Steckel is not an offensive player. don't expect some kind of offensive upgrade in his play. he is what he is. bottom six big checking center, who wins faceoffs. not a guy like Madden who is so fast that he can make you pay if you have one little hiccup. I would guess Madden is still significantly faster in his old age

Disagree. We don't know that yet for sure.

Steckel played on a offensively loaded team so he was pretty much relegated to third liner status. He'll probably start on the 3rd line but I'm hoping he clicks with Kovy and Palmieri.

Arnott is still my fav, but you gotta let go.

I don't see how they are in the same spot as before. Josefson is approaching the 10 game limit before he loses a year of his ELC. Mair has been in and mainly out of the lineup recently. Will this move cause Jsoefeson to go down and have them bring up Henrique? Or will they just play Mair? Maybe recall Sestito?

Lots of questions how JL will adjust his lines. And all of this without addressing Tedenbys minute playing time.

Should be interesting to see how they adjust.

all legitimate questions, but all questions that where with the team before the trade. Pencil in Steckel into the 3'rd line center in replace of Arnott. At least thats how I see it.

teddy's minutes depend on how well he plays in his defensive zone(and stays out of the box).

HAHAHAHAHA. TSN guys are now explaining how Arnott started out poorly, like the rest of the team, but is part of why the Devils are so hot now and Arnott really turned it around under Lemaire, like the team did.

Oops, it's actually the exact opposite. Nice experts.

Here is my problem. I understand if they can't watch every game, and why they wouldn't watch the Devils lately given how boring the games are. I get that they wouldn't know much about Arnott, but stop pretending that you do because you'll look dumb to that fanbase. Chances are 29 other teams' fans don't know, but why do you guys have to pretend you know everything. It's alright to say you aren't sure, or at least not have such strong opinions on every matter. Pierre is the worst at this.

GREAT deal. I was happy with it before the draft pick got thrown in (been half-assed following on Twitter while busy doing errands).

No hatred for Arnott, I don't blame him for wanting to go to an obvious contender this late in his career (that's why he came here in the first place, after all). Good luck in Washington, Arny. You're gonna need it. I think Washington's only slightly more likely to win the Cup than the Devils are this year unless one of their kid goalies gets real hot real quick.

Well, and what's worse, is a simple look at the stats sheet shows how ineffective he is. It's not one of those situations where you go, well he has 2 points in 14 games but he's playing really well. It was more like he has 2 points in 14 games and I think that's a fair reflection of his nothing play.

So if you were going to make up how he's been playing, it should have been that he's been playing poor, because that's what the number suggest. We, as Devils fans, also know that he truly has been playing poor.

These guys have connections though, and they're gonna piss some of them off if they go, "Boy, Arnott has sure been playing like crap, I'm not sure why teams are paying a lot for what he did a few years ago." so they just make up a nicer sounding storyline that nobody is really going to call them on.

Not only that, but a lot of the GMs call these guys because they are the most connected people in hockey and watch more than anyone. So, maybe some of these guys are the ones giving the bad advice. But I don't think they have a problem calling a spade a spade if they believe that. I have seen it before. Perhaps a few former coaches don't want to insult a few potential employers though.

I don't even think Manta Ray can find something wrong with this one.

oh if you were in the chat, you'd know manta thought the sky was falling with getting steckel. he thought it was a terrible deal, even with getting the 2nd round pick.

i love the deal. we got a center who wins 60%+ of his faceoffs for his career and we got a 2nd round pick.

Did he mention that Steckel should buy a Mercedes from Ray Catena?

Listening to those commercials on the radio are painful really, Lou sounds robotic trying to read the words off

Oh gtf out of town  I would have happily taken the second-rounder and ran with it, especially with the way Arnott's played this year. To get that and a useful role player back...well I guess he really has become like Randy Quaid in Major League. Nothing we can do is right anymore.

"Unquestionably not even a question."

I love Louspeak.

It wasn't Kovalchuk to Florida for Bergfors. There's one thing he can find wrong with it.

My favorite Lou quote from that interview:

When asked if he believed Arnott when he said it wasa difficult descision, Lou replied, "I do believe Jason. I believe any descision you have is hard. Easy descisions are only malcontent descisions."

I don't know what that means, but I freaking love it!

lol I like this quote from Lou (on Steckel) too:

“We got way back with him,” Lamoriello said. “We interviewed him when he was in junior (with the U.S. developmental team). We certainly knew of him in college (at Ohio State). So, we know of him and what he can bring and what he does bring and we certainly think he has something to offer in all situations and is used in all situations, especially when the game is on the line. And the minutes (11:34 per game) that he’s played (were the result of being) on a team that really has some fine offensive players that take a lot of minutes.”

That sounds so good...you have to agree with him !!!!!

Until Charlie Sheen dressed as Lou finds him in at the Rock and tells him "blow it out your ass, lard mouth."

...and then offers him a hit of 100% pure "Charlie Sheen"

I've watched Steckel the last 4 years in DC and I have a very high opinion of him. He's a role player, defensive forward, faceoff specialist, and penalty killer but he also has a better-than-average set of hands and has a knack for deflecting shots (see OT Game 6 @Pitt 2009).

I like the trade.
