Devils' Zach Parise: I don't need or want to sit out a game

Zach Parise isn't interested in sitting out one of the final two games of the regular season.

A rest? The 25-year-old left winger says he doesn't need one.

"I don't think I need it, personally," Parise said after Thursday's optional morning skate in which he participated. "I had yesterday off. I don't think I need it. I don't want it.

"I guess if he thinks I need it, maybe, but if he asks for my opinion I would say no.I want to make sure that I'm at the top of my game for the playoffs."

Parise has played in 78 of the Devils' 79 games, as well as the Olympics in Vancouver.

It is possible that Sunday's home game against the Buffalo Sabres could be meaningless, which might prompt Lemaire to rest goalie Martin Brodeur. But what about Parise?

"We'll have to think about Saturday and Sunday," Lemaire said of the final two games against the Islanders and Sabres. "It will be hard, though.

"Maybe we'll try not to overplay him if he plays the two games. That would be one thing. I think it's up to him to get good rest and good sleep and eat well."

Even if Sunday was meaningless, Parise said he'd prefer not to rest.

"I'd still want to play," he said. "I guess ultimately it would be his decision, but I would want to play. I had yesterday off (from practice). We'll probably have a day off after the regular season. I don't think it's really going to make a difference."

Parise enters Thursday night's game against the Florida Panthers (and former teammate Scott Clemmensen) with 37 goals. He scored 45 last season an would like to reach 40 this season.
