  1. People are oohing and aahing over Alonso and Lindor and those impressive RBI totals...the two guys that I feel are the unsung heroes on this team are Marte and Canha. Just two solid, veteran, professional good hitters who always have a plan at the plate. Both have had so many key at bats...drawing key walks, getting important late game hits.

Trevor Williams held it together through 4. Can't ask for much more from him. We're in the 5th and the Mets are still very much alive in this game.

  2. And with the Dodgers hitters...you're telling me that they're conceding essentially only down 5? The Dodgers can easily put 5 up in an inning. What on earth was that about? Frankly imho no position player should ever take the mound unless it's a 9 run deficit

Alonso…just…damn.  A 1.093 OPS and 32 RBI over his last 26 GP.  That’s just an insane burst.  And Lindor keeps on driving them in too; 22 RBI over his last 12 GP.

Peterson has now walked 8 hitters over his last two starts (only managing 8.1 IP), and he’s never had much control to begin with.  He’s definitely a concern.

But just glad to see this team get a win…a chance for a series split is still alive.

On a side note, the Angels…ouch.  10 straight losses to fall to .500.  Maybe they won’t be as tough of an opponent as we may have originally thought.

That or they're due to turn it around and we're gonna catch them at the wrong time...

  3. That was such a huge win last night. At 4-1 I thought here we go again, the offensive slump will continue and we're in for a disaster of a road trip that spirals out of control, but they battled back and a combo of relievers totally shut down the Dodgers impressive offense. Not optimistic today with Trevor Williams...but last night was a big win

That Braves run that we all think could happen at some point may not be that legit of a concern…Alonso pretty much has as many RBI as the Braves’ top two RBI guys COMBINED.  Coming into tonight, they’re batting .232 as a team,  and under league average in runs scored.  Can’t rule out them getting hot eventually, but they’re already at the point where they’ll need a lot of help from others.  They do have a lot of games left against the Mets…but they’re going to have to win a lot of ‘em to have any chance at all.

And (God Willing) in those games they'll be staring down deGrom/Scherzer/Bassitt in those games. Hopefully by July 11 we can have deGrom back as he does appear to be progressing nicely. Maybe we'll have both as it's 5+ weeks away. And also how on earth, 50 games in have we not even seen the Marlins yet? And we won't see them at all until 66 games in. Just bizarre

Starting to wonder if the Freeman thing just ripped the heart out of the Braves. I don't get how does Olson only have 17 rbi's right now. And they're striking out at an insane rate. Most K's in all of baseball as a team. Weirdly they've hit the 5th most home runs but are 17th in runs scored. Basically if they're not hitting solo shots...they're not doing anything

  5. Cano is soldiering on an ugly shell of his former self, getting paid and trying to get to 3,000 (2,635...but that seems forever away with how bad he's playing). He looks deader as a Padre than he did as a Met. I can't even see him finishing the season on an MLB roster playing this poorly.

Was a bit concerned last night down 3-0. And Fedde actually had been decent this year (though hadn't had a good career) But the Mets woke up and absolutely bludgeoned him. There was a stretch I believe where Guillorme/Marte/Lindor had been up a combined 9 times in the game and none had been retired. Not a one. 8 hits and one walk. That's incredible

Canha and Marte have been so good. Real solid professional hitters. And guys that work the count, get on base, and do all the little things right. It's nice to have a game where Alonso/McNeil can go 1 for 9 and our offense still explodes. Alonso had a late homer to fatten his stats but in reality both were non factors.

I’m no longer worried about the Phillies…they came up way too small.  The last thing that they ever could’ve afforded was a sweep…especially losing the way that they did in the deciding game.

I can’t say the about the Braves just yet.  Keep waiting for them to go on that “OK, here they come” 10-2 kind of run.

Would be awesome if the Mets could sweep the Nats here…just to have that much more leeway when they go on the Cali road trip.  I would take 4-6 on that trip, honestly.

Just want to say fvck the schedule makers. AGAIN back out west. We were just there for 8...now after 6 at home they kick us out west again for 10 with the ultimate gauntlet of LA, SD, and the Angels. Seems like at least a month long (or at least 3 week) break between west coast trips would've been reasonable...this doesn't seem reasonable.

  7. Escobar needed that. Holy sh!t did he ever. We really need him to get more involved in the offense and driving in runs

I remember seeing the lineup card before the game...who the hell is Nick Plummer!? Well, now I know. When you have moments like that you begin to really think this could be a special season

And what an absolute gut punch sweep for the Phillies. Gotta think major changes are in store there.

