deGrom doing exactly what Scherzer just did is pretty much a given isnt it
-
And a big 1st inning missed opportunity. 1st and 3rd 1 out. 0 runs. Pete goes into an 0-2 hole then watches strike 3. Then Vogelbach hacks at an eye high pitch...which almost goes out (because we're the Mets it's always almost) and flies out
-
And that's game. Bell...this is a guy WE SHOULDVE gotten. Instead of sh!ts like Naquin and Ruf.
Mets wont touch Darvish
-
Horrible. A lucky Pads blooper and an obvious missed strike 3. But Max K's Soto
Let's put up a 0 this inning Max

I hear you on the bolded '7'. It's amazing how one series took so much starch out of the season. Of course I'll be rooting hard as hell for them, but I can see a two-game sweep by the hands of the Padres, where the Mets lose each game 3-0, 4-2 or thereabouts, with a couple of teases of getting closer late, and guys like Lindor and Alonso whiffing or popping up into the infield. Basically where the Mets were in each game just enough to frustrate the hell out of all of us.
That I can see...especially since we have to deal with Darvish who is a career 5-0 against us with a 2.56 era. I'd be very worried if we fall behind in a game vs SD with Darvish on the hill. It's absolutely crucial to get early leads.

Wow this went from same old sh!t for fifty plus minutes to...holy sh!t
And yeah Saleh's D has got to be better, they have to be more disciplined, but besides actual competitiveness the goal this season is to see Zach do well. And after a really rusty start he manned up down the stretch. It'd be nice to see our other team man up like that lol
A big plus was secondary play last Sunday. All the miscommunications and blown assignments seem to have been ironed out. Joyner had himself a great game out of nowhere and Reed/Sauce continue to be good
Some issues remain with Zach. Dumb play in certain situations (end of the half) where you just take the 3, go up 2 scores and get the ball back after the half. As well as accuracy on short passes. But no way, no way in hell does a Sam Darnold ever go into Pitt and rally them back from multiple scores in the 4th

fwiw (and this was much worse than the Mets this year) the 2006 Tigers were up 7.5 on August 22nd. They went 14-22 down the stretch, lost the AL Central to the Twins
Twins were swept in the first round. The collapsing Tigers won playoff series vs the Yankees and A's and made the World Series. Hopefully the Mets story arc is similar to that
If they can beat the Padres that would take some sting out of losing the division. Unfortunately it looks like slow healer Marte won't be ready for it...shame he's a real difference maker for us

This is probably the emptiest 100 (maybe even 101) win season I have ever experienced. In the long run yes it's a positive...Cohen owns them now. This is the first year of the Mets truly being back and being a force. They won't fall back into irrelevance and mediocrity like after 2015-16. This isn't just some one year spurt, Cohen is definitely going to make sure the team is competitive and contending every year if possible.
Tough to look at a bright side but...I don't know maybe this fires them up. Angers them a bit. Gets them wanting to shove it down the throat of those who have been mocking them of late. This is nothing like 07-08...season isn't over. They won a ton of games and are in it. Hopefully Scherzer and deGrom are absolutely laser focused to go out there and bury the Padres. And yea while it is vs crap pitching...at least the bats are getting hot. That's so critical heading in, doesn't matter how many games you've won or what your stats were during the regular season, heading into the playoffs with a confident hitting team and on a bit of a roll matters.
-
you saw it in their quotes yesterday, they were gutless and defeated.
-
6 left on base already
That will come back to haunt us
-
And the Mets have started this game...exactly how we expected. Blowing a chance and then immediately trailing
-
Completely emotionally spent and speechless. AGAIN. they did it again somehow. Not the same as Cleveland but holy sh!t. Two MIRACLES. absolute miracles that we never get.
The Jets will win games like this...once every 8 years or so it seems. Unreal
And yes a lot of awful stuff to clean up. Their play going into, and coming out of the half was so sloppy, stupid...just lack of awareness of situational football. At 10-0 I was impressed with them, but then the SOJ surfaced...and then the Kardiac Kids appeared.
-
The gutlessness will continue tomorrow. It'll be a sweep. They're folding and a dead team walking. And this will likely psychologically cripple them too. They wont make it out of the Wild Card. Losing the division is an embarrassment
Why the hell are sh!ts like Naquin and green rookies like Alvarez even getting at bats (cost us yest) in these games. This is why you needed a bat at the deadline Eppler
I'd go in draftkings right now and put $ on Morton not giving up a run tomorrow
-
And there goes the division off the bat off Swanson. In a big spot, they collapsed. gutlessly
better ready for that wild card game
-
There's the dagger. This team better wake up tomorrow. Playing like scared losers now
-
and of course Alonso hits into the Mets 2nd crippling DP of the day. At least Fried is out...but it wont matter
-
Mets have gotten the white flag out. 7 pitch inning for Fried. This one feels over. deGroms choke job when we needed him to be sharp broke their backs
a 7 pitch 4th from Fried what the fvck seriously?
-
All on Scherzers shoulders tomorrow
something has to be wrong with deGrom. That they're hushing
-
Are you fvcking kidding me with this clown. What happened to you
-
god dammit deGrom.
ARE YOU OR ARE YOU NOT STILL A BIGTIME PITCHER.
-
Awful start for Alvarez. 1st and 2nd 0 out but he immediately double plays
Thankfully Guillorme singles in a run.
1-0 Mets. Make it stick deGrom
-
Turns out the bat we needed at the deadline was Escobar. When Lindor and Pete come up small (and yes as CR has stated...in a big spot you can tame them) but Escobar the last month, has been the real MVP
Mattingly as a manager is kinda like Callaway without the creepyness. He just doesnt have a good feel for the game. He's a bad manager

NATS WON. Thank you thank you thank you
Looks like it rests on degrom and scherzer. But HOW THE HELL do you not win it there. Alonso and Lindor...bad omen
-
This just feels like a baseball gods tease. Get our hopes up, and then the Mets choke it up and lose and Atlanta wins

Wonderful. And the Mets strand Marte at 3rd with less than 2 out because Escomoron needs to hack at a floaty ball 4 up and away
