  1. UGH, I almost always attend the Devils' games in DC, but couldn't easily do so today due to work commitments.  (The fact there were NFL playoff games today and the Devils will be back in DC five days from now, a game I will attend, were also factors.)  So the Devils decide to post their most impressive win of the season tonight.  (Shakes head in personal disappointment and positive amazement.)

Good to see the Devils play such a good game even if I wasn't there to see it.

Slightly on topic....anyone have recommendations on where to send my jersey to get it re-lettered and numbered, and how much to expect it to cost?  I know I have one of the "knock offs", so would prefer not to spend a ton since the jersey itself wasn't all that expensive.

This is DevsMan84's domain, but why don't you just buy another knockoff instead and retire your Hall knockoff jersey?

how does this thread not have 100 pages already

FWIW, the Hynes firing is not being shown as one the main, current stories on the ESPN app (and that's despite the fact I have the Devils identified as one of my favorite teams).  I didn't see the news until I read a non-hockey article on the app and saw the story headline underneath the story I was reading.  (I don't live in north Jersey, and I don't receive sports notifications on any app because I don't want my smartphone buzzing every 5 minutes, so those things are part of it too.)

  4. The Hynes firing needed to happen, but considering the Devils still have a weak defensive group and very weak goaltending, and Ray Shero has been on the job for 4+ seasons, one could argue his failures at building the roster were/are a bigger problem than Hynes’ coaching. Time will tell.

  5. meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

i hate that it's nas but its just to do something.

You really need to quote a Bruce Springsteen lyric rather than a lyric by The Who. [emoji6]

"Josh Harris and David Blitzer are not impulsive men. Just look at their other sports properties. Brett Brown will enter his seventh season with their 76ers despite a .362 winning percentage and back-to-back losses in the Eastern Conference semifinals."
That doesnt bode well for Devils fans. If H&B tolerate losing, wtf.

Basketball is a different game than hockey - 1-2 great players can turn into a bad basketball team into a very good one instantaneously. Everyone knew the 76ers were going to be bad in the Sam Hinkie “trust the process” years, including the 76ers themselves, and the franchise thought if it stockpiled enough high draft picks, it would get those 1-2 great players. (For whatever it is worth, as a 76ers fan I never fully trusted Sam Stinkie’s process.)

What I said above isn’t true in hockey. Much like baseball, you need a handful of at least good to very good players to have the kind of depth to develop a good team. You can’t just stockpile draft picks. And the Devils’ moves this past offseason, coming after a disappointing season that itself followed a semi-surprising playoff season, yelled “we’re intending to get back to playoff contention now”.

I don’t think any sort of move with Hynes will occur in immediate future, but the ice he’s skating on is getting thinner. If the Devils don’t start playing better, I could see Hynes getting axed as early as the end of November.

I'm gonna go throw up and then try to fall asleep.  Good night.

I didn't watch the entire game, but the portion I saw (most of the 3rd period) was so God damn boring and terrible it was hard to stay awake.

Mr Shero, this team has fvcking 0 identity

What are you talking about?  The Devils' identity so far is that they suck defensively, and when they don't suck defensively, they suck offensively.

  9. I was just going to say before that last Flyers goal that you know a game is going badly when the announcers are focusing more on talking about human interest stories than the game in front of them despite the fact the trailing team desperately needs to generate offensive pressure.

I wanna stay optimistic but you and I both know the next goal that's scored is going to be by the Flyers.

I'm just wondering when the Devils are going to score their next goal with the way this game has been going.

  11. The one thing I'll say in a positive vein is last year the Devils got off to a 4-0 start, things looked great, and then everything turned to crap.  It is possible the Devils will turn things around this season after a slow start.  At least I hope so.

Severson was a -4 last night...now -91 for his career.

Not saying that the final result was all on him, but goddamn the minuses sure have a way of finding him...

Whenever the Devils are pinned in their own end, it seems like Severson is on the ice 80-90% of the time.

I don’t follow the Devils as closely as most people on here, but to me Severson’s career has been on a gradual but constant downward slide after he got off to a good start early in his rookie year.

It’s hard to be -4 in a game when your team scores 4 goals in that game.

  13. Came in cold in the third and the team forgot how to play defense.

Winnipeg was getting good shots throughout much of the 2nd period, but Schneider was playing very well...

The defense has been a little shaky for much of the game, but the goaltending has fallen off.

  14. Zajac doesn’t deserve to have his jersey retired, but he’s been a solid player for a long, long time. If the Devils restart their Ring of Honor, he would definitely deserve to be inducted into that group.

Zajac IMO is actually a 1990s/2000s type of Devils player, but unlike the great, very good, and good players who played on those past Devils teams who were surrounded by many other quality players, Zajac hasn’t had much around him quality player-wise in recent years. Unlike many Devils players of recent years, Zajac could have played on those very good, past Devils teams and been a useful piece of puzzle in helping them win.

I rarely post here (not because of the people here, but because I’m more of a casual hockey fan and don’t live in north Jersey to boot), but yeah - when you can playfully make fun of other people and they do the same in return, it’s a sign of friendship. It builds camaraderie. Being overly sensitive when people disagree with you most assuredly does not build camaraderie and ultimately annoys a lot of people.

  16. I mock everyone, when it’s deserved. Even my wife and my daughter. As they do to me. It’s called having a sense of humor, if you can’t mock your friends, and your friends can’t mock you, that’s a problem.
So I refuse to treat you differently than I treat my friends. I’d suggest growing a pair and rolling with it.
