Because someone needs to win the faceoff. Meier and Toffs means no center. I guess you can just give the other team the puck and hope they get it back quick, but in today's NHL I would argue that is always more risky. Centers become even more important the more you make more space on the ice. In 4v4 and 3v3 centers are crazy important.

Can we talk about McLeod in the top 6? He doesn't know what to really do in the offensive zone so he just cuts to the net and then plants himself in front. I don't think he cratered the line offensively, but we'll take a look at the numbers too. I think those possession numbers would show Bratt really driving the play on that line, but maybe I'm wrong. He kind of gave the Wild nightmares in front of the net and he got that goal tonight because he did that.

I thought Vanecek wasn't spectacular and I wish he found that slow moving 3rd one that bounced off his stick down low. He'll be fine. I agree with CR76 in the sense that Vanny will probably give us more of this as the season goes on but post a respectable .910 again. Average to above average when he gets hot. He gets hot at the right time and it could happen. If he could cut down on the weak 5-hole goals that he's tending to allow, he'd be a .920+ goalie.

Sorry man, on a discussion forum, I think most try prod others for their opinions on things. Nobody is saying everyone has to be an Armchair GM. Have you considered that they might be genuinely interested in your opinion? People are only being interested in what your opinion on a solution would be. Be grateful for that. Yes, I will admit to drinking the Fitz kool-aid.

I think the defense can improve. EDIT: Let me add to that. They limited MIN to 25 SOG tonight and we nearly put up 40. I think the defense can be even better. Vanecek was winning so much las year because he only had to stop 18-25 shots a night really.

4 points for Jesper Bratt tonight. Such a weapon out there.

Dougie is easily on pace for 15+ goals again this year.

Looked a little lost and was definitely late to get to the TWO guys in front of the net. Get it together man. Marino looked better on that latest sequence he was out there. Marino and LHughes are looking good and it looks like Bahl is helping Smith.

Bratt found Palat for a great cross-crease pass earlier in that period that Pally unfortunately shot right into Gustavsson's chest, but it was still a good chance. Chances are coming and for some reason Palat has great chem with McLeod.

I don't know if his speed is shot, but on that play the way he was hunted down and broken up from behind our own net there. It might be time to move on. Even from 7th defenseman role. Penalties are one thing, if you can't skate anymore, I don't think Lindy is gonna come running to your defense. We can't have the top half of the defense to start to play better and upping their game for the bottom half to sh!t the bed.

I'm not exactly for more gear or for skaters to start wearing goalie neck protectors, but turtlenecks that cover the neck area and are cut resistant could work nicely as protection. Sounds innovative.

Not all teams can benefit from having a PP that is clicking at a 41% rate like NJD right now. That is like EDM last year good. So hot.
