Has Weekes and his .919 save percentage really given you a reason to get nervous with him in net?
I originally thought Weekes was a genious signing by Lou, because it seemed he was finally going to give Marty a break. However, Marty's just never going to get a break. Marty is too competitive to allow himself to take a game or two off. Plus, when he plays well, he'll never sit. When he struggles, like at the start of the year, he plays all the time because he has to get in a groove.
Weekes has turned out to be a waste of a perfectly good 600 g's.

Have we forgotten that the guy is 35? We all know, even if he was dead tired, Marty would NEVER admit to this. His competitive drive forces him to block out everything so he can get on the ice and compete, and that includes pain and fatigue.
He's turned it around, been a big part of the Devils resurgence, but fact is, he's 35, next year is 36, is everyone going to be saying this when the guy is 40?

Wow, that's about as weak as the Devils have looked all year. No energy. Doesn't even look like there's an honest effort out there.
Weekes had no shot on 2 of the 3. True, he mishandled the rebound badly on the third goal against, but frankly, Weekes has been left hanging out to dry by his team. He's actually make a couple of really nice saves in the middle of all this.
The lines should never have been changed. Although, don't know if it'd make a difference. The team looks EXHAUSTED. I don't know if I saw Kolzig's face all of 2 times that period.

Any chance Weekes plays tonight? He was playing about 1 in 5 or so at the start of the year, of course, the Vezina form in Marty is back, but he's played what, maybe 15 in a row now?
Not a bad time to finally get Weekes some action. Marty is well on his way to another 75-78 right now.

Hopefully WEEEEEEEEEKES is in net. Nothing against Marty, he was really good last night, just like starting Weekes on back to backs and in 3 game in 4 night stretches.

I don't think calling him out does anything but make things worse. Right now there's problems with every facet of the team, yes, but fact of the matter is, when you cut right through to the heart of it, the Devils are not getting adequate goaltending from Marty. However, I do believe that if Marty is called out, that he will only get more frustrated. It will end with Marty approaching Lou and demanding Brent Sutter be fired. It'll be an "it's him or me" case because I think Marty is too proud to be called out by a first year coach.
The most interesting thing will be this. We've got back to backs tonight and tomorrow. If Marty has yet another mediocre game, all things aside, and loses, and IF Sutter goes with Weekes tomorrow who looks strong and wins again, things are going to be interesting. If nothing else, in the back of Sutter's mind, there will be a lot of extra thought process as to whom he starts in the next game and he may keep Marty on a tight leash in the future.
Just being honest, there are probably 5-7 goalies in the league that are going to play every game no matter how they do, and Marty is one of them. If this were one of those other 23 teams though, and his name was not Martin Brodeur, I do think Weekes is challenging for significant playing time, and not a start every 9 games or so. Weekes has pulled 5 out of a possible 6 points in his 3 starts and is really kind of becoming the best signing that Lou made this Summer.

Good call. People don't seem to understand that it really doesn't matter how many goals the goalie is going to give up if the f*cking team can't produce on the power play. And I suppose it's also the goalies fault that Greene did absolutely nothing to stop Jagr from crashing the net on that last goal. I put more of a check on Jagr from my living room then Greene did.
And losing Martin was just sh*t luck for the Devils. The D is weak as is and then you lose the best defenseman the team has.
Whatever, it really doesn't matter. The Devils played flat that period. This is their home rink and nobody is hitting and there just doesn't seem to be any desperation there.

Moving away from bashing Marty, last year on the Rangers there was a similar situation with Henrik Lundqvist. Lundqvist had a pretty disappointing start to the year that somewhat mirrors what Marty's going through so far. Rangers eventually said enough was enough, Weekes was given a start and responded beating Anaheim 4-3 in OT, whom at the time was undefeated and the top team in the West, then he beat the Sharks on back to back nights 3-1, then he took an OT loss 4-3 to the Sabres who happened to be the best in the league. He got 3 straight starts against 3 very good teams and pulled 5 out of a possible 6 points. Henrik came in and looked like a different goalie. Sometimes a little competition is all you need, especially for Marty. He's so used to playing every game no matter what, just imagine if he saw Weekes start 3 straight and the team did good during the stretch, he would come back in and make saves that are nobody's business.

not that i can recall.. i think its time to give MArty just a break.. i know it may seem odd but just rest him from the Isles game (meaning give Weekes the start vs NYI) and let Marty be ready for the Rangers, and hopefully clear the problems out of his head =/..
And now another thing to blame thats quite evident - Sutter bad coaching. Starting Marty? Okay LL signed Weekes to play games to rest MArty.. isnt today a rest today? Marty played well in Pitt. why want him to "Add" to it? He only made it worse. So maybe not all blame can be pointed to Marty, but instead at the coach for the decision of starting Brodeur..

Look, not a good night for Weekes, but I feel bad for the guy.
At the beginning of the season, October/November he looked really good to be honest.
When he was getting to play in 1 of every 5 on average he was getting a taste of the action, staying sharp, and etc.
Now, he's playing 1 in every 10-15. He's going a month in between starts, on average, and I don't care how hard you work in practice, you MENTALLY can't be up for a game when you haven't played in a month. It takes time to adjust. My guess, throw him in for the next game and he'll be strong, but alas, that's the life of a Devil's back up goalie.
In my opinion, no reason at all why a no talent, career minor leaguer like Stephen Valliquette across the river gets a start on every set of back to back nights, every set of 3 games in 4 night stretches, etc. behind Henrik Lundqvist. Meanwhile, a legit goalie like Weekes gets to play once a month, and maybe once a month at that, because that's not guaranteed.
Plus, 6 games, his first what you'd call legit bad game.
Marty 5, Weekes 1. That's how it should be. That way Kevin gets to play every 2 weeks and can stay sharp, Marty can stay fresh, and Kevin doesn't risk losing you points when he does play because he maintains his mental focus and edge.
