I'm happy to see the Devils sign Anderson, though I would've had no problem if he went back to college for one more year. You could say his recent season was a bit underwhelming but he did play injured early on and even missed 6 straight games in November. After returning from that he had 24 points in 28 games. I really like this kid's game though, two-way winger, loves to go into the dirty areas and battle, has solid offensive instincts to help set up his teammates. I think he'll be a solid player for the Devils.

Thought something weird was going on when my brother (Rangers fan) texted me "whose rykov?". Feels weird seeing a Devils - Rangers trade.
I'll give Shero credit, Grabner addresses a need and should be a good fit for this team. Hopefully he can get the job done. I wouldn't be surprised if Shero has another move up his sleeve before the deadline.
Initially I was a bit taken aback when I saw Rykov going the other way as he's been one of my favorite prospects. I've been able to see a few SKA games a year for the past couple of years and really liked his game, even in the reduced role he played for them. I really think he has what it takes to be a solid two-way, top 4 guy at the NHL level. I believe his contract with SKA is until 4/30/19 so there was still going to be a bit of a waiting period for him. Have to think that Butcher proving himself at the NHL level and the emergence of Davies for Northeastern made Rykov easier to give up. Plus, they still have the other Yegor (Zaitsev) as another LD prospect, though I'm not as high on him as I am on Rykov.
Also, I could be wrong but I think after this trade the Devils have no 2nd or 3rd round picks in the 2018 draft. I'll have to double check when I'm not half asleep.

Big fan of this trade and I love it even more considering Shero only used 2 surplus picks. I really like how he's not afraid to go out each summer and get aggressive on the trade market.
-
I definitely agree that the whole Bennett in NJ experiment ended up not being great asset management. I would've liked to retain him but I can't get too upset. Seems like another player that will put up solid possession numbers but never find the back of the net. I trust Shero's longterm plan anyway.

I don't mind the Boyle signing. Decent 4th line C and can bring a vet presence. Will be weird seeing him in a Devils uniform though lol

His time here was short but I do appreciate everything Cammalleri did. He always seemed to have a great attitude and be a team guy even when playing in some less than ideal circumstances over the past few years. It's too bad he's on the decline now, definitely an easy guy to root for imo. Hopefully he catches on somewhere that's a good fit for him at this stage of his career.
On DSP, nothing against the guy but he really was invisible most of the time.

I'm definitely happy they got that deal done. As others have said, solid backup and it's always nice to keep a guy that came up through the organization.

Is Fiesty or someone else going to keep us up to speed on Development Camp? invitee's? etc. Are there 8 players coming from Princeton ?
Inquiring minds need to know.
I'll do my best to keep an updated invite list. It's kind of funny that it seems invites to prospect camp used to leak out on twitter more under Lou then Shero though (or at least it seems that way). So far I've only found one invite: Nicolas Guay (Source - EliteProspects Profile) from Drummondville (QMJHL).
Hockey Prospect list him as a C/RW at 5'11, 174 and had him ranked 157th overall for this past draft. He just turned 18 on 6/18. His rookie season in the Q in 2015-16 was spent in a 4th line role with Chicoutimi where he had 3 goals and 6 assists in 37 games. He left Chicoutimi and spent the 1st half of the 2016-17 season with the EC Salzburg Academy (Red Bull Academy) in Austria. In one game with the U18 team he had 2 goals and an assist. In 15 games with the EC Salzburg II team he had no goals an assist but did get to play against grown men that had professional experience. Age range of that league last year was 15-43 according to EliteProspects. He returned to the Q to play for Drummondville in the 2nd half of the season and in a more utilized role had 10 goals and 13 assists in 35 games. He also had a 9.71 SH% and 2.94 SH/GP in that stretch. Hockey Prospect likes his skills and smarts, said he improved his skating last year, but he still needs to add strength. Interesting prospect though.

I'll have more to post on each of the Devils selections later this weekend, but my quick reaction is I like this pick. Multiple scouting services had him ranked around where the Devils selected him. Skilled forward, high end skater, with a finesse game. That's fine in my book for a high second round pick.

Nico! Yes! I'm so relieved/excited/happy!

I'm kinda meh on this trade. I like that Shero used the extra picks they had to target a young defenseman, though some could argue it's still not the best asset management since Mueller is getting close to bust status. The 4th to 5th is pretty much a wash in value. I suppose Shero isn't high on a lot of the potential 2nd round talent and would rather gamble on a more developed prospect that is closer to contributing. Mueller is going to have a great opportunity to finally cement his status as a NHL defender this season and I hope he takes advantage of it. Entering his age 22 year, he really needs to take that next step. Hopefully this works out for the Devils.

I see people elsewhere compare this to the Palmieri trade but I agree with you. As you said, Palmieri had already shown that he was a NHL player, the book is out on Mueller and entering his age 22 year, it's time to show something. Definitely a different situation.

McLeod leading OHL scoring this late into the playoffs is awesome. Can anyone calculate his ppg since the WJC? Gotta be nearly 1.7ppg
Since returning from the WJC (including regular season + playoffs): 40 GP 27-36-63, 1.58 Pts/GP, 2.80 SH/GP, 24.11 SH%

Interesting news. Kelleher and Bayreuther were two of the prospects I was hoping the Devils would have interest in this spring.
I'm a fan of signing Kelleher. Everyone's going to talk about his size, understandably, but being able to add a playmaking prospect that has produced at the NCAA level (1.09 Pts/GP) since being a natural freshman is awesome. I've been hoping the Devils would be able to sign him eventually since he attended the 2015 prospect camp. Doesn't turn 23 until next January so it's not like he's one of the older UDFA's, especially for a guy that played 4 years. Still a longshot to make it, but at least there is some potential there.
Here's some of what SBN College Hockey had to say on Kelleher recently as one of the top UDFA's out of the NCAA:
QuoteWhen focusing on Kelleher, it doesn't take long to realize what his game is all about. He has a quick stick and is relatively shifty, but he doesn't have elite NHL speed. He's undersized as well. He makes up for that with elite hockey sense. He knows where to be in the offensive zone at all times. He's always one step ahead of the defensemen at this level. He finds seams and he knows where he's going with the puck before he gets it on his stick.
His size is less the reason he's behind Vecchione and Aston-Reese than his play in his own zone. He's struggled for whatever reasons to engage and be a purposeful player when defending.
Strengths: Elite hockey sense, quick stick, makes linemates better
Weaknesses: Lack of size, NHL speed, defensive zone responsibility
Bayreuther is a guy I've kept tabs on this season since I found him to be one of the more interesting invites to last summer's prospect camp. Offensive producer from the back end (0.78 Pts/GP in his NCAA career) and Last Word on Sports ranked him as one of the top UDFA's last spring with this to say:
QuoteHe has an outstanding slap shot, with excellent power and accuracy. He shows the ability to be a power play quarterback with solid puckhandling skill, good vision, and strong passing ability. He is a very good skater showing good speed and the agility to walk the line and open up shooting and passing lanes. Bayreuther could use some extra upper body strength as he can be manhandled along the boards and in front of the net in his own end of the ice.
Honestly don't know much about his defensive ability, but it seems like there may be a player there. With how thin the Devils are as an organization, why not take a chance? I hope they can get a deal done.
