Look at the Rags fans' faces after Ward's goal.

"Bu.. bu.. but da Rainjaz is saposed ta win dis game. I mean, I paid all dis money ta be at da Gah-den, dey just can't have lawst. Betta go tweet about how dis one is on da refs, it's da only reason we eva looz."

BTW - is that Johnny Knoxville in the bottom right photo?

  2. On the seating chart, it's good to see them finally embracing the difference in demand between the shoot twice side and the defend twice side. Though I still wish 226 and 215 could get lumped in with the less-expensive corner sections just feet away from them.

  3. A hostel?  Were you thinking you were in Europe?!  Americans don't do hostels! lol

lol well we stayed in the motel part of the hostel because it was actually cheaper for 2 people in one room than 2 beds in the hostel portion. But yeah for my hockey trips, I stayed at hostels in Ottawa, Boston, and Washington DC. Saves you lots of money in a city if you don't mind sleeping with random strangers! I just get liquored up and wear earplugs to sleep through the night lol.

  4. Visited Sunrise back in November. It's my favorite arena of the ones I've been to! You wouldn't think it's old with all the nice fixtures around and the amazing (new) scoreboard. Only downside to that arena was the food, it's boring and ordinary. Though you'll be blown away with the amount of hard liquor they're selling everywhere.

Pre-game, we ate like kings at this amazing Cuban place - Don Carlin located 11447 W Oakland Park Blvd, Sunrise, FL 33323. Dude, if you don't have Cuban while you're there you are wasting a great opportunity. At this place, I recommend the Pork Tamale appetizer, Ropa Vieja, and the Vaca Frita. They also give you warm garlic bread when you sit down. Everyone else eating there spoke Cuban so you know it's good. And the place is like 5 minutes from the arena!

We tried to hit South Beach but it was Halloween so the place was mobbed. Couldn't get a parking spot for under $30 so we bagged it. I just loved driving around though! So many hot chicks

Other than that, we stayed in a hostel/motel in Hollywood and the beach there was fantastic. Free beach, nice shops and restaurants along the beach, and the water was nice. Definitely go for a swim while there.

And yeah park at the mall. We parked there and walked over for free. The mall is ridiculously huuuge and we had trouble even finding an entrance, but it was fun to walk through for a bit.

I saw 4 people in Devils jerseys while I was there and it was a Flyers game, so I'm sure you'll meet a bunch of our fans and chat.

  5. I'm hoping that the Devils fans going tonight show up angry. Don't put up with any bullsh!t. These types of games typically bring out the ass-bottom scum of their fanbase. There will be a$$holes showing up with the express purpose of causing trouble. I hope those types of Rags fans are dealt with accordingly... And by 'accordingly', I mean Devils fans/security knocking their fvcking teeth down their throats.

Honestly I don't think our fans will outnumber them enough for us to be able to really fight back much.. That, and they have a strong chance of winning, plus even if they lose they're still a top team in the league so there isn't much to say back to them..

On the plus side, I have $40 or $50 in food credit to burn. Sushi buffet for dinner!

  6. Not to belabor the point, but I came across this solid post on the value of the membership program (from Devils Dominion on HFBoards):

Who's invited to the Devils Flex Membership presentation tonight?

There is really not that much to cover, you pay a minimum of $2,500 with the option of making 12 monthly payments.

When the schedule is released, you call your rep and choose your games, amount of tickets (up to 8 per game) and seat locations based on availability.
You can add games/seats as the season progresses as long as you still have funds in your account. Ticket prices will be lower than box office but slightly higher than what full STHers pay.

You will be entitled to most of the membership benefits too including access to player events.

Great flexibility, should be a real game changer.

It's not for the "cost conscious" fan who scours the cheap seats on StubHub or offers to buy tix on Facebook Group pages for 1/4 of the sellers' cost.

But IMO it is a great fit for these types of fans:

*The Devils fan that had had full season tix at some point, enjoys the STH benefits and attending a lot of games but just cannot commit to most of them anymore and does not want to deal with the time & effort of finding buyers for the games they cannot make. Typically they find that they cannot sell them unless they drop the price below their cost or they end of eating them which causes anger & frustration and leads to many venting posts on Devils fan message boards.

