I think to answer this question you cannot just vote with no explanation. I voted for a complete success, but I must clarify. I am a Devils fan through and through, so for them to win the Division, make the playoffs, and win a round (especially against the hated Rags) Yes it is a complete success to me. But the truth be told the obvious goal of any team is to win the championship, and the goal of that teams fans is the same. NOw that being said, I dont think there were too many around here that thought at the beginning of the season that the Devils were "true" cup contenders as they stood. Then with all the mid season turmoil and hovering around the 8th seed, agian nobody gave this team much of a chance to advance past the first round let alone win a cup. But here comes the tricky part. NOw that this team has obviously gelled and at the right time, they all of a sudden become a scary team that can compete with anybody in the East or NHL for that matter. So all that being said I still say we have had a very successful season, but every round from this point forward that we advance is an Added bonus that will be looked at as a great acomplishment for this team!! I will say that beating the Flyers will go along way to add to this teams marks for a successful season as well!

This thread is on the philly board in regards to the "spearing" incident by Gautier against Dumont last night. How classless is this?? I mean it was bad enough the boos in the stands, then some of these comments??? I mean even after someone posts about the guy having abdominal surgery earlier this season, and he was in pain, they still go on about some pretty crude things. Man I hope we get them and kick their A**ES from Philly to the Meadowlands and back again!!!!! I am so sick of their crap!! But this is just ridiculous to cal a guy a girl and everything else when he obviously was in some pain!!!!I am quite sure if it was a Sabre that did that to Forsberg, or Gagne they would be calling for the Sabre to be suspended for the rest of the post season and into next season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Liz come on now you sound like a Rags fan "well we outplayed the Devils 5 on 5) they only won because of the penalties" Crasher I cannot wait to hear that goof Steve Somers tonight. Since before the first game (when he was talking about how the Devils fans arriving at the Meadowlands with huge smiles and cheering were going to be leaving dejected) till Tuesday night when I heard him talking about how the rangers begin the comeback tomorrow night on Home Ice!!!! Tonight I am sure he will be full of excuses. I hope a multitude of Devils fans call him so he can eat some CROW!!!!!!!!!

Bottom line is IF (it aint quite over yet) we win this series we will most likely play Buffalo or Philly, and I think that also bodes well for NJ. Not having to face an Ottawa till the conference finals will be good, keeps the team on a roll, and anything can happen, especially the way Marty is playing right now.

Very good point empty, that is what I am seeing as well, again when the Devils outhustle the rags, the rags are forced to take a penalty. that in my opinion in no way means the Devils are being outplayed!!

True blue, the Rags while they buzzed around after they were down 3 - 0 didnt necassarily outplay the Devs. They becamse desperate, and looked good for a few stretches. And again every opp the Devs had to break out was met with some obstruction penalty or hooking or whatever, so how is that being outplayed 5 - 5 ?? Again not that it matters, because Rags fans can beleive what they want, but the fact remains down 2 - 0 their season rides on tonight. If they do lose they can cry tomorrow about outplaying the Devs all they want to!!! Tonight I am expecting a classic shut down the other team on the road no mistakes dump it in kind of game. A few yrs ago they played that kind of game in the post season in Toronto, and did to perfection. ONe of these the opposition gets like 15 - 18 shots on net the whole game. Maybe I am wrong but I am expecting a solid performance tonight out of the defense!!

Oh and as far as the media goes yes they blew this series up and built it up and now there is nothing (at least to this point) to talk about. They kept talking about how the Devils never beat the rags etc etc. Now they are looking for reasons to try to give the Rags a chance!!

Absolutely, but trtiumph 5 - 5 you think the Rags outplayed the Devils?? Why is that?? Because of a few shifts they spent in the Devs zone?? I watched the game too, after the Devils were up 3 - 0 I saw some desperation on the Rags part and they had some good shifts, but come on you dont get beat 10 -2 in 2 games and get outplayed in any way that is the bottom line. Again I go back to the Devils speed is forcing the Rags to take penalties, if they dont take the penalties they get beat 5 - 5 so they hook the Devs down or hold or whatever. It all comes down to the depth and speed of the Devs forwards vs the slower Rags defense just like in the Philly - Sabres series!! Tell me something have you watched any of that series?? the Sabres getting tons and tons of Power plays, do you think the flyers are outplaying the Sabres 5 - 5?? Same thing they make a few noises in the Sabres zone then it is off to the races the other way!! The rags can complain about penalties and dives all they want but they are being beaten every which way to this point at least!!

This post sort of goes along with the one about Renneys assanine comments. I am totally sick and tired of hearing how the Rangers are outplaying the Devils 5 on 5 and if it werent for the penalties wah wah wah . You know it is quite simple. The Rangers have been outscored 10 - 2 in 2 games?????? Come on I dont care if every Devil goal was a Power play goal, the point is maybe just maybe the Devils are outworking out hustling , and out playing the Rags, and the rags are being forced to commit the hooks and holds to slow down the Devils speed at forward. It is quite clear the Rags are slow defensively (like a team from Philly we all know) and are being exploited by the speed of the Devils. These 2 series right now mirror each other. The fact is the Devils have superior depth at forward better more mobile defense and the best goaltender in the WORLD. And I am hearing these Rag fans and guys like that joke on the FAN Steve Somers trying to talk about how they are outplaying the Devils?? What series are they watching?? Yeah the rags may spend a shift or two in the Devils end get a little buzz going etc, but as soon as the Devils speed breaks out they have to haul a Devil down to slow them up. So yeah they sure are out playing the Devils Keep thinking that way and you Rag fans will be watching your team on the golf course soon enough!!!

