I guess it is time to start up another tennis thread, for 2nd Grand Slam of the year! I predict Nadal wins it for the men. The women's field is a toss up. I'll just say go Hantuchova, Golovin (win it at home!), and Sharapova!

Man. That's a lot of scores you posted fiesty. I just did two recaps a while ago just on Day 2. Nothing too crazy.

I wrote a men's preview but didn't get a chance to breakdown the women. I like Petrova to win it. I also said Sharapova will go out early. She almost lost yesterday.

Nadal over Federer in a 5-set classic on the men's side. I think Blake will lose pretty early on that surface and I have one surprise semifinalist.

Posting the scores wasn't too hard...I cut and pasted from ESPN. :P

Isn't clay Sharapova's weakest surfaces to play on? That with her injury should prove your analysis right and she will go out. I dream that Hantuchova or Golovin to win it but I don't see that happening. Hantuchova just can't win a singles grand slam and I am not sure how much Golovin's ankle is injured or if it is hgealed. It would be awesome for her to win it at home.

I hope it comes down to a Nadal-Federer five set classic.

I watched some Williams Bammer.. My husband said she's non-stop flashing underwear" and I said "that's because she's got balls up there..." and he luaghed and said "Yeah.. I bet, right?" and I said "NO! TENNIS balls you joker!" (Bammer had white shorts on so it looked like big old granny drawers)

I think female tennis players look so fit. Venus looked really cute in her yellow tennis dress...

Male tennis players have it tough because they all play like they have sand in their hoohahs. They can't be tough - they can only be poor sports. Men need teammates to be at their best -- or be in marathon things where they just have to shut up and get the job done. So Women's tennis I think is more fun to watch for the complete package. the peanut gallery will be closed until my next post

its a shame that andy dropped out today, i was kinda dissappointed, but he wasnt playing well anyway. I htink federer is going to win it for he men. If nadal wins it, thats 70 in a rwo on clay, he already has the record, i just dont see him gettin 70. also, i think federer will throw all he has at nadal, he doesnt really like to make losing to people a habit.

Nice post PK. Hahaha

Actually twisted, if Nadal wins it would be 60 straight on clay.

Big upset on the women's side today. Petrova out 2-6, 2-6. What a shock. She was playing so well going in too.

Roddick was never going to do much on this surface anyway. I'd be surprised if Blake went far. It's just not suited for their games.

I feel bad for Andy, hopefully he will recover and do well on the grass and hardcourts. Petrova was upset, I thought she would go far. The women's side is too complicated for me to predict, I bet we get 2 stars and 2 unknowns in the semi-finals. :P

Golovin lost :( Now I have to change my avatar.

On another note, did anyone see this article where Myskina says if she has a bad year, she will retire?

I saw the article fiesty. I guess I can see what she's saying. But still. Come on. She's two years removed from winning her one slam at Roland Garros. Maybe she's just trying to motivate herself.

Well, Nadal was pushed almost five hours by Paul Henri Mathieu today. Unreal match. It was only four sets long too. So imagine had it gone five.

Anyone catch some of it? Great stuff.

Blake was a set apiece with Monfils before it got suspended. I have a feeling that's going a grueling five. Not much separated them.

Women's Round of 16 is all set. Hingis, Clijsters, Sharapova, Mauresmo, Venus, Henin-Hardenne, Myskina all made it. Only two of the 16 seeds didn't get there.

Hingis plays Peer while Clijsters plays Hantuchova. Venus goes against Schnyder while Mauresmo plays Vaidisova. Sharapova plays Safina while Henin-Hardenne plays Myskina. Kuznetsova plays Schiavone while Dulko plays Groenefeld.

Go Martina!

I haven't been able to keep up lately due to Prom (which was awesome!) and work along with this history project outside of school. I can only imagine how insane that Nadal match must have been. WOW.

Hopefully Hantuchova beats Clijsters but I won't get my hopes up.

I am hoping to catch some of the action this week.

Well, for anyone that's followed it, Justine Henin-Hardenne repeated as champion by defeating Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4, 6-4. She became the first back-to-back women's winner since Steffi Graf in 1996. It's also her third Roland Garros title in four years.

Today at 9 on NBC is the most anticipated match in a while when Roger Federer takes on defending champion Rafael Nadal. On the line is Nadal's 59 match win streak on clay and his title. Also Federer puts his perfect 7-0 slam record at stake as well as a 27 match streak in the last four slams. He's won the last three.

This should be awesome. I expect an epic. I picked Nadal to beat Roger in five at the beginning of the tournament. So I will stick with that pick.

If Federer wins, he becomes only the sixth man to ever win all four grand slams.

Will history be made?
