Devils731
http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/fireice/comments/lamoriello_white_should_be_ok_no_roster_moves_yet/ Halischuk did not have to clear waivers, so that probably hurt his chances of remaining with the big club. Rookie right wing Vladimir Zharkov
pattyelias
Good for Zharkov. I feel bad for Halischuk but he look like he needs some time down on the farm. He'll be challenging for a roster spot soon enough.
Triumph
wow, i'm rather surprised. of course halischuk is better than pandolfo so... yeah.
devilsrule33
Peters and PL3 with the big club over Halischuk. Fantastic. I'd rather have Matt up than Pandolfo anyway. It's a shame since Matt was really picking his game up.

It's a shame since Matt was really picking his game up. not a concern, since the ice time they get isn't what he needs. if halischuk isn't playing in the top 9, he shouldn't be here. the only reason he was here was the injury to elias, and now the devils added another forward for those contingencies (mcammond). Triumph
And right now you wouldn't want Halischuk playing on the 3rd line over Pandolfo? oh i would, but i think it's closer than at first glance - it's not like halischuk is creating all of this offense, he still only has 2 points. The two points do look like nothing, but he's really picked up his game after not looking good for ten games. He's gotten some serious chances the last few games. The rookie was snake-bitten. Didn't he have 3 posts against the Islanders? I just really liked the the Zharkov-McAmmond-Halischuk line and thought they were a threat to score. A 4th line of Pandolfo-Niedermayer and Pelley/Pikkarainen wouldn't have been bad either.

Yeah I really don't get the hemming and hawing...those two points have come in 20 games and it's not like he's gotten half a minute of icetime a game. Well okay I do get it, Halischuk's a prospect. If he was a retread or import we'd be grading him on a harsher curve. Even given that, he's only 21, he still has time to develop. Sending him down isn't the worst thing in the world. Look at Bergfors, he spent four years in the AHL and he's ready now. The Devils don't rush prospects. Zharkov looks a bit closer to being ready than Halischuk anyway and he's still here. As for the Pando bashing I actually wouldn't mind if he played PK time and either reduced the icetime of the top forwards (at least in the regular season) or freed them up to play a few more minutes even-strength and power play if neccesary. Because we're playing the top forwards almost Tortorella-like icetimes right now, since Zajac and Langs are among the primary PK'ers. Do I like having Peters and PL3 around, well no but I'm a realist...they aren't going to admit a million dollar mistake this quickly. Pandolfo didn't look bad before he was injured. I say give him a shot on the third line. Paying 2.5 mil for a fourth liner is a little too Ranger-y for my tastes. Triumph
agree with Has that getting parise off the penalty kill is of large importance right now, which at least pandolfo accomplishes.
hystyk28
I agree with most in this thread. Peters and PL3 are a colossal waste of resources. Out of anyone getting sent down, based strictly on play should be Pikkarainen. I don't disagree Hal 2000 won't benefit from the assignment though. Both Hal and Corrente are real bright spots once they get acclimated with the NHL game better. Not mention Corrente actually drops the gloves. Props to Fraser last night for chucking some hands as well. Any chance of Johnny Mac coming tonight?
sundstrom
i've said it before, but this seems like a good time to reiterate - what we're seeing now is not what we'll see come april - figure parise-zajac-langenbrunner elias-zubrus-rolston bergfors-mccamond-clarkson pandolfo-neidermayer-pikkareinen i don't think pelley, peters, pl3 are even near the roster - lou will likely make some sort of move to push either one of the other 4th line P's into the 13th F role anyway. if zharkov continues his play, its possible he actually stays but that means the devils reshuffle to: parise-zajac-langenbrunner rolston-elias-bergfors zharkov-zubrus-clarkson pandolfo-neidermayer-mccamond and i wouldn't cry for halischuk (nor zharkov should he go down later) - both of these guys will make the team next year for sure. sundstrom
. Not mention Corrente actually drops the gloves. Props to Fraser last night for chucking some hands as well. really belongs in the peters thread but i noticed this too - both of these guys threw down as soon as it was necessary. instances have been there for peters to do the same and it just hasn't materialized. assuming martin is re-signed (no guarantee), i think corrente/fraser are 6-7 next year and mottau is not brought back simply b/c of numbers - these guys have to make the team eventually and mottau has likely made played his way to a 3 year deal netting him 1.8-2.2MM from someone. while it's true his points aren't there this year, his 3 year track record shows he's clearly an NHL regular defenseman that can fill in on the PP and has a decent first pass. Cowutopia
I like this, I'd like to see more Zharkov for a few games.
TheIceDog
Not sold on McAmmond, Fraser or Mottau for that matter. Like to see more of Corrente and Zharkov at the NHL level as I believe that those two will be big club players. As always, it's a numbers game but the Devils are in a decent position cap wise. DH26
I like this, I'd like to see more Zharkov for a few games. me too. We've seen enough of Halischuk so far, let's get Vlad some more time
mouse
Not sold on Mottau I've bashed Mottau a lot, but how could you not be sold on him? He's been great with the injuries. He's not as talented as Greene (shocking), Martin or Oduya, but I have no problem whatsoever with having him on the ice. I'd like to see him and White split up when Martin gets back, cause I think White needs to be with somebody faster. That should help Motts as well.
