DevilNurn
Well with all this talk of trading Langenbrunner, I will say this: the most notable thing about Lags is that he scores key goals. So he's clutch in the playoffs. So with all the regular season sh!t, he'll be worth keeping around.

maxpower
I sorta called it. He wanted to play all 82. http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/fireice/devils_captain_jamie_langenbrunner_breaks_his_silence/ edit: he also comes across a little bitchy and uncaptain-like here. I understand since he's getting a day off, he shouldn't have to go to Raleigh, but you are kinda the Captain of the team. cubanjd305
I LOVE the route this thread has gone in the past 24 hours. Rolston as Roger Dorn might be the best, most apt comparison anyone here's ever come up with. Not really....Dorn started playing better after that speech. There's no speech that'll make Dornston try harder

thelastonealive
Mrs. Rolston needs to seduce an unknowing David "Wild Thing" Clarkson. THEN Winky might wake the frick up. YES! And then, if we're watching the edited-for-cable version, Rolston will walk up to Clarkson before a fight and say something like: "Knock (in a different voice) this guy (in regular voice) OUT!" This thread also brings up another question... ...who's Cerrano?

DaneykoIsGod
This thread also brings up another question... ...who's Cerrano? I'm really hoping the Major League parallels begin and end with Rolston/Dorn. Otherwise, Jeff Vanderbeek is trying to move the team to Florida, Lemaire was selling tires last year and next year they'll replace Salvador with Fraser and hope no one notices. Not to mention what it would be like if Rolston tries buying the team. Yikes.

I'm talking about being an adult and leading by example. This whole situation is really lame and more something I would expect out of say, a Bergfors type player than a long-time veteran captain of an NHL team. Not a fan of the coach, but this is a situation where Lou should lay the smackdown and say enough of this sh!t.

PaDevsFan
Why can't he scratch Niedermayer? Elias is already playing center, you can play Zubrus at center for a game. If anything he probably needs the rest before the playoffs like some other regulars have gotten as well. Because he said so ... enough said. (dont argue)
RowdyFan42
Disregarding the Major League fun for a minute... If it was earlier in the season, I'd probably tell Jamie to shut up and get back to work. However, at this late stage, I'm on his side. You guys keep saying "you're the captain, act like it"; well, it goes the other way, too. Lemaire needs to have a little bit more consideration for his captain than he has apparently shown here. The least Jacques could have done was talk to his captain about it beforehand; if it was really all about giving Jamie the night off, couldn't he have said "hey, I think you need a night off, how about it?" And why did he make him travel down to Raleigh for the game (the team came back home afterwards, they didn't stay down there over Easter before moving on to Atlanta) if he knew he wasn't playing and it wasn't for punishment reasons? Now, I know you're going to say, "why should Jacques do any of that, he's the coach, they're the players, what he says goes, they shouldn't be dictating their playing time." Normally I'd agree with you, but there's an elephant in the room: Martin Brodeur. Jacques (and his predecessors) have allowed Marty to dictate if and when he sits for years with very rare exceptions. It's unfair and quite a bit hypocritical to give Marty free reign and not provide the same consideration to your other veteran players, especially your captain, in certain situations. Obviously I'm not arguing that the inmates should run the asylum, but if you're not going to play your captain in a late-season road game for which you're only traveling from home to there and back again, I think the least you can do as a coach is a) give him a heads-up and b) also give him the option of not having to travel simply to sit in the press box. I think part of making him fly down, was because the coaches weren't sure if Zubrous was able to play. I'm guessing if Zubrous couldn't go Jaime was in. CRASHER
Now, I know you're going to say, "why should Jacques do any of that, he's the coach, they're the players, what he says goes, they shouldn't be dictating their playing time." Gonna agree there, I'd think any player who's gonna be a healthy scratch deserves a few minutes with the coaches to explain what and why they're being sat (well except Peters, screw him )..... it's a RESPECT thing.... and maybe some of our younger players (re: Bergfors) would not have their confidence eff'ed with if they knew why.... if I'm wrong and Lemaire did this with the other guys then it's even STRANGER he'd not sit down with his captain and did the same......
