I was talking about Lou not letting the social media post nonsense like that.

Yea I know. I lost my WiFi and had to edit the end of my paragraph.  I definitely see your point. I think their rationale is just poking fun at themselves because they expect a lot of traditional-minded fans to hate the new look.

Who knows man, God forbid if Shero doesn't do well here and Lou gets bored in Toronto after helping to turn them into a better organization, maybe you see him try to come back here as GM and dismantle everything Shero did. I'm sure he feels he left with a lot unresolved and I'm sure many fans would be ecstatic if he returned. Although he'd be really up there in age and he'd also have to convince the new ownership to go along with his plans.

Couldn't agree more. I like Ray and it was time for a change but Lou would never allow nonsense like this and that aspect I definitely miss.

Lou would never allow one stitch on the jersey to be changed and would still be disallowin #13 to be used and forcing all low numbers on the players' jerseys.  It's nice to see a change of pace...

With that said, they are clearly mocking themselves and taking it lightheartedly. It's not bad when u see it that way...

This is set to be either the biggest bait-&-switch in history.. or the moment where Chris Creamer (among others) loses absolutely every ounce of credibility he has, for saying: "the Devils to be one of 8 other teams, who will see major changes in their uniforms" 3 months ago. --because of the 3 pictures that've leaked thus-far these last 2 weeks.. it looks like the jersey's going to be exact same design it's always been. :P

Lou Lamoriello called up Adidas and told them not to make a single change to the Devils uniforms, and they listened. Lol

Barring injury to Crosby or Malkin who's going to stop them?

True unfortunately.  Crosby and Malkin will be 30 next year, which means that team has at least another 5-8 years of winning Cups. It's the annoying, arrogant, spoiled fan base that angers me the most tbh.

Bettman:  I asked Sidney if he threw it on purpose and he said NOOOO.  What do you want me to do, torture him?  But I'm not going to take this lying down, I can tell you that...I'm going to give a piece of my mind to that water bottle manufacturer ASAP...no way we can have water bottles slipping out of Golden Boy's hand and launching themselves 10 feet onto the ice...that is not acceptable...this is not Sidney's fault, and I will nestle him against my bosom and comfort him in this time of need, so he knows that Daddy still loves him.

slasher72...yeah, I was actually into the Cult at that time (the Electric album more than anything else, although the Love songs were much better live...that album had horrible production), but a lot of Metallica fans definitely weren't...and supposedly the Cult and Metallica didn't get along terribly well at all during that tour.  I remember the Kill Bon Jovi signs and shirts as well (I had a custom-made shirt that had Bon Jovi on the front with a big red NO symbol on it, like the ones you see on NO LEFT TURN streetsigns, etc...it read GLAM METAL SUCKS on the back)...all you had to do at a Metallica show was yell "Kill Bon Jovi", and instantly everyone within earshot was your buddy for the night (including the ladies)...heh heh.

I've never voluntarily listened to Load or Reload, and never will.  Unforgiven II was a real low point...had me thinking what's next?  Fight Fire with More Fire?  Remaster of Puppets?  One More?  Bleech.

I think RTL would've been the similar had Mustaine stuck around (like you said, he had some writing credits on that one), but I think their subsequent works would've been much different.  If I ever get a DeLorean with a flux capacitor, I'll talk James and Lars into giving Dave one final last chance (supposedly he got a lot of those before he got the definitive boot), and then I'll come back and check out Metallica's back catalog.  I get the feeling Dave would've only lasted two or three albums, tops...he seemed like a VERY difficult guy to work with long term...the only guy who seems to be able to take him is Dave "Junior" Ellefson.

That's great hehe,  yea those were good times when Metallica was still in their angry phase and Kill Bin Jovi logos were aplenty at their shows. I don't remember too many good looking ladies at their concerts, but I could be wrong (Motley Crue was another story - yea I know, poseur. Lol). I'll say this though, the coolest people you'd ever want to meet were at those Metallica shows back then. It was like a brotherhood...

I agree with you on the Cult. Electric is an incredible album and I played that cassette tape ad nauseum. The beginning to Memphis Hip Shake has always been one of my favorites.

Was at that exact same show...

Yup, I remember the crowd wasn't really into the Cult and we were all waiting for Metallica to hit the stage. I remember seeing a guy near the front row area waving a huge white homemade flag that said "Kill Bon Jovi", I remember they opened the show with Blackened, played Green Hell/Last Caress towards the end and then for the encore, James said, "This is a song written by Jethro Tull" (because they were nomiated best heavy metal band that year at the Grammy's and he felt Metallica got screwed) and then started playing Breadfan and the place went nuts. They were still pissed off, cursed a lot, and played with a lot of aggression back then. One of the best shows I've ever been to. If I remember correctly, I think Lars fell off his drum seat during Blackened too.

Justice album definitely didn't age as well as the other pre-Load efforts, for many reasons...one of which was the oddly sterile production (Newstead's bass can hardly be heard, and Lars' drums just don't sound right)...and the songs are just too damned long...

I couldn't agree more. It's probably one of the least listened to albums of theirs. Every song is way too long. I like Frayed Ends of Sanity, but only the first 5 minutes. After that, it gets boring.

I remember being worried that they would lose something when they released their first official video (One), though I thought it was awesome that they WERE releasing a video...but something did change.

