Devils left wing Zach Parise would be a restricted free agent after 2010-11 season

Before anyone gets carried away with a report elsewhere, Devils left wing Zach Parise is slated to be a RESTRICTED free agent when his contract runs out following the 2010-11 season and not an unrestricted free agent.

To be an unrestricted free agent, Parise would have to be 27 or have seven seasons of NHL experience on June 30, 2011. Parise won’t turn 27 until July 28, 2011 and will have only six NHL seasons under his belt at the conclusion of 2010-11.

Furthermore, there is already speculation that the owners will push for an increase in the age for unrestricted free agency when the current collective bargaining agreement expires. The CBA is set to expire in September of 2011, but the NHL Players’ Association has an option to extend it for another season. If there CBA were renegotiated before the 2011-12 season, there’s even a slim possibility that Parise would not be unrestricted at the end of that season (if he chose to re-sign for only one year and the age for free agency went up).

After this news about Parise I am not worried at all as Parise will get resigned to a long term deal and will be the next Devils captain. No worries about Parise.
