People who want Kyle Palmieri to see ice time:

    1. Kyle Palmieri

    2. Kyle Palmieri’s family & extended family

    that’s it, that’s the list.

    3. Opposing teams

guy has straight up forgotten how to hockey.

    Then give him the "C."

It would be extremely short lived. Just keep rolling with 3 A’s until Nico (or whoever) is ready.

Here are Ruff’s recent comments about what he looks for in his captain:

"In my eyes, he's a very important player for you on the ice. Plays the game the right way, is respected by all his teammates. Selfless type of leader. When the game's on the line, he's a guy that's you're going to trust and encourage all the guys around you to follow."

I think most of that fits Zajac, but it also sounds like Nico to me. Especially the last part.

Should be the first to not have his number retired though. I like Zajac but he just doesn't even come close to reaching that status for me. Hoping our team never reaches the point of retiring numbers for the hell of it like the Rangers and Islanders have been doing over the past few years.

Zajac should definitely be more of a ring of honor guy.

Gotta give Mike Brown credit, he called this one even when the Devils were having a fun 2017-18...he used to rip Hynes constantly.  At the time I thought he was being a know-it-all and unfair, but he was right about DBA.

    I kinda miss that guy.

Playing in his 15th season, needs four more games to reach 1000 for his career (also four goals to get to 200).  Where the hell did the time go?  I still remember when he was just a rookie, way more clearly than I'd like to...like it was only a few years ago.

Yeah will be sad for sure...curious to see where he winds up, as his career winds down.

How many guys have played in 1k games as a Devil? I know the obvious ones like Dano, Marty, and Elias, but is that it?

When Ty Smith “fell” to us I was probably as excited as I’ve been during any draft since the Parise one.

(the top picks were great but we knew we were getting whoever we wanted going into the night).

Not only does he look legit on the ice, but we are going to have a lot of young leaders on this team going forward. I can see Nico getting the C by next year, and Jack and Ty wearing the A’s at some point. Everything you hear about Mercer suggests he has a lot of leadership qualities as well.

The future is looking bright, folks. Finally.

I don't mind being wrong, don't think too many of us had Wedgewood posting a shutout and playing that well lol

    A pleasant surprise indeed.

Shame we can't get Dell in the net tonight but whatever.

You owe the Wedge an apology lol

Just finished this one on the DVR, and I’m over the moon about Jack and Ty right now.   I can’t believe they shut out a team as good as the Islanders without their 1C or starting goalie. I continue to be impressed with how Ruff has them playing.

    Well done boys.

I feel rather confident we'll be seeing Holtz in New Jersey in 2021-22, it's possible the organization could want him to marinate an extra season in Sweden but I think he would be ready to ride shotgun with one of our centers in that sesaon.

We could be in for another big youth push next season, because I'm also expecting both Bahl and Mercer to make big pushes to make the team out of camp in 2021-22.

Maybe Okhotyuk, too? Didn’t he have a pretty good camp?

The only issue with Ty is his size. He got pushed around a bit tonight, and twice was unable to hold the point because he has no reach. Aside from that, I’m really encouraged. I think he’s a way better version of Butcher and that’s why Will is still watching hockey instead of playing hockey.

Rafalski did alright for himself at that size. In a much more physical era, too. Ty actually reminds me a bit of him.

100%. His play without the puck and transition game are way better imo. He's also more poised, his skating is smoother and better overall. I see why you're getting caught up in your Butcher hype, but I think the difference is obvious in their overall play. Butcher was almost 23 when he made his NHL debut also, Smith is 20.

Yep. And Butcher can’t skate for sh!t. That’s usually hard to overcome for a hockey player lol

still I’d rather see him in there over Tennyson.

Saw some good things from the young guys. Smith had a good game. Hughes had some pflashes and nice plays, but you could see the Isles were all over him, they got the memo lol. The 4th line was also great. Still excited for the next one.

I think we have something in Ty. I shouldn’t get too overhyped just yet, as I thought the same thing after Butcher’s rookie season, but it’s not just compiling points like Butcher did (during Hall’s MVP year). Ty actually looks the part. He’s silky smooth, makes great first passes, has a knack for getting his shot through, and the game doesn’t seem too fast for him. Very impressed so far.