MAnta, at the end of Hitch's press conference he also told Lindy to F off it was on Concast it was a riot. Really guys I live in Flyer Country what do you expect?? Who do you expect them to blame?? It is never their team or Clarke (well occasionally Clarke gets a little bit) but it is always something else eg. the hot goalie or the Refs or the NHL conspiracy against them.

Oh beleive me it is ridiculous over there. They whine and whine. It isnt like the whole regular season was called differently. The thing that cracks me up is they NEVER LOSE A GAME BECAUSE THEY WERE BEATEN BY A BETTER TEAM!!! It is always the refs or a hot goalie. The bottom line is if youare being outplayed like they were through the first 2 periods they were lucky to ever get into Overtime!! East Ottawa in 6 Montreal in 7 Buffalo in 6 (If Forsberg is close to 100% this outcome could change) West Detroit in 5 Dallas in 7 Nashville in 6 Calgary in 6 Finally This series has all the makings of an easy one for the Devils 2 teams going in total opposite directions. I really hope the Devils do not look at it that way and come out like they did in the first and second period against Montreal. My point is this the Devils are superior, and should win in 5. JUst want to not give the Rangers even a breath of life in this series!!!!!

Absolutely Devils731 see when the Devils get beat its "see the other team smoked them" but when the Devils not only win but FLAT OUT DOMINATE the last 3 games its the Flyers didnt play well. See Bruins himself says the Devils got it together and Brodeur is playing dominant right now, so yes he wasnt playing well early in the season maybe that is why the Flyers won those games. See he dropped his goals against from well over 3.0 to under 2.5 I would say he is playing pretty well right now. ANd he says if both teams were at their peak the Flyers would win out. You cannot say that becaue of 1 thing. Yes Forsberg is better than any single forward the Devils have, but the Devils depth over 4 lines may be equal if not better. The bottom line is take Esche or Nitty at their absolute absolute finest and I will take Marty at his best 6 days a week and twice on Sunday!!! That is where playoffs are won my friend!!

Bruins Nobody said the flyers werent a good team to say that would just be ridiculous. " Why is it that nobody can say they just got whooped?? Why is it the Flyers played a crap game?? Maybe just maybe the Devils players had something to do with the Flyers looking like crap?? I mean come on was it a crap game when they lost on Thursday night 4-1? Or was it a crap game when they lost 4-1 a week and a half ago?? Just say it the Flyers were totally outplayed the last 3 times they played the Devils!! and maybe because the Devils are not that bad of a team????

Bottom line is pretty simple. Yes the Devils are the least penalized team in the league, and yes they are the most disciplined. As others have stated, why in Gods name would the league who is trying to get scoring up and draw people let the Devils and only the Devils get away with clutching and grabbing?? It is a ridiculous theory, and to use reputation is bad too. Come on these Devils are not the Devils of a few yrs ago. The smaller quicker talented forwards are just giving slower bigger D men fits it is plain and simple. Are the Devils the best team in the league?? NO, but with the talent they have and the Goaltender there is no reason this team cannot make a legitimate run, (if they dont get too cocky, and keep playing their style) Which I am sure Lou will keep reminding them of!!. Again for Cryers fans, please stop with the excuses your team is talented no doubt, and with Forsberg on the Ice they are a different team. But really the last 3 games 13-3??? Would Forsberg have miraculously turned that situation around? WOuld he have played Defense along side of Hatcher or Dejardinis??? Come on The Flyers defense is slow and their goaltending is suspect at times that is why they lost these games NOt Clutching and Grabbing Not because no Forsberg and not because the league has a conspiray against the Flyers and for the Devils!!!!

7 while I agree Forsberg is an immense talent, the fact is yes they beat the Rangers with him yesterday, but the Rangers have been sliding the last week or so, and really if Peter would have played or not the Devils forecheck was so good in the 2 games against the Cryers it wouldnt have made a difference. The Cryers defense is SLOW and they cannot match the speed of our forwards right now. Yes Forsberg is a super player, but he would not have given the Flyers the win today or THursday. IN my opinion anyway.

It is amazing to me, but whenever the Devils beat the Flyers all of a sudden the clutching , grabbing, trapping, Devils are back. I love the excuses. really it has nothing to do with the Devils speedy forwards outworking their tired old defense. Or their Goalie or Goalies who dont make the huge saves when necessary. It is all about the trap. I mean really guys give it a break. Why is it that the Flyers are getting called for holding the stick, or interference and the Devils arent?????? Maybe just maybe its because the Cryers fans are looking for excuses as to why their team was beaten not 1 time, not 2 times but 3 times during this 10 game streak and by a combined margin of like 13 - 3???? Yeah its all because of the obstuction LOL. Really guys keep thinking that way. I am sure the Sens or the HUrricanes or the Sabres boards are saying the same thing or even the Rangers since we beat all of the top seeds in the East during this stretch!!!

I am wondering how people feel heading into the post season (now that we are definately in). I know I am an optomist alot of the time, but in my opinion, if Marty continues to play at the level he is playing at and we keep getting the production out of the new line combos, I feel we can make a deep run in the playoffs. To be honest every team in the East has question marks, and the Devils are no exception. That being said out goaltending is tops in the East, and really in the league. Goaltending and defense in the playoffs is what counts. So I guess what I am saying with the playoffs around the corner, there are no teams in the East that I would "be afraid" to play at this point. Second are we hoping to move up and play maybe Buffalo, or should we stay where we are at and hopefully draw the Rags, or the Cryers??
