  1. Salvador needed to walk after the cup run really. We we're not sure what we had in our kids yet at that point and when they could jump in the NHL but we could have certainly try them or get someone cheaper than Salvador for a few more years.

Having Larsson rotting in the AHL is absolutely disgusting.

  2. Great, Detroit wins in OT. Worst possible result for us. But that's pretty much the way its gone this year.

its gonna be like that til the rest of the season for sure, every single extra points between teams ahead of us will go

  3. Personally i love it cause it gives me access to the games everywhere. If im at my buddies place i can still log in there on their PS3, Apple tv, computer or wtv and watch it, can watch on my ipad, iphone anywhere while im on the go too. You can re-watch games, rewind during games. Watch many games at the same time. Choose your feed/announcers.

Sucks that there's no playoffs thought and blackouts sucks too when games are on tv and that im stuck at the office with no cable. then i need to find the game online somewhere.

basically it just gives you a lot more access to you games. Than through cable where you pretty much have to be home to get the games

  4. lol what you were the one who brought up jagr's name in a thread about Callahan. How is that not a comparison? If you didn't mean to that's fine but don't be surprised or offended when I take it that way and try to have a conversation about it. Sheesh.

I brought it up cause thats what the discussion i was referring to was about, it was not my discussion. Some people arguing with Brown wtv about it.

  5. You could have made an argument for trading Clarkson last year but the Devils were still in a playoff position at the deadline.

Can the Rangers actually trade Callahan first before we start comparing it to Zach? The Kings were going to trade Dustin Brown two years ago too but that never happened. I'm still skeptical they trade him, but if they do it could well be in a package for an established scoring forward as opposed to just auctioning him off for futures.

of course but again for the last time, at least by sitting with the guy and talking contract it gives you the chances to take a step back and make a decision and decide what's the best thing to do for the present AND the future, then you decide if you're willing to gamble. Cause you know the players demand, your chance of keeping him and you know you're playoffs chances. It gives you options to actually make a decision without being fvcked by a ridiculous demand or anything else that could go wrong and if you choose to part ways strictly based on demands well you can get a better return.

im beyond disbelief that people can't "agree" about this common sense to at least TALK (not sign / trade) during the season, it absolutely wouldnt hurt to at least try. But of course people dont accept it simply cause its lou's way so they dont want to go against it.

  6. if that is truly the case that's fair but you specifically said captain, hence my assumption that you were talking about parise.wtv it not worth getting into.

So on your comparison of Callahan and jagr- I believe Lou will shop jagr just to see what he might be able to get, but I think (and Lou might think) that unless it's a slam dunk ie an nhl ready forward, it's better to hang onto him, play out the season, and maybe re-sign him for next year.

As opposed to Callahan, who clearly is not a ranger after this year and might be able to bring back an nhl ready player. I don't want a just first round pick for jagr, and by the looks of it Dolan doesn't want just a pick for Callahan.

listen. I did not make any comparison at all.

This is a case of a guy saying "You'll never see a pig fly you're an idiot for thinking it would ever happen" and then one day you see a pig fly and you take a picture and send it to that guy with a "Ha!"

    That's all it was.

  7. Wrong, I've barely responded to anything you've posted lately, with the exception of you being a sore winner in the Olympic thread.

I've already pointed out why I think Lou rolled the dice in 2013.  Assuming Lou did decide to subscribe to the SD way of GMing and chose to talk contract in-season, and Clarkson's demands were too much, knowing that Clarkson was probably not going to bring back anything that could help the Devils on 2013 (and probably nothing significant anyway) when Lou clearly didn't want to bail out on that season (like I said, I think Lou felt Clarkson could still help that team before it all went to sh!t), I don't think Lou necessarily throws his arms up and shrieks "OMG, I'd better trade this guy for a draft pick or two that might help us in three years before I lose him for nothing!"  Lou wasn't thinking about 2015 and beyond after getting to a Cup final in 2012.

lol its not the SD way, its the every single GMs in the league except Lou way.

and again you're twisting what you want to believe to make Lou look good on that one as most of you does. Clarkson could have got a pretty good return at that time, absolutely. Not saying he's worth his contract but a player like that for the playoffs and at that time most teams still thought he was really a 30 goals scorer who could do it all. And based on the offers he got on free agency. Pretty damn sure we could have got anything better than NOTHING, and yeah. He was incredibly useful in the playoffs last year right?

and again, what you simply refuse to understand from what ive been saying for years. It's not about specifically what "happened" in those cases, cause every single cases are different and there's lots of shades and stuff we dont know. What i've been pointing out is that its absolutely dumb to refuse to give you that extra tool through negotiations to talk during the season. It's a really cocky, stubborn, "go big or go home" and black and white way to go and it can be pretty bad when he doesnt go your way and the benefits are not great or different either.

