This year, it's really impossible to say.. with so many teams already over budget, I'd say that a lot more players will stick with their current teams than usual.. I think a lot of teams will be interested in lower budget players like Calle Johansson and Don Sweeney rather than Leetch and Hatcher.. but it's not like 5 years ago where I could see a hole on a big-budget team that they would look to fill through free agency.

Out of our Group III's, I pray that we can sign Nieuwendyk, and hopefully Rheaume. I wouldn't be suprised to see Albelin retire, but retaining him for another year wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Dano will retire, and Smehlik better be gone.

I'm still not sold on McKenzie, but I wouldn't be suprised to see Lamoriello throw a deal at him, since he's a character guy. I personally think it's time to move on without him, but that's just me...

I think the Ducks will dump Giguere cause he didn't bring home the Cup. ;)

But I think the league's desire to not overpay this year could go a long way to helping us with Nieuwy. Or maybe I'm just hoping that that's the case.

If we sign Nieuwy, then either McKenzie or Rheaume probably wouldn't be re-signed. And I'm guessing it would be Jimmy, cause of Rheaume's help on the PK and the faceoff circle. Then again, with Rupp on his way, that could be wrong as well.

Robitaille will probably go to Florida, or back to LA

Thomas might go back to Toronto for 1 more shot at the Cup

Gilmour & Muller should retire, they probably won't though.

Rangers will resign Matteau for the 10 year anniversary

I've heard rumors that Forsberg might retire or go play in Sweden

DALLAS

Ulf Dahlen, (III) He is expected to retire

Derian Hatcher, (III) Very good chance he's on the move

Kirk Muller, (III) Prolly wont stay in Dallas, though I really like him

Lyle Odelein, (III) Won't stay I don't think

Richard Matvichuk, (II) They will be looking to trade him. Though I think it's just one bad year but Stars are having huge money problems and could get rid of him.

Stephane Robidas, (II) I think they will TRY to sign him

Marty Turco, (II) He will get a huge raise

Both Hatcher and Turco's pay is hurting the Stars alot it's really sad to see what is going on with that team right now. They are in alot of money trouble. Not to say it's all of Turgeon's fault but it sure has made it worse. The rumors about Guerin being traded are true we found out today. His agent told the DMN that the Stars and him have been talking about a possible trade. It would be very sad if they lose both Guerin and Hatcher this summer. I am wondering if the report on Guerin's leg is not looking good thats why they chose him to be in a trade.

What's up with the places and the dates?

Swede, those appear to be updates - signings or retirements since the end of the season.

Also, did anyone else notice how whoever this guy is who compiled the list (I lifted it from spectors) termed the group fours (IV) as sixes (VI). It's little things like that that irk me sometimes, petty of me, I know, but, still part of my personality.

My thoughts, unless nieuwendyk is taking a deep pay cut, he'll be playing elsewhere next year. As will mckenzie, rheume and albi. Smehlik, if affordable, may be kept around as the number 6, depending on plans for tevordnoski. The albany kids will get to compete for the #6 and #7 spots, (and possibly push smehlik out).

Forsberg will do a one year deal with colorado, then go to europe when the labor lockout kicks in after next season.

Hacket will sign on with colorado or philly.

Federov is in trouble if he really did turn down a 4 yr. $40 mil deal, he won't get anything better than that.

McCarty could be a steal for a team like san jose to grab. I could see ottawa making a bid for him too (depending on the new owners plans for payroll budgets)

Arvedson will clean up this year.

The rangers will overpay at least 2 people whose careers ended over the last 3 years. and they'll fork over phat money to leetch.

And needless to say, there are a ton of guys on this list who should just retire.

They won't of course, since everyone figures on a long lockout after next season, so they'll get one last year in, then retire.

I could see the Rangers going after Arvedson: he sucks, and the Rangers like soft European left wings. I believe he won a Selke Trophy, but I have never liked Arvedson's game.. he is very unremarkable in the playoffs.

McCarty won't be a bargain for anyone, he's the type of player that will get 2.5 to 3 million and isn't worth that kind of money. Another character guy overrated by the fact that he's in a Wings jersey. Notice the trend: Avs, Devils, and Wings almost always command more on the UFA market than guys from any other team, and other teams who have signed them have made huge mistakes.. just look at the busts.. Uwe Krupp, Martin Lapointe, Valeri Kamensky, Theo Fleury, Vladimir Malakhov, Bobby Holik, Claude Lemieux, Sylvain Lefebrve, Sean O'Donnell, Igor Larionov.

Fedorov could get another year at 10 million, but as you rightly say, I doubt it. What is perhaps more likely is him receiving more money up front; a team fearful of possible salary caps after the labor disagreement, could give him 20 million this year and 5 million in subsequent seasons.

Nieuwendyk will remain a Devil, but for reduced price. Albelin stays or retires. Rheaume stays, but does not play every game next season. Smehlik is gone unless he wants to take a huge pay cut. McKenzie stays.

There will be 15 players of UFA age who will be watching the beginning of this season at home on television.

I still think there's an 80-90% chance Nieuwy goes elsewhere. Yes, teams are wary of offering big contracts these days, but someone will most certainly offer a bigger contract for him than the 2 year $4.5 million Lou will offer.

Rheaume is pretty much a lock to stay. No team will overpay for a 4th line center, and he likes it here.

All the Devs UFA defenseman are gone. Dano is retiring, and Albelien most likely will too, although it wouldn't surprise me if Lou convinces him to sign for another year. Does Smehlik have a player or team option?

Like always, it's highly unlikely anbody outside the organization is signed. However, if the price is good I could see Lou offering a contract to Johansson.

so hatcher's not getting a contract offer... trauma for him...or not

Probably . . . he came up with Dallas, he's been the Captain since '95 (?), but he's also been making noises about how he'd love to play in Detroit, close to home & family, yada yada yada. Who can say?

Stars have announced that they will not make Hatcher a contract offer before July 1.

I just heard on the news that they wont offer him a 5 year contract at all. So if Hatcher wants to stay in Dallas he will have to have a shorter and cheaper contract. Plus they said they may keep Mattvichuck which imo is a good choice but theres going to be some pissed off people.

It would be interesting to see what happens with Hatcher. He is the ONLY player out there who would make an immediate impact on any team. He might be the only free agent who is actually courted with any team that actually has money.

Columbus has money and would turn that franchise around.
