Quinn01
I dont have the game on tv, but is Arnott playing along side of Semin and Sturm?
MDPucks
Arnott with a nice pass out of the corner to Laich to tie the game under in the final minute. Game going to OT.
MDPucks
Ovechkin wins it on a highlight reel goal in OT. Arnott got 2nd OT shift with Laich at Forward.
hurricane1091
The point is you brought up how it was a good financial move, and it's not. I'm not saying he is worth more or less than his contract, I'm saying your point of clearing up Arnott's cap space is irrelevant. Devils731
The point is you brought up how it was a good financial move, and it's not. I'm not saying he is worth more or less than his contract, I'm saying your point of clearing up Arnott's cap space is irrelevant. I understand what you're both saying, I think. On one hand Arnott's salary was gone after the year so we should ignore it. On the other hand someone had to take Arnott's spot on the roster. Getting someone on a fair value contract to replace Arnott's roster spot is a helpful move for the future.
DaneykoIsGod
Josefson is still set to have his contract slide. Limit is 10 games, Josefson is at 8. Well, so much for this. http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/fireice/comments/josefson_to_get_his_chance_in_the_middle_steckels_faceoff_prowess_an_asset/ Now, even with Steckel replacing Arnott in the middle, Lemaire plans to give Josefson a chance to show what he can do at center over the last quarter of the season.“He’s young and he’s going to have a chance to play to the end of the season,” Lemaire said. “If he does well, the door is open.” Just how much will his cap hit jump next year? IIRC, it's more than a mil.
Triumph
his cap hit won't move at all next year, it's 2013-14 where the devils will end up paying for this
DaneykoIsGod
So he'll be going UFA instead of RFA?
Devils731
So he'll be going UFA instead of RFA? No, he just turns RFA a year earlier. Right now he is on his 3 year ELC. By not playing 10 NHL games his ELC would get extended by an extra year, effectively making it a 4 year ELC deal. So instead of getting Josefson at 900k in 2013-2014 they'll have to pay whatever he re-signs for.
DaneykoIsGod
Ah, OK. Thanks for clearing that up. I don't know where I got the idea that there was some pre-determined dollar amount that he'd jump to if he passed that games-played threshold this year. Devils731
Here is a question I don't know about that. I believe this will also make him a UFA at age 26 instead of age 27, since his 7 year clock will now start at 19 instead of 20. Is this correct? Devils731
that is correct, under the current CBA rules. True true, the CBA rules could change by then. But if they don't, then it's pretty brutal to have Josefson go UFA a year earlier.
sundstrom
it's one thing for lemaire to say something like this before lou pulls the rug out and sends JJ back because it is the smartest thing to do. he may just not be aware of the cap ramifications and just answer the media about JJ and give him confidence. we'll know for sure if he's playing against Pittsburgh on Friday. MDPucks
Arnott with 1st goal as a Cap with 5:15 left in the 3rd to give Washington a 3-2 lead over St. Louis. Took a pass from Semin on a 2x1.

ThreeCups
I think Arnott is going to help them for sure. Everyone here was bashing him sayin that he was finished etc, but it could be the right kind of move to help Washington make a real push. If Washington wins the Cup I will puke for sure
