SueNJ97
I love how he says it wasn't ALL about the $$$, when it was ALL about the $$$. I wish he would just admit it. He ditched TWO organizations until he found one that would give him what he wanted, maximum $$$. Then all of a sudden it's not ALL about the $$$??? SueNJ97
He wouldn't even consider signing with the Canucks unless they offered him maximum $$$, which they could not afford. And he told Sather he wouldn't sign with them unless they would ante up as well. And when he signed with Philly, did he know JR had a concussion so bad he wouldn't be back??? Or that Zhamnov wouldn't come back??? Doubtful. He wanted the $$$. That's all he's EVER wanted, he's made it clear, and now he wants to pretend it's something else. Did it work out that he landed in something that's a nice situation for him??? Probably. But that doesn't change the fact that all he ever cared about was the maximum contract and he didn't care WHO gave it to him. If Sather would have given him the $$$ he would have been up there saying how WONDERFUL it was to be a RANGER.
Derek21
Some of his answers just don't impress me. I think the Rangers made the right choice. Best of luck to him in his career. Edited November 8, 2004 by Derek21
Joe Mac
I would have respected him more if he said something like: "Well hockey is a brutal sport and I don't know how long my career would be, so how can you blame me for trying to get the most money out there." Or something of that sort.

sw61776
I'd take Jeff Carter and Mike Richards over Umberger by about 50 miles. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, lucky for us, we can take all three.
MissionHockey
I don't expect Umberger to pan out, that year he took off was critical to his development, and his attitude isn't likely to get him far. Philly should have left him alone, he's not worth wasting time over.