I dont CARE that his track record is good. I could decide that im not looking both ways before crossing the streets anymore and dont get hit for the first 3 years. Doesnt mean it's a smart thing to do.

  8. You just cannot WAIT for chances to snivel about Lou's MO (I think EVERYONE here has gotten your point by now).

As far as Clarkson goes, Lou rolled the dice and lost...that can and will sometimes happen, and all of the hindsight bitching, moaning, and should'ves won't change that.  GMs sometimes take chances and they don't all pay off, which opens them up to being criticized and second-guessed.  At the time, the Devils didn't have much in the way of goal-scoring, and Clarkson's recent track record, right or wrong, had suggested that he could score.  Unforunately we're seeing more and more that the 30 goals he scored in 2011-12 and the 10 goals he scored in 14 GP to start the 2013 season were flukey and probably won't ever happen again...basically, the "slump" Lou was probably hoping Clarkson would eventually break out of isn't a slump as much as it was Clarkson turning back into Clarkson again (almost overnight).  Just glad it's the Maple Leafs that are learning it the hard way.

Devils had come within two games of winning a SC the season before and Lou likely thought they could at least pull it together enough to get into the playoffs, and thought guys like Clarkson would give the Devils the best chance to make that happen...he chose the present instead of the future.  Sadly, it didn't work out.

and you just cannot WAIT for chances to snivel at me, cause really you dont miss a single chance

and no Lou didnt "roll the dice" he went with his black and white ways of NOT talking during the season. Thats not gambling, thats following a dumb way to do things and refusing to adapt to situations

I apologize if you think I was putting words in your mouth, but if you weren't talking about parise the who were you referring to? What other captain have we've had in his walk year during a playoff run? What other captain leaving via ufa after a playoff run has been debated on here by you ad nauseum? If it isn't zach, then what point are you trying to make on a devils board by arguing whether or not gms trade a their captain during a playoff run? No, I don't think I put words in you mouth, I think you've been putting them there yourself for the past year and a half.

I was referring to Brown wtv who said that the other day when people we're saying that maybe we should trade Jagr or wtv or assets. And that he was saying that no GM would trade players when they are in a race.

  9. sather spoke with Callahan and realized that he is almost certainly too pricey for the rangers next season. If Callahan gets traded, it's because he 100% won't be re-signing. When Lou kept zach, that offseason he made him a competitive offer that might very well have kept him here if not for suter. I don't see the comparison here at all.

lol you don't see a comparison? I dont even see me bringing up Zach or any names or any comparisons at all. Putting words in my mouth again?

edit: just for fun, since you brought it up now. How 'bout clarkson? At the price he wanted and the fact that Lou gave up on him even before the deadline he was 100% not resigning too, but Lou waiting after it was too late fvcked our chances to get a return.

  10. just read this on Hockey30 (from Quebec)

Pretty much saying that Brodeur's name is circulating a lot in Minnesota and that both of his kids is going to Shattuck-St. Mary right now in Minnesota and that he'd be excited to join them.

  11. Besides Kovalchuck, who else that's huge are we losing?  We're only losing Jagr, but the team is lucky that he is producing at the rate he has up to this point.  It's a matter of turning this forward corps into a productive unit because if you look at the forwards we have signed past the end of this year, its not likely that they are moving, particularly Clowe, Brunner, Ryder.  All the team can do from here is try to draft and develop some young forwards.  You can count on maybe one forward free agent or less next offseason.  Don't expect anything like last summer.

what i mean is that since our cup run, we lost quite a bit of our scoring. We won a LOT of close games that year to even make it in the playoffs still and we got Zach, Kovy, Sykora and Clarkson's production gone. Replaced it by Jagr, Ryder, Clowe, ryder... Elias production is going down too and a few other guys are aging like Zubby.