*Small biz owners or sales professional who usually attends around 10-20 games per season to entertain clients, prefers lower level or premium areas, but it's too costly to get full season in those areas. Boom, Flex Membership to the rescue.

*The diehard Devils fan who likes to hit about half of the games and enjoys the player events. He/She now has the flexibility of buying a single ticket to weeknight games to sit with friends in the balcony & drink brews & yell YS! and then 4 tickets for certain weekend games to sit with his/her family in lets say the lower level. Full season tickets was not a good fit for this type of fan.

*The older fan that only likes to sit in the calmer lower level, will go to a fair share of games, never tries or knows how to re-sell their tickets, money/ticket pricing is not an obstacle in their post retirement/golden years.
But they are in Florida or a warmer climate for a few months out of the winter.
Flex Membership fits like a glove as they can now pick the lot of the early & late season games and even a few in between to give as Christmas gifts to their kids and grandchildren. They also want to feel appreciated and a part of something and Flex Membership will do so.

  7. Have any other franchises offered something like this?  Because it makes an absurd amount of sense.  The flexibility with this really makes this appealing.

Can't say I've ever heard of it like this before. I mean flex plans have been used by many teams including the Devils in the past, but this takes it to a new level with the Membership aspect. It's obviously a bigger financial commitment than a flex plan, but you can see by the sheet I posted on the previous page that it comes with a bunch of cool perks that appeal to every audience. Pretty genius concept and I hear it's selling very well despite barely being announced.

  8. Yeah, the whole "the 2012 playoff run was a fluke" narrative really sucks...it's just an attempt to lump all of the last five seasons (including this one) together.  The 2010-11 second half was a fair indicator that the 2011-12 season would be better.  Especially since Parise was coming back after having missed most of the 10-11 season.  If anything, it was the first half of 2010-11 that seems fluky by comparison.

Yup and it frustrates the heck out of me. You just don't make it that close to the Cup by "a fluke".

Anyway, speaking more to the benefits of this new flex-plan style Membership (pulled from my HF post on it):

It's great in a lot of different ways. STH who sell a lot of games and then complain about resale value no longer have to. They can go to only the games they want, so they don't have to worry about selling the ones they don't.

This is especially true for you CR: Families can also now vary the number of tickets they buy per game. For instance, maybe Dad usually goes alone to midweek games but the wife and kids like to attend occasional weekend games. Before, Dad would have to buy 4 tickets and try to sell his 3 unused ones for his weekday games. Dad can now buy 1 lower level ticket to his midweek games (without having to sell the other 3), and then buy 4 100-level seats to the weekday games his family wants to attend. He can also now just buy 3 tickets if one kid can't go, or 5 tickets if one kid wants to bring a friend.

The other bonus, aside from a ton of flexibility and the perks, is that by having these fans only buy the exact number of tickets they need for only the games they plan to attend, it'll cut down on people dumping tickets on secondary markets.

  9. Lol we have some 'fans' lemme tell ya....holy cow.

Yeah gotta love someone who basically said he only cares about following winning teams. Just hold up a sign that says "FAIR-WEATHER". But the more comical part is to then claim 2012 was "fluke" when we beat 2 teams heavily favored including the Rangers who almost won the Presidents Trophy, and then missed out on the Cup by 2 wins. Yup, so fluky! We must have only had like 6 or 7 shots per game in all those series, with players blindfolded of course, and somehow the pucks slipped through the goalies' pads.. So fluky!!

  10. I think this is a pretty cool alternative to a full STH plan. This is great for those folks who buy season tickets but wind up selling a ton of their games. Now, they'll only have tickets to the games they actually want to attend and don't have to take losses on sales. Plus, you're not locked into one seating location, so you can try out a couple different areas around the arena. It also helps the Devils and other STH by cutting down on resales (which typically drive down the overall prices on the secondary market).

From what I heard, this also allows current STH to keep their tenure. I think in a few years when I have kids but don't want to give up my tenure, I may switch to this plan. For now though I want to attend 30+ games anyway and keep my same seats in 226, so I wouldn't make the switch.

