HellOnICE
Good 2 points. These are the point they need to get with Elias out of the lineup, and so on... But in perspective they beat a well traveled Florida team who looked dead. On to Monday.
nyrsuck26
The defense looks SO MUCH BETTER. Our boys are tuning up! I hope so, but I think the fact that the opposition was the Panthers had something to do with it. sokar
good win but we are going to have to play better than that to beat teams like Washington
Prucenterrules
Nice win by the Devils tonight. Marty was absolutely great tonight. He looked like vintage Brodeur. The Defense was solid again tonight. I like what Andy Greene has been doing. The forwards are starting to create some good plays. We could have easily scored 6 goals tonight. My first GDT and i'm 1-0.
sameblood
I hope so, but I think the fact that the opposition was the Panthers had something to do with it. Maybe it made it slightly easier, but I'm comparing it to our first three games. We were doing things tonight that we hadn't been doing, like blocking more shots and such. Are we ready to win the cup? No, but we have definitely, without a doubt in my mind, improved. Edited October 11, 2009 by sameblood
DevilMinder
Another vote for Greene, he was all over in the second period. Langs had some chances tonight that he could potentially bury in the future.
Devils731
Greene's offense was good but he was lost a few times in the defensive zone, but that's been a problem for most of the defenseman with the new system.
Triumph
against washington this is 5 goals against. tomas vokoun is a splendid goaltender, jose theodore is a leaky sieve. devils played extremely well, this is a winning effort a huge % of the time against anyone. ZeroGravityFat
greene versus green on monday, let's see who gets more points. hahaha
Toaster13
Nice win by the Devils! Now we focus on Monday night vs. the Caps. I have to say signing Nieds was a great deal. Also Zajac has been playing very well so far this season. Now I'm hoping for Parise to combust soon.
Vic Rattlehead18
Zajac is our current iron man. This has nothing to do with anything.
Triumph
how could anyone call tonight's game 'sloppy'? the devils had like 2 breakdowns, both of which led to goals. they weren't 6 shots against perfect but they had an outstanding game. Toaster13
Wow, only 3 pages? I've seen preseason games have more than 3 pages by the end of the first period! Yea, this is a pretty weak GDT.
Devils731
Yea, this is a pretty weak GDT. It's probably a combination of it being the weekend, an unexciting opponent, and Devils fans are jaded and like to complain about losses more than celebrate wins because the wins are expected. Cowutopia
I was at work. Caught the last period, pissed that the replay is Devils in 60. I need to get a DVR. Win though, and gave up a low shot count. Unnerving how we almost blew another game late, but we succeeded where the Isles failed (lost a 3-0 lead with 11 to go in the third.) Go Devils! Devil Fan
wow, can't believe that Niedermayer is second in G scoring so far while leading the team in +/-. Keep it up, Rob and silent all doubters (including me).
Par9
3 things... 1. Marty was solid and played great. 2. Zajac is really developing into a great center. 3. Anyone else finding the Nieds signing very underrated.
Devils731
They beat a less-than-decent Panthers team because of a goal with under 5 minutes left. Far from outstanding. They outchanced Florida probably at a 3 to 1 clip, that's good versus any team.
NJDevs4978
Another good game for Andy Green...maybe Lemaire will be his Padron.... Can't say how great an acquisition Special Neids was... Between Greene, Pandolfo and Robbie Nieds all looking like they have an offensive pulse, maybe Lemaire really was serious about a more up-tempo game Sure didn't hurt tonight, they were outstanding in everything but the score. Only the Oduya screwup on the second goal was a real black mark
SatansDevils
Nice win by the Devils tonight to even up their record at 2-2. Brodeur played well to get the win. Nice goals by Niedermayer, Zajac and Clarkson with the GWG late in the 3rd on the PP that went 2-9. It should have been a blowout by the Devils tonight, but Vokoun kept them in the game. Devils with 41 SOG in the game. Got the win and the two points for the sweep in Florida.

Devils Pride 26
The fourth line does nothing. However, doing nothing is not bad enough to satisfy them, they are hellbent on taking as many penalties as possible. For producing nothing, that is awful. I don't know how often they take penalties but for the time on ice they get, they shouldn't have half the penalties they have. It seems 3rd shift they take they're taking a penalty. Unacceptable. I was complaining about the system last game, this game we clearly dominated them in shots and time of possesion but I wonder how much of that had to do with us just being better man for man. Florida, while being a good team to work the kinks out against, isn't much of a measuring stick for us. Regardless, the Robbie Nieds goal was directly a product of the system with Paul Martin carrying the puck in and taking a chance. Speaking of, Nieds is a huge improvement over Madden's play last year and seems to be getting the most out of Pando. However counting on Nieds to score goals is not something winning teams should do for a whole year. Another thing I noticed about the system and the pzl line. Maybe it's just me, but White and Mottau seem to be out a lot when pzl is. The problem with that is you have 5 guys out on the ice, and nobody out there is great at bring the puck into the zone and setting up. I mentioned in chat, I would like to see Greene (with Sal) out there with pzl more, beacuse Greene is someone who could get these guys the puck. Of course this isn't soemthing you want to happen every time, having certain D pairs out with offensive lines is something not a lot of teams do. Notice that I didn't say Martin and Oduya because to have your best 5 out there is not good for the next linewith a tired Oduya and Martin. Sickman
how could anyone call tonight's game 'sloppy'? the devils had like 2 breakdowns, both of which led to goals. they weren't 6 shots against perfect but they had an outstanding game. Truth. This was a very nice win for the Devils. Had they had a little better finish it would have never been as close as it looked on the score board. PZL is doing well. Zajac is obviously carrying the load at the moment but they are playing well as a line. Its only a matter of time before Parise gets going. Some people mocked the line changes but they were good for at least tonight. Clarkson does not belong on the 4th line but I don't think Lemaire is looking at it as a 4th line. Putting Clarkson there automatically makes the line serviceable which would be a first for this young season. They were not perfect but it was nice to see some contribution from the 4th line tonight. Brodeur was sharp. His game is coming together nicely. I want to give kudos to Andy Greene. I know I have said some less then flattering things about him from time to time but that is mostly because he is a frustrating player. He can be either be really good or be really bad. One thing for sure is that the kid can come in to the lineup and do pretty well even after sitting a number of games. He shows flashes sometimes and one day it would be nice to see him put it all together. Whatever the case he has a role on this team without question. Niedermayer chipped in again. He was open for so long on his goal but nevertheless he scored a big goal tonight. He just looks like a solid player and a really good fit for this team. Even after 4 games, pretty good all things considered. Edited October 11, 2009 by SickMan
devils26
I only saw the end of the game, but it's good to see the team not give up even when running into a very good goalie. I also liked the way that even after giving up a pretty sh!tty goal to tie the game at 2, the kept moving its feet to draw a penalty and then eventually capitalized. Granted, Florida did not look too good tonight, but some things happened in this game that are great to see against any NHL team. BTW, I hope it's just Oduya getting off to a bad start and not something more serious. He's look pretty uncomfortable on the ice so far. Brodeur was sharp. His game is coming together nicely. Yeah, I think he might turn out to be a pretty decent goalie.
