  1. 226 as usual.. The Flyers fan girlfriend will be with me :)

Whew. That's at least one other Flyers fan in the same section where I'll be. I'm looking forward to it since the Winter Classic precluded my usual road trips to places like NJ, the Island, and DC this year. Here's to a good series.

  2. Why do people think Trenton is "Flyers Country"? Last I checked Trenton is in Mercer county which is in Central Jersey. not South. Trenton isn't as close to Philly as you think it is. By your logic Lowell is "Bruins Country"

It's in a part of NJ where the team loyalties begin to split but I don't think it's as far from Philly as you think and it does count as "local" for some people who are in definite Flyers territory (Bucks County, especially the Yardley/Morrisville areas just across the river). It's approximately 13 miles for me to go to Trenton and about an extra 10 miles to get to South Philly although the drive times are comparable without traffic. The Sun National Bank Center is slightly closer to the Wachovia Center than it is to the Rock.

I used to go to a few games a year when they were the Titans but I think I've only been back twice since the Devils took over. If the Devils ever moved their AHL affiliation to Trenton, that might actually be enough to draw me in since the Phantoms moved out of the area and it would be the closest chance to see AHL prospects. The ECHL games alone without a rooting interest unfortunately aren't a strong enough draw for me.

  3. I'm more disappointed in the Capitals management for allowing those comments to be put up on the videobaord as well as not saying to stop throwing stuff onto the ice.

They're screened. I tried to sneak in two messages with a Flyers slant when I went down there for Game 5, and they didn't get through.

  4. What's the closest train station to the Devils practice facility at South Mountain? My cousins live not too far from there just off 280 and Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange, and I'm thinking about taking them to a Flyers/Devils game in Newark this year. (I took them to an Islanders/Devils game at CAA that was neutral for me, but I'm looking forward to attending a game that means something to all of us.)

  5. We've had our tickets for this game for sometime now and so haven't paid attention....but have they not done a good job promoting this? Reason I ask is that recently we attended an event at the Spectrum in Philly and as a result got put on a Flyers email list (corrected just now and inbox was fumigated), but yesterday an email came through from the Flyers offering tix for this game at discounted prices (same ones T-Devils STH got).

Hope we'll have a lot of Devil fans in attendance!

Anyone going to the Lowell game at 2PM? I managed a half day so we'll be there.

  6. Tom Gulitti says the Devils' new uniforms will be made public at the first preseason game in Trenton 9/17. I bet the Lowell game at 2 PM will feature the old unis, and the real new jerseys won't show up until the 7 PM Devils-Flyers game. Anybody going to the game in Trenton? Pics?
  7. I received an offer in the mail giving season ticket holders a discount on tickets. If there happens to be an opportunity to enter a password or something, enter BLACKNRED and you'll receive a discount. Not sure where to use it though
  8. Can you not buy these tickets online?

I click on the 'Buy Tickets' link and it says there are no events scheduled. Wtf?

The ComcastTix system doesn't link presales to the event listings like Ticketmaster. You need to click on the presales & promotions link in the sidebar and enter in the password to gain access to the presale listing.

  9. How do you guys usually go about getting tickets to these games? I want to get some tickets in the lower section, would scalping(sp) them be the easiest and cheapest method?

Like other said, the Flyers officially sell through ComcastTix. The system did improve over the season, but as much as it pains me to say it, there are occasions when I miss Ticketmaster.

The bargains probably won't be as good as they were last season, but I picked up tickets to several games at the end of the year through StubHub. They have an office at the Holiday Inn a few blocks from the Wachovia Center if you need to do a last minute pickup.

  10. They have an 8 game road trip from the middle of October until the beginning of November. Pretty strange for a team to have such a long road trip without some sort of extenuating circumstances.
  11. Go, wear red and black, cheer, jaw, be a smart hockey fan, you should have NO troubles.

