nmadd
The Mets are only going to get him if the Twins' GM values having 3 extra catchers as much as Omar seems to. I can't remember. How many can you start at the same time?
Devils731
Jason Stark had in one of his columns an unnamed AL source saying he thought the Mets are still in heavy contention for Santana. The reasons being that they feel Fernando Martinex has a higher ceiling than Jacob Ellsbury and that they would prefer to trade Santana out of the AL so they don't have to face him. LOTCB
I think it really has become a bad spot for the Twins to be in. Teams know that Santana will be a FA after 2008, and considering only a handful of teams can afford Santana, all of these teams (Boston, Yankees, Mets, etc) probably realize that, barring any major issues, SHOULD be at least in WC contention come the trade deadline. So why give up the farm now when if the Twins are out of it come Mid-July, you can play less to get Santana when you really need him most? Devils731
http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/13627791.html According to people with knowledge of the discussions, the Mets have offered top pitching prospect Deolis Guerra, along with center fielder Carlos Gomez and pitchers Kevin Mulvey and Phil Humber. The Twins like those players. They've told the Mets they'd have a done deal if New York would add prized outfield prospect Fernando Martinez.
