  1. I’m pretty done with Santini at this point, I don’t like giving up on young defensemen but what’s the best we can hope for out of this guy at this point? A low end bottom pair defensemen? His hands are nonexistent and his decisions with the puck suck, keep him in for the tank sure but I don’t want this guy anywhere near my team after this season. He’s been so bad lately, especially tonight

It’s sad to see how badly Wysh sold his soul to the corporate machine

To be honest, Puck Soup is the only place I can hear Wysh still be Wysh nowadays. Think the podcast is much better now too with Ryan Lambert and Down Goes Brown as his co-hosts instead of Dave Lozo, I got kind of tired of Lozo's hate everything shtick.

  3. I'm happy with this, I really feel as though if we fired Hynes we could kiss Taylor Hall goodbye as well. The players love him, and having a consistent guy at the helm helps us build an identity for the team. Also don't think the team has been as bad as they're made out to be, funny thing that we start to win some games now that we have a goalie that's actually making some saves.

  4. I'm kind of a Boqvist fan girl, think he's probably our most skilled prospect at forward and I think he could develop into a real good top 6 forward for us. What he's doing over in the SHL is impressive at his age and I hope he gets a legitimate look next season.

  5. Figured I may as well get a thread up since it's already 3:00. Looks like Hall back tonight and Stafford out, obviously have one of the best teams in the NHL coming in to play us tonight. LGD

    Mueller - Lovejoy

    Kinkaid

    VS

    Hyman - Tavares - Marner
    Johnsson - Matthews - Kapanen

    Grumble grumble.

I wouldn't quite agree with that assessment. Sure, he's not McDavid, but I think he's right in there with Matthews and Eichel, only thing Hughes doesn't have that those other two do is size as Hughes only stands at 5'10".

EDIT: For the record, I would put Hughes below Matthews and above Eichel. If you have a player sandwiched in between those guys, you have yourself an elite, star #1 center either way.

The St. Louis Blues have informed teams that all players are available, including Vladimir Tarasenko, per Jeremy Rutherford. #STlBluesStLouisBluesNHL.png

There's quite a few players off that Blues team that I like, obviously Tarasenko and Pietrangelo at the top of the list. O'Reilly, Schenn, and Parayko are all great as well, I really like Jaden Schwartz but I feel like he's had some injury issues which is a red flag.

In terms of who the Blues top players are, it fits what the Devils need pretty well (RW, top 6 center, stud defenseman), I just can't imagine what it would take to get someone like Tarasenko, Pietrangelo, or Parayko. If I were Ray, I'd obviously be kicking the tires though, Blues have a ton of good pieces and if they're selling off I would love to get one of them.

  8. I'm not really sure why you're basing your entire evaluation off of basically just one stat? Based off that logic, Xavier Ouellet, Braydon Coburn, and Dan Girardi should be in the Norris conversation based off xGF% alone. Advanced stats are not the be-all-end-all of player evaluation, they're really just a tool and stats can produce some anomalies that you need to write off as just that - anomalies. Greene's xGF% is so high because his expected Goals For rate is so high (in the 96th percentile), which I can't really explain but I would assume it's from players like Hall pumping up his HDCF share when they're on the ice together, while his expected Goals Against is far less generous in the 35th percentile.

If you're looking for a catch all stat (which I don't believe there is a proper one), a lot of people have gravitated towards Game Score, where Andy Greene ranks 149th out of 192 defensemen with a minimum of 200 minutes played.

  9. I think the expansion to Seattle is very exciting for the league, Seattle is a great sports town and I think the NHL is going to do really well there, especially since there's quite a few WHL teams playing in Washington already with the Thunderbirds, Spokane Chiefs, Everett Silvertips, Tri-City Americans, and then the Winterhawks down in Portland. Vegas was the risky expansion move for the NHL, but I think Seattle is a shoe-in success, really excited for 2021.

  10. LGD, hopefully McLeod can come in and bring some energy and speed while he's out there. I like the message Hynes and the staff are giving him, "Come in and steal someone's job." Letting him know up front, work hard and bring your best and you can hang here, hopefully Mikey makes good on that and brings it tonight.

  11. I've been to hockey events in Buffalo a few times: a Devils game early in the 2015-16 season, the 2016 Draft, and a few games at last year's World Juniors. At least from my impression, the fans in Buffalo were pretty knowledgeable, gracious, and it just seemed like they were dying to finally have a good team to root for, at least those are the fans that I encountered.

It could just be me as a Bills fan being happy for the other Buffalo team, but I'm really happy to see the Sabres going on this run. At least all the fans I've encountered, they deserve it, and Jack Eichel also happens to be one of my favorite non-Devils.

  12. I also posted my first mock draft of the year today as well. Devils would have had the 6th pick if the draft were today, where I had them taking Dylan Cozens. Obviously welcome to take a look if you're so inclined

While we're in no position to nitpick... i'd still point out that 7.5 aav for a kid who never scored over 20 goals is a risk. He could probably give more but you know...

Nylander's career high is 22 goals and he's coming off back to back 61 point seasons to close his ELC, obviously there is some risk to signing a young kid to that amount of money, but at the very least he seems like someone that can produce at a consistent 60 point pace.

Not that it really matters, I'd eat my shoe if we actually traded for Nylander, but going over the what if is still a fun exercise.

  14. Turcotte reminds me exactly of Zach Parise, he's the same size and plays the same hustle and forecheck style that Zach used to but he doesn't quite have the high end skill like some other guys in this draft do. If we were to target a center early in the draft, I would love to get my hands on Kirby Dach. Zegras and Newhook are arguable as top 5 talents as well, though I wouldn't currently advocate for them that high.

I’ll bet ownership wanted Hakstol canned and Hextall refused to do it, so they sacked him instead. The new GM will hire his own coach.

Would certainly make a lot more sense. Hopefully they grab someone like Mike Futa or Chuck Fletcher instead of Ron Francis, Francis always seemed like a good one in Carolina to me and I wouldn't want to see him with the capital the Flyers have.

  16. Honestly don't know why Hextall is the one whose head rolls in this scenario (especially before Hakstol), all things considered I think Hextall has done a really good job with the Flyers. Talk about a team that's going to be a murderer's row of players in a couple years, it's unfortunately the Flyers, I really like the players they have coming through the pipeline and the team they have now is pretty good too, albeit underachieving. The only thing I can blame on Hextall is not finding a solution in goal since he got the reigns, although it's always seemed like their plan is to have stopgaps until Carter Hart is ready to go.

I am gradually becoming more and more impressed with Coleman.  He's always hard on the puck, and he makes good decisions too.  He's going to continue to grow and mature and I was trying to figure out who I see him becoming most like, I don't think he's as skilled as a Zajac type, although their games are similar - I can see him becoming very similar to John Madden.  Tough, can score goals every now and then, and a solid penalty killer.

I said the same thing regarding Coleman to my brothers just about a week ago, there's a lot of parts to his game that are very Madden-esque and I think he could be a staple in our bottom 6 and be our top penalty killer for a very long time. It's also kind of crazy to think how long he's actually been in the organization, we drafted this guy almost 8 years ago and now he's looking to be a big part of our team the way he's playing. Love me some Blake Coleman.

  18. This team needs a fvcking wake up call. If you play like losers, you're gonna lose, you can't hand in an effort like that and get outworked by Detroit of all teams after you get utterly embarrassed just two nights prior. These guys aren't good enough to win if they're not busting their asses, and it seems like that's been lost over these past few weeks.

Also, we need someone other than the top line to step the fvck up. Our secondary scoring is completely absent.
