What's with all the baseball references?

This has to be said - as a baseball hater...

Why are there so many references to some team called the Yankees or something...

I've read it on here, on the Lameger's forum, heard it about three times on TV tonight.

WHO CARES?

You know for damn sure that no baseball announcers even know anything about hockey - let alone reference something related to hockey.

True hockey and baseball are very different. However, the idea of being up 3-0 in a series is relevant in both sports. In 2004 the Yankees went ahead of the Red Sox 3-0. In Game 3 the Yankees destroyed the Red Sox, it appeared there was no way the Red Sox could possibly comeback, especially against the Yankees, a team they historically have a hard time beating in meaningful games. A lot of people, including me, got over confident and celebrated the series win too early. The Red Sox came back, won 4 straight games, improving every game, to the point of domination in Game 7. Although it is unlikely in hockey, baseball, or basketball to come back down 3-0, the fact is it happens, and nothing can be taken for granted.

The job is not finished, it is close, but not done yet. We can all celebrate once it is over, barring a complete collapse. Go Devils!

Actually being 3-0 in baseball is totally different than being up 3-0 in hockey. In baseball momentum is only as good as the next day's starter, Boston had Schilling. In hockey it's all about momentum(which we have tons) and goaltending(we're OK in that department).

Anyone Ranger fan that brings up the Yanks-Sox series as an argument as too why the Rangers can come back is clueless. The Rangers have a shot, rookie goaltender and ZERO confidence....this series is OVER.
