  1. You bring up a good point.... I agree, and as a matter of fact, imagine Gomez or Gionta hurt. The other day I was a little scared when Brylin gashed his head, he could luckily still play and played a good game. Mogilny is good but from what I know, he was sent to the Waivers because Lamoriello doesn't like him. I think Mogilny was not encouraging and had the wrong attitude, sure he's good and it would be nice having him back, but I dont know...

  2. I guess they're about what I would expect from Lou.

Let's face it...more often than not Lou's not one to make the sexy, headline-making moves. And he clearly decided that bringing in "scorers" such as Mark Recchi (who always disappears during the playoffs), Jeff Friesen (waaaahhh it's sooooo hard to play in Anaheim and replace Teemu Selanne waaaaahhh. What the hell was Burke thinking bringing that headcase back?!) or Keith Tkachuk (please) weren't worth giving up early round draft picks. I'd have loved to see Lou bring in someone who can put some pucks in the net, but those kind of players just weren't out there for the taking. Even though the Isles were willing to deal Lukowich to New Jersey, I don't think they would have been as amenable to dealing Parrish to the Devils.

So Lou's thinking was probably something along the lines of:

My defense is pretty good. My goalie is unconscious right now. Might as well try to shore up my 'D' best as I can, get rid of a spare part in Brown I don't need, and try to win as many 2-1 games as I can. If that works, great. If not, I didn't really see this team as a Cup-winner this year anyway.

As as far as Sluggo goes...how many 24-year-old scorers come into the league and blossom? Most true scoring prospects break into the league at somewhere between 20-22, if not before. The AHL's full of guys who put up pretty numbers but can't get it done at the NHL level. Craig Darby anyone? And from all reports, Sluggo's not a systems kind of guy, so it probably wouldn't have worked out here for him. One thing that's obvious: Lou doesn't like him as a Devil. And considering that 25-year-olds usually aren't considered prospects anymore, he simply wasn't going to fetch a whole lot in a deal.

So, overall, I'd have to say I'm happy with what Lou's done. Let the 2-1 nailbiters begin...

Here's what I gotta say: I think the add on to our defense is good, but since January the D's been sharp... It can't hurt to make it better. We do need more offense too but what team's gonna give us someone good especially considering 25 of 30 teams are still in the playoff race, they're gonna want to keep key players. I think through this rough year, we've maintained a playoff spot, and I think we're gonna like the postseason.

  3. Oh geez. Someone delete this before PK sees it!

Look, it isn't going to happen. Stevens is done. His number hangs from the rafters. We just brought in two decent to better than decent DMen. The only way Stevens can help the Devils now would be as a coach.

Alright, chill out here... I heard it on FSN and I would expect they know something about the Devils on account of: it's there job lol.

  4. Hey guys, I think on FSN I heard Stan Fischler and Loughlin talking about Stevens possibly coming off retirement for a short time to help the Devils through the Playoffs. Now Stevens hasn't said anything about it but do you think it's possible. He's helped us to that shiny Cup 3 times now, can the team's best ever captain and defenseman come back and get us there again? He said he's enjoying home life but I sure hope he'll come back, just for the playoffs.

  5. Hey all, new here... I was thinking, since the Olympic Break the Devils are 2-0-2 For a total of 6 points and all of our losses were in overtime. So that's good. But to think the Devils have not scored more than 3 goals in regulation time since the break, shows we need some offense. If you think about it, we would not have struggled at the beginning of the year if Elias weren't out. Although, the 9 Gm Winning Streak was not only because of Elias, but the defense has shaped up which is why we're winning now. We have very talented offensive lines, Gionta, Gomez, Langenbrunner,Kozlov, Brylin are all great. It just seems they can't generate enough offense. Brodeur remains ON FIRE with good help from the defense but to score even 3 goals would guarentee us a win. Brodeur almost assures us no more than 2 goals a game. But I think the winning combination would be the EGG line (Elias,Gomez,Gionta). They are known as the best scoring line in the NHL and teams are cautious when playing them. But in order to get this 3rd goal we need the Devils top goal scorer, for 3 straight years... Now after his rib injury in the Olympics, when is he supposed to get back? Thanks, Neeks123
