Here is an amusing thought on how to make this team more successful. As you all know, the word "Devils" has a very negative connotation, a word that has been detested through time. The color "red" is known to induce anger and aggression in people. The amalgamation of these, ensures opposing teams and their goaltenders show up with their best games against us. The end result being, this team has to face a tougher season than the rest of the league. The idea is to find out what other factors may encourage other teams to play harder against us and provide suggestions to curb this. My recommendations:

1. Change the name to something like New Jersey Loves, this will hopefully curb some of the aggression, maybe Matt Cooke may lend a hand to lift a player up after boarding him or sign Avery to league minimum.

2. Change the color of our jersey to Bright Pink, if the guy in front of the net does not distract the goaltender, the jersey sure as hell will. Easy goals for us from anywhere on the rink.

3. Change retro night to Valentine's Day, give away a free flower to women night, get more women involved in watching ice hockey resulting in increased attendance, at least on Valentines Day.

The PP was so frustrating. Caps set up a diamond box and they just couldn't work their way around it. Another thing I've noticed: Kovalchuk/Rolston and the other guys who play the point only seem to have one shot - the slapshot. It wouldn't kill them to mix it up a bit and sometimes let a wrister go for deflections.

Stop with all the negatives people. We know it is unlikely they make the playoffs, but I will believe until they are mathematically eliminated. Remember in January when there was no chance? We still supported them then, so why not support them when they do have a shot?

Look at the positives, Carolina has 4 back-to-backs the rest of the season and Buffalo has a pretty tough schedule. If New Jersey can go 10-1 (should get them in) or 11-0 (would be surprised if they didn't get in) they will have a pretty good shot at making the playoffs. Lets continue the "one game at a time" thing and focus on Sunday against the Blue Jackets.

PS. Go Thrashers and Bruins tonight!

Kovy takes wrist shots all the time, sometimes even when he has a better pass option....defensemen have blocked a bunch of his this year

It's tough losing that game to Washington yesterday. The defense played incredible only allowing 12 shots all game, but 3 were goals. The Devils offense almost tripled their shots on goal and had some good opportunities but Neuvirth shut it down.

Just got back home after a whirlwind 24 hours in Newark and Manhattan. Last night I saw a team giving full effort that in the end ran out of gas exacerbated by having Neuverth stand on his head for the first time this season. It was brutally frustrating to watch but in the grand picture there's no shame in considering how far they've come in the last 2 months.

The defence played well but unfortunatly the only 3 horrible defensive breakdowns ended up in their net with Marty having no chance to stop them.