The bullpen is a problem and we cannot think that we have all the time in the world to fix it. With what happened to Drew Smith, the mid/late innings are gonna get dicier and dicier. Most times we're not gonna get Nick Plummer magic like today. They really need to fortify things back there. They're gonna lose some bad ones in the future due to the pen, that's a given and we have to prepare for it...luckily we have a nice cushion and a good hitting team.

  8. That was an important one to get. If you look at the rest of the series...Elfin vs Walker, Wheeler vs who knows who. We wouldn't have been in the best of shape the rest of the way if we dropped last night especially in that fashion. Phillies offense can be dangerous and in spurts they can do a lot of damage. They're mired as this .500 ish team underachieving...but I'm always wary of them with that offense. They can be dead for 5 innings and then boom...6 runs in an inning. Especially vs a fragile pitcher like Carrasco or Walker.

  9. Really really needed to hold onto this, just for the fact you dont want the Phils throw a 7-0 comeback back in your face. I was just about to say some nice things about Carrasco too, but there he went totally imploding (and the implosion started at only 70something pitches too)

  10. Well finally in comes Lugo to put out the fire. But you can't really trust him much either. And God help Diaz if they bring him in and he blows this. He tends to choke in bunches. Big bunches. And he's coming off a bad one in San Fran. Awful feeling about this

BTW Mets now leading MLB in team BA (.263) and are second in OB% (.334).  Their BA is 25 points above league average.  Hope they can keep that up…I suspect they’ll need to.

You know I wouldn't think it...would've guessed top 10 but not MLB leading. Seems like the last few years we were a team that had a fairly avg on base percentage but with a team batting average in the lower 3rd of the league. We had many a stretch under Callaway...under Rojas where we'd play three consecutive games and total maybe 15 hits and 2 runs. When they hit the skids it would be ugly

  12. Didn't see it but man that must've been crushing. And you had 2 out nobody on, and this clown completes the guy punch after the double play. Couldn't get one more out. I know he's been good for the most part this year but I can tell you now, if we get to the postseason Diaz will wreck our season. He is not a bigtime reliever and you will never be able to trust him in a big spot. This would've been such a nice game to get. And of course it isn't all on him, Drew Smith takes a huge amount of blame as well.

The starting pitching for this team is in a precarious state now. Games like this can snowball if you get a bad start the next day.

Also when I start seeing stuff like 13-12 again makes me wonder if Rob Manfred has secretly swapped out those deadened, humidor ball for those juiced balls again we used in previous years

  13. Was a bit worried last night with Peterson on the hill that things could get a bit out of control at 5-2 and Peterson hitting Flores, that he may let this game get out of hand and all of a sudden we're in a late night slugfest, but he got the double play, settled the game down, and the Mets offense had itself a night

Lindor had his moment last night, but still...1-5. He's on pace for 96 rbi's but that average at sub .240, that's pretty ugly. McNeil is hitting, Alonso is up in the .280s which is rarified air I never thought he'd reach (and the 40 rbi's is pretty insane for May 24th). Yet Lindor still stumbles around the .230s and has for quite some time.

Eduardo Escobar with a few hits last night...needed to see that. He hasn't been good with the bat all year and not much attention has been given to it with the team winning. But down the line when Alonso is slumping or McNeil goes a week where he can't get a hit, we may need someone like Escobar to pick things up. He hasn't done much all year

  14. We're roasting in an inferno here meanwhile out in Colorado it's snow postponements in late May

Amazing that the Bartolo Colon rumors started up again. I mean he's what 48...49 years old. I think he did pitch last year in the Mexican league. Doubt he could do much in the pro's at this point as he was getting beat up pretty badly his final season in the bigs and that was four years ago. But seems like he's still hanging around waiting for a call

  15. One thing about the Mets is this year they have the manager, they have the division falling in their favor, and they do have the committed and dedicated owner with a full year under his belt ready to spend, and if need be, buy his way out of an injury rut. This is going to be a tough stretch to get through until one of Scherzer or deGrom is able to return. We've got 3 more games coming up in San Fran and the killer 10 game west coast swing (Dodgers/Padres/Angels) it's key that they don't fall into one of those 2 wins in 11 games type tailspins that have short circuited previous seasons.

If they want to make a move to Montas then go out and get him early if you can. Hopefully have him by early June and that rough part of the sched. There are other stopgap types that we can look at...Drew Smyly, Zach Davies. I would certainly call the DBacks about Bumgarner.
