Greene impresses Lemaire

I was right in the aspect that I thought Greene would be better then Oduya (still early) but wrong in thinking NJ would trade Greene when Fraser was healthy. Greene has tremendous hockey sense and is a good skater. Match that up with a canon from the point and you have a decent #4 defensmen. Yes, he will be a #4 by seasons end even if he is getting weak minutes now.

Not sure if I believe it, but I want to!

(Cannon from the point? You sure you're not thinking of Rolston?)

Either way, I'll drink to this. :koolaid::cheers:

and richard jackman still has a chance

c'mon now. greene is 26, it's not still early, greene's like perfect world upside is johnny oduya. he does not have a cannon from the point; skills competitions do not measure anything.

Defensemen take longer to develop, you know that!

And why not... we use skills competitions to determine winners and losers in NHL games after all right??

Soooo....A radar gun does not determine how powerful a players shot is? I guess using numbers like goals does so. Greene got a late start to his pro career and has yet to be given a chance at some minutes. He has all the tools to put up a good amount of points at the NHL level.

no, it doesn't, because it's not in game conditions - colin white can get off a 90 MPH slapper too, it doesn't mean he's all of the sudden some great goal scorer. andy greene has never been a goal scorer at college or in the pros, he's not a goal scorer. he's also been given lots of chances at minutes, and the tools he has always lacked is decision making, which is why he's been off and on the power play for years - he doesn't move the puck or shoot it quickly enough. so far he's looking like he's beaten some of that - we'll see if he keeps it up.

How many Norris trophies did Iafrate win?

Shot speed isn't everything, you still have to defend.

I have no problem admiting that Greene looks better this year, projecting him a top 4 is pure wet dream fantasy that some here are waiting for....never happen.

Saying someone has "a canon from the point" is not calling them a "goal scorer". Rolston is a perfect example so far this year. He has a hell of a shot but it never hits the net. Since he isn't scoring those shots, does that no longer make him a goal scorer? Cause what you just said seems like only goal scorers can have fast slappers.

Did I say he was a Norris winner because of his shot, I said its something he has. I said he will be a #4 by seasons end and I stand by it. He was one of the top two way defensmen in college, he was an all star in the AHL and with a little confidence he will be a solid NHL everyday defensmen.

he was an all-star on a terrible AHL team that had no one else to award it to. jiri bicek was an AHL all-star multiple times. the problem is that there's 150 games or so that suggest that andy greene is little more than a back-pairing defender with some power play skill. time will tell.

Solid everyday defenseman to ME...implies a servicable back pair guy

#4 implies someone who warrants a contract that makes Sal, White, or Oduya money.... say $2-3M

Which is it?

At some point in the future I think he will be a 2 million dollar defensmen. I really expect a 30 point season from Greene.

I wish Andy Greene was Al Iafrate. But your point is well taken. Al was a very good player, but mostly on the offensive end of the ice.

So everyone likes Greene now cause of that one nice chance he had in the Carolina game?

That's really all it takes?

I've been pro-Greene since his first shot with the team back in the 07 season and playoffs :P

It takes more time for a defenseman to develop and learn tendencies of other players then forwards, and he'll only be 27 next week... he's about that time where he's gonna come into his own now
