About soccer's one nothing games, no I'm not knocking attendance but a 1-0 hockey game can be way more exciting than a 1 nothing soccer game. More scoring chances, more back and forth play etc. I remember a 0-0 Ranger Devil game that was so dang exciting and ending in an Elias shootout win in the 4th round. A well played game by both teams. That was exciting.

To me at least, soccer seems boring. I may be in the minority on these boards but I just can't get all jacked up about it.

The Devils never do well in polls. The people who answer those polls are Bastard People!

I saw a pool like that last season...where is Kovi going...no one said the devils....EJ got a question on NHL live about if he might come to the devils and his answer was something like lets stick to the realistic teams that might actually sign him

Hey NJay!! I had been trying to write how I appreciated Volchenkov's honesty. Respectful to Ottawa - but it feels like he's happy about being here. I mean -- it's a team with storied defencemen. I

Hiya PK! Hope everything is well.

I love A-Train's honesty too. Like someone else posted a couple pages back, if Lou only signed NJ first-choicers we'd have a team full of Rolstons, Brylins and Mottaus (I added that Mottau part).

First, second, third, seventh choice. Doesn't matter. He's here and he'll help the tremendously. Like Kovy.

Everybody in the media is a prcik to the Devils. I remember last year when the matchups in the P/O were announced. The ESPN anchors noted which games would be on tv and then they said that the Devs/Canes game would probably just be on radio because it would be a snoozer.

I was a College freshman when Beavis & Butthead first aired. I remember clearly the day i stumbled upon it, because i hadn't watched MTV regularly since i was in, oh, Middle School. From then on, i never missed an episode. That Summer of 1993, it was always to gather at someone's house or Apt. and watch it. New episodes were like must see TV, everything stopped lol. Fun times.

Volchenkov admitted that his first choice was to remain with Ottawa, but the Senators' offer was "not good enough."

So does that mean the people here who say "fvck Kovy for not having NJ be his first choice" will say the same about Volchenkov since his first choice wasn't NJ either?

Some people just don't understand negotiations....sad...

I'm not a pro athlete, so I can't really relate to what it's like to make a decision between 1st choice and 2nd choice teams when picking your destination.

All I know is that if I was earning $13.50 an hour working at burger king as a shift lead (got complimentary meals, health insurance, uniform allowance, raises every so often, flexible hours, job stability, liked my boss, liked my co-workers, and the workplace was close to home, etc.)

...and all of a sudden, McDonalds offers me $15.50 per hour, with most of the same things BK was offering, except for a boss I didn't know, the workplace was further away, no job flexibility, etc..

Then is it really worth the extra $2.00 per hour just to feel "wanted" by McDonalds?

Obviously, Volchenkov didn't care too much about his friends in his family's life (although he claims he will miss them) enough to forgoe 1 or 2 extra million per year. After all, how many millions will essentially make the guy happy? Seriously, hypothetically, what's the big difference if in the course of his career he makes $40 million versus 33.5 million? It's still a sh!t load of money, enough to live comfortably (especially with some smart investing)...so is picking up your family, moving to another country, finding a new school for your kids, etc, all worth the extra $6.5 million you would make in the course of your career?

Maybe for Kovy we're the "McDonalds" offer, or conversely, maybe not. The point is, money isn't everything. It's an illusion, and ultimately, all the factors must make sense in his decision. If you're addicted to money, and the status it brings you, then certainly, this is an important decision.

But, if overall, being a part of a tradition and a legend is important, while making a good share of "coin," then signing for less isn't always bad...

Case and point Martin Brodeur...

Don't know if you remember, but the first couple of episodes were pretty weak...they pulled B&B off the air for a couple of months (or something like that) and improved the writing. After that, the show really took off.

Yeah, it became must-watch TV for a while (I was in my early 20s and living with three other friends, and we piled in front of the TV as soon as it came on). Even my dad thought it was a pretty funny show.

I...always thought B&B was...gasp...stupid.. :noclue: (I can feel the hate coming)

Ranks right up there with ren & stimpy if you ask me in terms of "What the hell am I watching?"-ness

Ren and Stimpy was beyond awesome.

Log, it's Log, it's big it's heavy it's wood! Log It's log, it's better than bad, it's good!

Edit: I lurk like crazy and have been watching this thread since it started. I can't believe it was a Ren and Stimpy reference that finally made me post.

Ren and Stimpy was a big f'n deal when it first appeared. I remember watching an episode with friends and there was nothing like it. Same thing with Beavis and Butthead. I remember the first vignette on Liquid Television, Frog Baseball, my friends and I were rolling. Now because cartoons like that saturate the market they're ho hum except if you remember what it was like to see them fresh.

I never watched Ren and Stimpy -- but I did watch Beavis and Butthead. the WEIRDEST was when my sister and I went with my parents to a huge family reunion and as we were driving my dad says something stupid to my mother in this well... Butthead voice --- then... my mother said in a little gnome voice "cool" and then -- the both started to do the laugh: huhu huhuhu huhuhuhuh.

My sister and I were horrified in the back seat... but it was also a little cool --- in just the WEIRDEST way....because it wasn't for our benefit -- they obviously did this when no one was around merely to amuse themselves.

I was 10 when Beavis & Butthead first aired. There was an episode where they watched a U2 video and they speculated what it was like for Bono's mom to call him home for dinner when he was a kid: "BOOOOONER! TIME FOR DINNER! WE'RE HAVING BEANIES AND WEENIES!" After that, I would randomly start yelling "BOOOOOOONER!" in public. That's when my dad sat me down for the old birds 'n bees talk

I'm almost afraid of the new version. When Red & Stimpy was revived, it was awful. Also, last year Mike Judge put together a little B&B short to promote Extract, and it was painfully unfunny. Fingers are crossed.

First, let me say that I'm not angry at Kovy for NJ not being his first choice, but am certainly dissapointed.

Secondly, the Volchenkov situation doesn't compare because A-Train has played for Ottawa for a long time, Kovy has never played for the kings. Had Volchenkov said, "fvck the Sens, I hated them, can't wait to be in NJ." I would have been a bit unsettled. That he said what said, proves that he can become a very loyal player for the Devils and has good character.
