player he is, and those 5 minutes streches would make a nice slot of time for bergfors to jump up a line for a bit and test his skills with better playmakers. Devs4LIFE
Clarkson probably could play second line RW but I'm not sure if he's ready to consistently have that responsibility.
nyrsuck26
I like Clarkson on the 2nd line with Rolston and Elias. He adds a lot of scrappinesss to a line that is mostly finesse. He will get a lot of deflection and rebound goals standing in front of the net with the power shot of Rolston and Elias' accuracy.
DEV1LDR1VER
Sheriff Clarkson is all heart and delivered beyond expectaions last year. He will be a fan favorite.
mouse
I like that line too, unfortunately that doesn't help us once Elias is back. Do we swap out Zubby with Patty? I wouldn't mind easing Elias back gently from the injury. A couple weeks of Shanny-Elias-Bergfors wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. If Shanny and Elias rub off well on the kid he could be a big time player down the stretch, and when Elias gets his legs under him Lemaire can shuffle the lines. I like leaving Clarkie with Zubbie no matter what because Zubbie seems to play his best hockey on a physical line. One of the few bright spots in the hellish Rags series was the Rupp-Zubbie-Clarkie line.
