Not saying that both didn't suck...just that in 2006, it wasn't some choke job...Devils were down 3-0 in that series before you could blink.  In 2009...well, we know how quickly that fell apart.

That 2006 loss was hard to take because of how hard it crashed. We didn't choke it away but personally, I found it harder to accept than the 2009 Game 7 debacle.

In 2006, the Devils simply ran out of steam after getting on that insane roll to close out the regular season and sweep the Rangers...they didn't choke in losing in 5 to the Canes.  You're thinking of 2009.

They’re both bad! Nic Wallin, Eric Staal, pick your poison. Staal killed us both years.

Graves isn't physical enough. Severson maybe. Siegenthaler maybe. Would be great to see Bahl develop in this role. The guy is 6'6" and has shown to have a mean streak at times.  Anyway, Bastian is the most physical player out of all of them despite not being a defenseman. That's why I listed his name. We need grit badly.

During the season Marino was often down low with Kreider on the penalty kill but did not play him physically from what I remember.

This absolutely needs to be addressed. We allowed too much traffic in front of Vanacek, and we didn’t generate nearly enough traffic in front of Shesterkin.

It’s a defenseman’s job and yes it needs to be addressed

If tonite was a true reflection of the disparity between the NJ defense and the NYR forecheck, this series will be over in a blink, and deservedly so.

I don't think it is a true reflection, I'm not willing to give the Rangers that much credit. I also think that the Devils have the capability of coming at the Rangers in waves, rolling four lines and dominating at even strength.

Or, we could get swept and bow out meekly. That would be surprising and disappointing.

Fortunes can change quickly in the playoffs, and what was true one game might not be so in the next.

If we lose Game 2 (looking too far ahead, I know), we could see Schmid and we could see Luke Hughes, too. I'm guessing Lindy won't do too much different in Game 2, but I could see Brendan Smith in for Bahl or Miles Wood being replaced. Benching Graves would be pretty drastic.