and i mean if we really look into it... we need to ADD production, and year after year were just barely replacing what's leaving/dropping... so the lack is still there and i simply dont see how we'll recover in the long run

  12. Wait, can we talk about Parise getting called a grinder in this thread? Clarkson is a glorified grinder, Parise is one of the best two way forwards in the NHL. Hate him or still love him after he left, you can't deny it. No he was never a big game player, but you could count on getting his everything every time he laced up the skates for us. If he came back right now, he'd be our best forward. T

he hate for his game is stupid, and even though it's in the rearview for me at this point, he played hard against Canada. He put up shots and won almost every puck battle along the boards, it wasn't his fault that nobody could handle pucks in the offensive zone.

completely agree. i still can't believe the sh!t that has been said about him since he left. They'll focus on some negative but then will defend Zajac saying he's doing SO MUCH that doesnt show on the scoreboard. No one was doing more "off scoresheet" thing for the team on the ice than Zach.

Losing him was the tipping point of the trouble were in right now, it all snowballed from there.

  13. I think what he's saying is that there's a great foundation in place for defense and goaltending going ahead, which opens the Devils up to spend some money on goal scoring.

ah well yeah of course, every single Devils fans knows that. But buying goal scoring isnt cheap and it's still really up in the air. We don't have enough already plus we KNOW we're losing a good chunk of it soon. We keep losing big chunks of scoring replacing it with less and less. Thats not gonna cut it

  14. The one thing I would tweak is that, if CS resigns our team defensivley will be among the best in the league. We have a pretty stellar defensive prospect pool and young promising Defensemen, couple that with Cory and we have a VERY solid foundation. So our offense looks bleak but its not all doom and gloom, we do have some things going for us.

yes but even though i know defence win championships, having goal supports is a damn great luxury. You NEED goals to win no matter what. That it's late in SO or during the game. And you can play the best defence ever in a game, puck will still get through with badluck or deflections or wtv, you can never rely on "not having to score too many goals"

and you need those guys who can score when you need it the most, we have too many "supporting cast scorers" who will score once in awhile

  15. His antics are always a source of rumours, but they are not relevant in this discussion about winning a Norris or where his points come from or even about him playing on Team Canada (seems like he got along with everyone there). I'll take Subban any day (all the reported baggage can come with him too)

No they were not rumours, came STRAIGHT out of his teammates and coaches mouth. Often on camera or in interviews. How many players in the league fought with almost half of his teammates during practice really? lol

  16. So bullsh!t that he won the award for the games that actually happened The voters should have taken into account what would have OBVIOUSLY happened if there were more games in the regular season.

"All his points are on the PP almost." 19 of his 38 points are from the PP. I don't know seems pretty even to me...is one better than the other?

PK Subban is an excellent NHL player. There was a spot for him to play. He should have dressed over Hamhuis, but it did seem the coaching staff was a little scared. He wouldn't have improved their defense, but if they ever fuond themselves losing (something they never did in the entire tournament), he would have been a nice help.

Subban brings offence of course but also brings lots of risks and always trying to do too much. While all the other guys we're bringing offence and a better defensive play and are all easier to play with. Subban is known for being hard to play with, Markov is REALLY often bitching about him publicly or even refusing to talk about him.

Its not bashing the guy saying that other guys we're safer than him and easier to coach too. Also Hamhuis is not the same kind of player and he's a lefty so it's irrelevant.

They we're more scared to get the "bad" side of Subban than his good side on the big stage and it's totally fair. You may not be aware of all his antics since youre not following all the medias in MTL but the guy is really not easy to deal with. Not even kidding the whole team we're rooming 2 guys per room and they've put Subban in a room by himself. Not. Even. Kidding.

  17. Oh right, I forgot about this.  Why was he benched?

well simply cause there was 6 better dmen for the job lol

the norris was bullsh!t last year, he won before his stats could drop. Just like Gelinas after awhile teams knows what he'll do and they take away his space. All his points are on the PP almost. So im pretty damn confident that over a full season he was not getting it.

  18. I mean were really not a great position for the future, we'll need scoring and it won't come from our prospects that we have so far. It will have to come from free agents or guys we get through trades.

The scoring we'll get from boucher or Matteau or wtv will only be covering a small hole left by other guys leaving. And it really won't compensate.