  11. I am a member of several message boards, and this one is the only one where the members outright attack each other for the other's opinions all day long.

As I like to say, opinions are like a-holes, and most of them other than mine stink.

It's a real shocker that many active posters have left over the past couple years..... 2 admins with full time jobs is no way to run a serious online community

  12. Per an HFBoards comment:

I sent an email to my account representative asking whether the restriction applied to sales through TicketExchange. He just called me and said that it does not. If anyone else speaks to their respective account rep, maybe they can confirm.

Well of course their own resale website isn't part of this.. duh!!   :dizzy:

  13. Is Novelty Burger going where Uber Burger was?

Also I saw a what looked like a bar on the 2nd floor above Edison Ale House.  Is that part of Edison Ale House or that place that used to be called Loft 47 (I think its called something with the word "Venue" in it).

I believe Novelty Burger is actually going in on Market Street, next to Mercato Tomato Pie, I believe. That Uber Burger space may never get filled with all of the options that are going in on the north end of the arena where a majority of traffic comes.

And yeah, I'm not really sure what that 2nd floor space is connected to, but I think it's part of Taste Venue (former Loft 47). Could be wrong though.

  14. Stealing this great post from Brick City over on HFBoards:

Pretty sure someone here asked for an update on the Indigo Hotel once it was completed. I walked by the building last night before the game and it is indeed up and running. Did not go inside, but there is a ground floor restaurant called Alva New American Tavern at the rear of the building which is open for business. There is also a rooftop bar (with an indoor section) and a snack/coffee stand in the lobby both operated by the Alva owners.

Alva Tavern (plus rooftop bar and lobby stand) website:  http://www.alvatavern.com/

Pictures from Blackwood Hospitality (owner of the above eateries) facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/blackwoodhospitality

Pictures of Hotel Indigo lobby from its facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hotel-Indigo-Newark-Downtown/368601029971274?sk=photos_stream

Also a good article about the hotel and its eateries:  http://www.newarkinc.com/thomas_edison_theme_runs_throughout_newark_hotel

    ****************************

Rock Plaza Lofts also rented out its last vacancy on the Market Street side (and possibly Edison Place as well) to Redd's Restaurant & Bar. It already has a location in the Meadowlands and the Market Street signage indicated that there will be banquet space. The ground floor is contiguous between Market Street and Edison Place - would not be surprised if this restaurant runs the length of the building and has entrances on both streets.

The Novelty Burger location is still under construction but a new sign for them went up so that is still happening.

  15. Wow didn't realize we have so many other Hunterdon County (I live in Flemington) residents here. My gf is a Flyers fan so we looked into the whole Flyers-blackout thing. Basically they told us that Flemington is in an area with NY/NJ and Philly rights, so we can't watch games on GC or CI because of that. But our TV line is run from Hillsborough, which is strictly in the NY/NJ market, so it doesn't get CSN Philly either. We're basically in a Flyers dead-zone and ended up getting a HockeyStreams account to deal with it.

  16. Must be even less regulated in the AHL. Wedge said during last season that he put on a lot of weight eating unhealthy food because he was hungry all the time from the added exercise of being a pro.

It's a fact that eating clean gives you more focus and energy, even if it's not fun or as delicious, so I can see why teams limit the junk when they can. Though we all remember Parise scarfing down pizza in the press box

  17. I think the NBA did a study and the teams that skipped morning shoot-arounds played better that night..

Is this a hint that there's no Game Day thread yet? ;)

I say we roll with this as the GDT. I've seen worse on here before

  18. I really don't see how the rookies can be that much worse than Salvador. He has a career +/- of -6, holds a -2 rating this season and has played one full season his entire career. I'd rather take the lumps of the young kids learning the PK on the job. We know what we have with Sal and it's not good.

He has been on the ice for the majority of the PPGA. I'm just baffled that this guy wears the C in NJ.

Can't really look at plus/minus when Sal takes a lot of PK minutes. That's why it's not a great stat, you're punished for being one of the more reliable guys on D who the coach trusts with PK time