Absolutely.. I remember back then we were anxious to see the video because up till that point, Metallica had been the "anti-MTV" band and refused to make videos because they thought that was selling out.

I remember when Reload came out, how part of me wanted the ghost of Cliff to come back and grab them and yell "WTF happened to you guys?!"

I can't bring myself to listen to Load or ReLoad. More power to ya.

Every now and then another part of me wonders how things might have been if Mustaine hadn't been sacked, but then we wouldn't have Megadeth...

If Mustaine was still in that band during the 80's, RTL would have pretty much remained the same because he wrote a few of those songs and I have to believe that MOP would have been similar if not a bit heavier. You might even want to consider that songs like Peace Sells would have made it on to MOP in addition to the ones on there already, but Hetfield would have been singing them instead of Mustaine. That would have been sick. I think if they had just said to Dave, "clean up your act now or you're gone by the next show" he would have tried to make an effort. But who knows.. All I know is the foursome of Mustaine, Hetfield, Burton, and Ulrich would have been an unstoppable force during that time period.

Nashville is a totally different team away from Bridgestone. Pens are going to be first team to repeat since the late 90's.

If they three-peat next year I will put my foot through the tv set.

Anyway.. this game is over. Nashville is sleeping.

OK, this is so off-topic, but how was Metallica?  They were kind of dead to me after the black album...I dug everything they did up until Load...they lost me.  I've heard some of their newer stuff (crazy that Death Magnetic is closing in on nine years old), but it feels with that album and their latest, it's almost like they're saying, "Well, everyone liked our 80s stuff best, so let's just do that, and everyone will be happy."  Kinda like when the Steel Dragon guitarist (Rock Star movie) admitted to their imitation signer-for-hire (who wanted to have more input) that they weren't interested in taking any chances, that they wanted to play it safe so that they wouldn't alienate or lose their fans.  I actually do like what I've heard off Metallica's last two releases, but I'll never want to listen to any of it over RTL or MOP...feels like lesser reboots of that era to me.  I've seen them five times (late 80s-early 90s) and though they never disappointed as a band (lots of raw intensity and energy), Lars is really not a very good drummer...very sloppy and not gifted with good "feel".  I've always wondered what Metallica could've been with a better drummer for sure...the joke I've made is that he's the second-best drummer in Metallica, behind James.  Even Lars is aware of the criticism...basically once said that he'll never be Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) or Joey Jordison (formerly of Slipknot, Murderdolls and Scar the Martyr, now with Vimic), but that he thinks what he does within Metallica works, while admitting that he knows he has talent limitations.  To be fair to him, he WAS one of the early speed-metal drummers...his drumming on "Fight Fire With Fire" was pretty ahead of its time.  That was mind-blowing sh!t back then.

Saw Iron Maiden last night at the Rock...friggin' amazing...I went there hoping that they'd be 70% of what they were, and it was more like 105%.  They were THAT good.  Really awesome to see a bunch of guys in their 50s and 60s still be able to hit it out of the park the way that they did.  That was my first time seeing them and my only regret is that I didn't see them a lot more earlier.

    Oh, and anyway:

    GO PREDS!

That's awesome. Didn't know we had metalheads on this board. I saw Metallica during the Justice tour at the Bredan Byrne Arena, the Cult opened up for them. Would have liked to have seen Iron Maiden back in the day...my favorite album of theirs is Killers, followed by Number of the Beast.

Regarding Metallica,  I only listen to KEA, RTL, MOP, and Garage Days '88.

    Good sh*t.

Rinne was fvcking embarrassing in the 3rd period.

I dare say if we're ever looking to trade Cory we might be able to send him to Nashville, especially if they get bounced early

This is gonna be a short series.

The Pens fans are more obnoxious than Rangers fans and that's hard to top.

This series will go 4 games. I think Nashville gets swept, as much as it pains me to say that. They just look like they can't catch a break (while Pitt gets nearly every break), Rinne is playing poorly, and they can't score at all.

Just give the Pens the Cup Bettman so you can coronate them as the NHL's best team ever and hope they do it again next year.

I only have one small request, can someone please knock that a-hole Malkin on his ass??

  11. Now that I've had about 10+ hours to reflect on the game last night, I've come to the conclusion that Bettman and the NHL want the Penguins to win at all costs because they believe having a perrenial winner will draw new fans. This reminds me of the mid 90's Chicago Bulls where all Jordan had to do was dribble the ball into the paint and if anyone grazed his jersey, it was a foul. The NBA wanted the Bulls in the spotlight for as long as possible for revenue and I see this as being no different.

As good as the Preds are, and I'm rooting for them to win, I don't think they stand a chance because they are up against a good opponent and up against the referees. And that combo is probably too much for any team to overcome.

  12. Aside from the Rangers, I can't think of another team I despise more than Pittsburgh.  Them and their annoying f'ing fans.

I really hope we get it together in the next 3-5 years and face off against them in the playoffs as they're on the decline. I'd like nothing more than to see a fast, youthful and skilled Devils team knock them out.

  13. It's Bettman's favorite time if year where he gets to hand the Stanley Cup trophy, come hell or highwater, to his favorite team the Pittsburgh Penguins.

That offsides call was utter and complete bullshiet. But you knew it was going in the Pens favor. And now Malkin scores. What else is new....
