nyrsuck26
http://espn.go.com/nhl/powerrankings Week-to-week Devils Ranking: http://espn.go.com/nhl/team/rankings/_/name/nj/new-jersey-devils From 2 weeks ago, by Lebrun: Rank: 6 Welcome to the top 10, New Jersey! At 15-1-2 in their past 18 games, the Devils may or may not make the playoffs, but they deserve to be ranked higher for their second-half performance. From last week, by Burnside: Rank: 19 What was LeBrun thinking putting the Devils in top 10? Oh well. Big win over Florida on Sunday keeps slim playoff hopes alive. This week, by Lebrun: Rank: 10 I'm sorry, but any club that goes 20-2-2 in its past 24 games deserves to be in the top 10, no matter what Burnside says. Games with Ottawa, Atlanta and the Islanders this week are a great opportunity to keep the miracle playoff push alive. ___ This made me lol. Burnside will just always hate the Devils, I suppose. DaneykoIsGod
LeBrun couldn't even agree with himself for a while there. The week before putting them at No. 6, he said: Rank: 22 With their current play, the Devils should be ranked within the top 10, but the rankings can't ignore New Jersey's first half of the season. He goes from "the rankings can't ignore New Jersey's first half" to "they deserve to be ranked higher for their second half" in the span of one week. Props to LeBrun for being the only Power Ranker out there with the cojones out there to do something that doesn't look almost exactly like the standings. And Burnside is still a hater, but you know what they say ...
Joe B
Props to LeBrun for being the only Power Ranker out there with the cojones out there to do something that doesn't look almost exactly like the standings. And Burnside is still a hater, but you know what they say ... 5 seed up from the 6 last week isn't exactly going by the standings either. http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/story/14784010/power-rankings-three-switches-powerful-catalysts
DaneykoIsGod
I stopped reading Goldstein a long time ago, so I totally missed that he's got them up there too. I stand corrected. TSN, SI and Burnside are the rankers I've seen playing it safe. SI's are particularly boring.
newarkdev01
I just find the week by week commentary to be interesting, I wonder what it will look like by the time the regular season is over...what a hell of a ride we have been on.
Korean Kid 23
Why does Burnside hate the Devils so much?!
Legion15
Ah from the pros at ESPN. the same authority on sports that doesn't even cover the NHL anymore.
peteyvegas
TSN.CA has us at 18 even today. I guess it's only the standings to them.
ThreeCups
If the rankings are determined by "overall" season then I can't complain no matter what they put the Devils. If the rankings are based on recent play we should be #1 easily.
rangers suck69
The objective of a power ranking is determine where a team ranks among others as a result of their recent play. I dont understand how a team who now is 20-2-2 in their last 24 games isn't ranked in the top
Deek_1969
Burnside and Scott Cullen have always had an axe to grind with the Devils. Any team that goes 20-2-2 deserves to be in the top 5 regardless of their record. None of their methodologies say anything about their record carrying the most weight, but obviously it does. What's amazing is the team has done this without Parise. They also had the emotional loss of losing the team captain. When they make the playoff it will be a great story. When they win the cup it will the the greatest come back in NHL history!
DevilMinder
Don't forget Brodeur suffering multi-game injuries during that run too.
adamcsu
I never understood the whole power ranking thing in general. If you are just going to go based off their record, then there is no point, and if it is truly who is playing the best hockey at that point in time, nobody can argue the Devils in the top 5, most likely #1, but whatever, haters will hate. Keep the dream alive!