Flyers fan chiming in - just like Masked Fan says above and others have also said, as long as you don't go overboard with your behavior, feel free to come and root for the Devils or whatever team you happen to support. Yeah, you'll hear some heckling, but as long as you don't cross the line in retaliation and keep it good natured, you'll be fine.

Just be wise enough to recognize if you're near the drunken loudmouth who wants to pick on someone and provoke a reaction, or to look at it from the other side, make sure you're not that loudmouth. Every arena has those people and it's always best to avoid them.

  12. The prices of the jerseys according to the Washington capitals site are as follows:

RBK Premier (Replica) Jersey Blank $99.99

RBK Premier (Replica) Jersey Customized $159.99

Blank authentics are rumoured to start at the $140, and $200 customized.

The replica pricing varies and I think $119.99 might end up being the suggested retail price (the teams with preorder jerseys currently available on shop.NHL.com are at that price point), although some will offer it cheaper like the Caps promo - or more like the Flyers are doing. They're charging $149 for a preorder through their team store at the Wachovia Center. From the Bruins site, I think blank authentics will be around $250.

  13. If ticket revenue is so critical, then why does it cost THE SAME to sit along the glass as it does to sit in the last row of the lower bowl ?? I'd be willing to bet we have the CHEAPEST on the glass seats in the NHL

The Flyers also have consistent pricing throughout the lower bowl, so NJ isn't the cheapest by a whopping $1, but based on what I've seen looking at ticket prices around the league, I think you're right about that being the cheapest pricing on the glass. I personally don't mind it since it means I can afford to splurge on a good lower level seat (if available) occasionally, but I think you're right in that it allows some other teams to price some seats up top more reasonably, even in the $10 range. You can get full season tickets in Anaheim on the upper ends for $495. I pay about that amount for only 11 Flyers games in a comparable seat. Yes, supply and demand factor into it, but for every time I drop my jaw to look at the high end pricing of some teams, I'm also amazed by how cheap their low end tickets are.

The ticket prices are such because the Devils get no revenue anywhere else. Most teams get a cut of the revenue, a cut of the concessions, a cut of the advertising money from signage, etc. The Devils get none of that, so they have to jack up ticket prices just so they can make money. That's another reason why they wanted a new arena, so they could tap into all of those other revenue streams.

Comcast-Spectactor owns the team and the arena here, plus they switched the ticketing over this year from Ticketmaster to in-house ticketing, yet the pricing structure between the two arenas isn't that vastly different. Maybe you'll get lucky and the new arena will allow the Devils to change their prices around a bit, but I wouldn't count on having control over other revenue having a big impact.

  14. No surprise there seeing how Hextall = God in Philly.

When did he go to LA? I thought he was the Flyers top scout.

When Dean Lombardi left to take the GM job in LA before this season, Hextall went with him to be Assistant GM.

  15. From 95-01 or so we thoroughly dominated the Flyers and their fans would pack our house. Since then the rivalry has evened up a bit and they have actually beaten us in the playoffs but you see fewer and fewer Flyers fans. Seems rather counterintuitive to me.

I certainly can't speak for other fans and their reasons for traveling, but last season was the first time I caught any Flyers road games, and there was a very healthy Flyers contingent when I went down to D.C. for a game. Standing outside the then-MCI Center before the game, you would have thought it was a Flyers home game. Even though it's a longer trip to D.C., they do have $10 Eagle's Nest seats (I don't see it this year, but last year if you bought 4 of them, they dropped to $5 each) and something like that could be a factor. The rest of the pricing structure isn't vastly different among the three arenas, though. Washington offers more than one price range in the lower level, Philly and Washington don't charge as much of a premium for upper level seats between the bluelines as NJ, but the rest of it shakes out more or less.

Personally, I don't mind the trip to NJ since I have relatives in West Orange and the drive up the Turnpike is second nature to me.

  16. Tickets go on sale 9/16. Just wondering who else is planning on coming, and do we want to sit together?

Psst...there's a presale going on now that allows you to get tickets early. I used it to get tickets for the Flyers trip out there in March. The presale code is the last name of the Stars player wearing #9. :)
